Natural Wovens ANALYSIS NATURAL AUTHENTICITY IN WOVEN INTERIORS TEXTILES CONTINUES TO EVOLVE WITH RUSTIC, HANDCRAFTED QUALITIES IN ELEMENTAL MATERIALS SUCH AS JUTE, BURLAP, COIR, RAFFIA AND RATTAN IN ROUGH YET REFINED CONSTRUCTIONS. CONTEMPORARY DESIGN JOINS FORCES WITH ARTISAN SKILLS TO CELEBRATE MATERIALS IN THEIR RAW STATE WITH COARSE TEXTURE AND PURIST APPROACH TO TECHNIQUE.
Simple plain and basketweaves with pleasing imperfections are introduced into soft furnishings, rugs and general home textiles for a decidedly aesthetic that nods to sustainable design Compact and lattice silhouettes bridge the gap in furniture design between indoor and outdoor spaces, using innovative and intricate construction techniques braiding and caning Hessian textures infiltrate the commercial market with vintage coffee sacks reimagined as furniture and decorative accessories. Leno weave structures are finely woven to achieve a mesh surface with a granular feel Loose construction permits the use of natural textiles for light filtering applications including blinds, canopies and wall panels. External-use materials including bamboo and rattan are found in elaborate architectural design and adopted for interior spaces with refined constructions
Natural Wovens TABLEWARE An organic sensibility is brought to everyday products, such as tribal-inspired woven bowls and handcrafted mugs with a woven rattan detail. Commercial jute coasters and linen cloth make natural wovens an accessible feature in the kitchen. Terrain offers a multipurpose sheet of natural burlap for a recycled alternative to the traditional tablecloth.

glitter sprinkles. The inclusion of a metallic yarn into the weave or of speckled paint brings sparkle to everyday home linens, and can also look bold with thick silver thread creating pattern in contrast with coarse fibres and materials. Film transfer is either worked in light yet eye-catching traces or as clear cutout pattern, providing a fresh update to velvet cushions.

MODERN Black and white takes on a highly graphic direction, applied in clean monochrome for MONOCHROME linear and pure interpretations of folk motifs where yhe neat outline is all there is left PRINT & PATTERN
of the pattern. This minimal take updates classic designs such as chevron, applied in fine and simplified repeats, as well as basket weave, presented in linear small-scale bands on bedding or large scale for modern and Nordic-inspired throws.
Natural Wovens FLOORS An assortment of construction techniques are showcased in rugs, including braided jute composed into round shapes, twill flax fibre and ribbon strands interlocked into plain weave structures. Soojin Kang challenges traditionals weaving techniques by repurposing objects within the framework of the warp to create original patterns, forms and textures.
Natural Wovens HOME TEXTILES Heavyweight organic hemp and nettle linen with crisp structure and granular texture bring a rustic appeal to interior fabrics. Manipulated basketweave structures in macro scales make for a contemporary alternative to coir and flax rugs. Grainy leno weaves showcased in tablecloths provide an artistic, rustic feel with irregular gauze effect.

Natural Wovens PILLOWS & THROWS Natural aquatic hyacinth-fibre pillows and Pehuen llama blankets, loosely woven with a tasselled edge, provide a rustic approach to handwoven soft furnishings. Neutral tones reflect a predilection for natural surfaces that remain undyed and untreated. A pleasingly coarse linen handle adds to the domestic artisan feel.

Colors 2017
Maison & Objet - Colour, Material & Finish
TONAL GREY Tonal greys remain prominent across the show, continuing from the last edition and set to remain COLOUR
a driving direction both for product and styling. Gradated designs are key, especially on textiles. Fratelli Graziano’s pillow and Braxton’s decorative cushion feature stitches or fabric in contrasting scales and hues for a tonal look with added tactility.

CRUMPLED & GATHERED DESIGN DIRECTION
Crumpled, gathered and crinkled finishes bring tactility to textiles, expanding on the textural weaves direction from last season. Doubled gauze is a prominent material choice across exhibitors, treated either in unrefined and natural-looking design for throws and bathroom linens, or blistered and gathered jacquard patterns for a more ornate take

FADED INDIGO COLOUR
Last season’s powder blue takes one a faded, desaturated indigo tint across textiles, ceramic, glass and resin. Stonewashed treatments on cotton and velvet make the faded effect more apparent, while in the new Trussardi Home Linen collection by Mirabello Carrara these tones are instead applied to highly refined fibres and subtle leather piping on cushions.
Lace Effects WALLS & FLOORS Lace remains a great decorative feature for walls, both as printed or embossed wallpaper, or all-over and stencilled band lace patterns and wall decals for placements. Doily motifs dominate rug and carpet designs in neutral and more vibrant natural tones. An abstract lace direction for tiles with subtle relief play rovides added textural appeal.
Lace Effects PERFORATED PANELS Lace-inspired perforated panels provide a decorative and light-flowing solution to room dividers. Highly intricate laser-cut panels and more experimental crocheted metal wire provide a functional jet artistic injection to contemporary interior spaces including homes, cafes and hotels in the form of doors, staircases and walls.
LACE EFFECTS TABLETOP Lace surface are seen in diverse tabletop products revealing versatile applications. Printed lace patterns un ceramic and glassware produce striking results whereas engraving makes for subtle tonal interpretations. Table linens and placemats receive a fresh update with laser-cut metal and vinyl for added intricacy and relinement.
Pattern Evolution MACRO STRIPE Stripes evolve to go micro with pinhead lines creating optical surface pattern and 3D ripples across vases, mugs, cushion and poufs. Stripes are finely sliced into ceramics and glass, creating dense ribbed patterns - such as vases by poshe at John Lewis and CB2.
