CULTURAL ARTS OFFICE The City of Carlsbad’s historic support of arts and culture as a core value led to the establishment of its Cultural Arts Office in 1986 as part of the city’s investment in the visual and performing arts. Its programs include a robust series of concerts, exhibitions, special events, arts education opportunities and public art installations. The Cultural Arts Office strives to enhance the vitality of the city and the quality of life for all residents by supporting an environment where arts and cultural organizations thrive, and people of all ages enjoy opportunities for creative expression and lifelong learning.
MESSAGE FROM THE CULTURAL ARTS MANAGER The fall arts season coincides with October as National Arts & Humanities Month (NAHM), a coast-to-coast collective recognition of the importance of culture in America. NAHM was launched by Americans for the Arts and national arts partners as a month-long celebration with the goals of:
•
FOCUSING on the arts at local, state and national levels;
•
ENCOURAGING individuals and organizations to participate in the arts;
•
ALLOWING governments and businesses to show their support of the arts; and
•
RAISING public awareness about the role the arts and humanities play in our communities and lives.
With the acceptance of the Arts & Culture Master Plan last year, the City of Carlsbad has affirmed its support for the arts as an integral part of daily life and a key component to enhancing the quality of life for all residents. This ten-year plan supports a new vision and is embodied in specific initiatives and programs including a guest artist residency that brings Ken Waldman, Alaska’s fiddler poet, to Carlsbad for a week this October. Most importantly, this arts programming is designed to celebrate local talent and showcase a notable array of gifted performers, musicians and artists from the region and across the nation. Please join us to experience the arts – free, live and together! Curtain up!
Richard Schultz, MFA City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts Manager

Any “saved seats” will need to be released five minutes to curtain time. So, please plan to arrive early.
