International Film Fridays Enjoy the best of world-wide cinema two Fridays each month with selections that have been recognized by critics as representing some of the finest cinema from across the globe. Films are screened with English subtitles at 4 and 7 p.m. at the Schulman Auditorium.

Wednesday Film Series The Carlsbad Film Series provides cinema fans with movies representing the best and the brightest from Hollywood and worldwide. These films are screened the last three Wednesdays each month at 6 p.m. at the Schulman Auditorium.


JANUARY Celebrating the work of Oscar-winning actor and director, Clint Eastwood. Minari South Korea, Drama, Family (2020, PG-13, 1 h 55m) Friday, Jan. 7, 4 & 7 p.m. A Korean American family moves to an Arkansas farm in search of its own American dream. Amidst the challenges of this new life in the strange and rugged Ozarks, they discover the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home. Yuh-Jung Youn, who plays the grandmother, became the first Korean actor to win an Academy Award, winning best supporting actress. Trouble with the Curve Drama, Sport (2012, PG-13, 1h 51m) Wednesday, Jan. 12, 6 p.m. A daughter tries to remedy her dysfunctional relationship with her ailing father, a decorated baseball scout, by helping him in a recruiting trip which could be his last. The Mule Crime, Drama (2018, R, 1h 56m) Wednesday, Jan. 19, 6 p.m. A ninety-year-old horticulturist and Korean War veteran turns drug mule for a Mexican cartel.


Martin Eden Italy, Period Drama, Romance (2019, PG, 2h 9m) Friday, Jan. 21, 4 & 7 p.m. Based on the 1909 novel by Jack London, Martin Eden struggles to rise above his destitute, proletarian circumstances through an intense and passionate pursuit of self-education, hoping to achieve a place among the literary elite. Cry Macho Thriller, Western (2021, PG-13, 1h 44m) Wednesday, Jan. 26, 6 p.m. A one-time rodeo star takes a job to bring his exemployer’s son home. Along the way he finds redemption through the lessons he teaches the boy.


FEBRUARY Enjoy history being brought to life with storytelling with these bio pics. The Mole Agent Chile, Documentary, Comedy (2020, NR, 1h 24m) Friday, Feb. 4, 4 & 7 p.m. When 83-year-old Chilean Sergio is sent as an undercover spy to a retirement home to investigate suspected neglect, he learns a deeper lesson on human connection. Adventures of a Mathematician Biography, Drama (2020, TV-MA, 1h 42m) Wednesday, Feb. 9, 6 p.m. The warmhearted story of Polish immigrant and mathematician Stan Ulam, who deals with the difficult losses of family and friends all while helping to create the hydrogen bomb and the first computer. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood Biography, Drama (2019, PG, 1h 49m) Wednesday, Feb. 16, 6 p.m. Based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod.


200 Meters Jordan, Adventure, Drama (2020, NR, 1h 36m) Friday, Feb. 18, 4 & 7 p.m. A Palestinian father trapped on the other side of the separation wall is trying to reach the hospital for his son, in Ameen Nayfeh’s directorial feature debut. The film debuted in Venice Days in 2020 where it won the People’s Choice award. Official submission of Jordan for the ‘Best International Feature Film’ category of the 93rd Academy Awards. Respect Biography, Drama (2021, PG-13, 2h 25m) Wednesday, Feb. 23, 6 p.m. The remarkable true story of the music icon’s journey to find her voice and become the Queen of Soul.

The son flees with the village towards Dieppe at the English Channel, as does the separated dad, joined by a Scottish officer. No Time to Die Action, Adventure (2021, PG-13, 2h 43m) Wednesday, Mar. 9, 6 p.m. James Bond has left active service. His peace is short-lived when an old friend from the CIA turns up asking for help. Emma Comedy, Romance (2020, PG, 2h 4m) Wednesday, Mar. 16, 6 p.m. In 1800s England, a well-meaning but selfish young woman meddles in the love lives of her friends. Rafiki Kenya, Drama, Romance (2018, NR, 1h 23m) Friday, Mar. 18, 4 & 7 p.m. “Good Kenyan girls become good Kenyan wives,” but Kena and Ziki long for something more. When love blossoms between them, the two girls will be forced to choose between happiness and safety. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard Action, Comedy (2021, R, 1h 40m) Wednesday, April 13, 6 p.m. The bodyguard Michael Bryce continues his friendship with assassin Darius Kincaid as they try to save Darius’ wife Sonia. The Apparition France, Drama (2018, R, 2h 24m) Friday, April 15, 4 & 7 p.m. A journalist is sent by the Vatican to investigate a young girl claiming to be visited by the Virgin Mary. Stillwater Crime, Drama (2021, R, 2h 19m) Wednesday, April 20, 6 p.m. A father travels from Oklahoma to France to help his estranged daughter, who is in prison for a murder she claims she didn’t commit. Knives Out Comedy, Crime (2019, PG-13, 2h 10m) Wednesday, April 27, 6 p.m. A detective investigates the death of a patriarch of an eccentric, combative family.

The Way I See It Documentary (2020, PG-13, 1h 40m) Wednesday, May 18, 6 p.m. Former Chief Official White House Photographer Pete Souza’s journey as a person with top secret clearance and total access to the President. Wife of a Spy Japan, Thriller (2020, NR, 1h 55m) Friday, May 20, 4 & 7 p.m. In 1940, a Japanese merchant leaves his wife behind in order to travel to Manchuria, where he witnesses an act of barbarism. His subsequent actions cause misunderstanding, jealousy and legal problems for his wife. Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice Documentary, Biography (2019, PG-13, 1h 35m) Wednesday, May 25, 6 p.m. With one of the most memorably stunning voices that has ever hit the airwaves, Linda Ronstadt burst onto the 1960s folk rock music scene in her early twenties.
