Grandfriends Kindness Project Thursday, Dec. 5, 3—4:30 p.m., DN Join Kids for Peace the first Thursday of each month for an intergenerational play date! Youth and seniors will partner up to complete fun acts of kindness like planting a garden, creating a gratitude jar and making treats for local firefighters. Thanks to the generosity of the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, instruction and all supplies will be provided free of charge. You only need to bring your kind heart. All youth and seniors are welcome! Children under eight years-old should be accompanied by an adult.

Now that the hustle and bustle of the holiday season has officially arrived, let's take a moment and come together with Kids for Peace to remember 'tis better to give than receive. Youth and adults will participate in a food drive, write notes of compassion for the homeless, and sing songs of joy and peace. We hope you can join us for this beautifully meaningful and timely event.

Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia

Tuesday, Dec. 10, 10—11:30 a.m., #116 Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging. Join us to learn about the impact of Alzheimer's; the difference between Alzheimer's and dementia; stages and risk factors; current research and treatments available for some symptoms; and Alzheimer's Association resources. This program will help you learn: •Warning signs and symptoms •Causes and risk factors •Diagnosis and treatment •Stages of Alzheimer’s disease •Ways the Alzheimer’s Association can help

Free Hearing Screenings & CTAP Phone Distribution Event Wednesday, Dec. 11, 9 a.m.—12 noon, Lobby Audiologist, Dr. Joyce Crawford with Sonus Hearing Care Professionals, will provide free hearing screenings in conjunction with California Telephone Access Program (CTAP). This program provides specialized telephone equipment and services to residents who have an active phone line but have difficulty hearing. All hearing-impaired, eligible residents from this event will be provided with a free amplified phone on-site. Age and income level are not considered. Reservations are required. Call 760-602-4650 to reserve an appointment.

Holiday Hula Recital

Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1—2 p.m., AUD Come celebrate the holiday season with the warmth of aloha, as the students of Halau Hula 'o Pualani present their 18th annual ho'ike (recital). Wear a lei, bring your Aloha spirit and enjoy the story-telling dances of Hawai'i, performed in beautiful costumes. Doors open at 12:40 p.m. Come early as seating is limited for this free performance.

Let’s Go for a Ride: How to use Uber, Lyft and Turo

Thursday, Dec. 12, 10—11:30 a.m., #111 Learn about easy and affordable alternatives for getting around, using your smartphone or computer. Companies like Uber, Lyft and Turo are changing the way we order rides or rent cars. Different types of vehicles are available, including ones that can handle wheelchairs or car seats. We will explore how to use apps (access) for these services in a hands-on, free session. Bring your own smartphone and all your questions for this informational meeting.
