Civics and Big History -
Inspired by the unprecedented tenor of the current social climate,
this year we decided that it is unavoidable in its cultural relevance and thus our responsibility to take a more explicit, hands-on approach in educating Carlthorp students about what it means to be a citizen of this country. Our goal is to provide an objective framework that will focus on providing our students with a general, novitiate understanding of the basic tenets, processes, and behaviors associated with the political character of government. We will be using icivics.com as our primary source for lessons and other materials. To launch, we will be focusing on the voting process so as to align with this year’s presidential election. Civics will last for the duration of the ďŹ rst trimester.
- During the second and third trimester, we will be transitioning from civics to Big History. Big History is a program that was launched at Carlthorp by Mr. Williamson in 2017. In a very short span of time, the program has seen great success. For those unaware, Big History takes an interdisciplinary approach to to examine history starting from the premise of the Big Bang.
