My work is rooted in a deep fascination with what it is to be human. I am interested in exploring the boundaries of inhibition and self control. I am INTRIGUED by the prospect of ascertaining an alternative state of mind by means of indulging the self in the present moment. This follows a deep questioning of where we draw the line in defining physicality. When working with installation there is often a questionable invitation to interact. It is at this point where the viewer assumes responsibility for their own involvement. The work is not about participation, but the ability to question inherent and conditioned restraints. My interests lie in what CREATES THE DESIRE TO SHIFT AWARENESS THROUGH ACTIVITY, and at what level the human needs to operate in order to let go. It is within these moments that I believe a human has the ability to engage in an almost meditative act, aligning physical momentum with a part of their inner self. THE WORK ITSELF OFTEN ACTS AS A TOOL USED TO QUESTION LEVELS OF CONDITIONING AND SELF IMPOSED RESTRAINT THROUGH PLAY. THIS IS PARTICULARLY POIGNANT WHEN AN AUDIENCE MEMBER OPTS OUT OF THE INVITATION TO ACT AND IS EQUALLY AS RELEVANT TO THE CORE OF THE IDEAS. Through the work I seek to develop a language that approaches a viewer independently, questioning the truth of their inner relationship with themselves and the resulting outward relationship with the immediate environment. The work often takes inspiration from moments of emotional and physical instability, this juxtaposed with a sense of strength and recovery sparks a play between vulnerability and possibility. The vulnerability in materiality is of great importance, whilst the work often paradoxically manifests in kinetic form, perpetuating the transient nature of these temporary structures.

Prismatical 2010

Sculptural light installation [light, prism, projection] Prism [A medium that misrepresents whatever is seen through it. This kinetic light installation moves through several different stages and occasionally the light comes together to create 3D holographic shapes within the space.



The Explorers 2011

Kinetic installation

[Adapted motors, plastic, balloons, fishing cable, helium]

Exploring aspects of vulnerability and mania as the direct result of lack of direction and control. The explorers were released as single entities. Travelling at humble speed around the gallery interacting with the other works and changing direction as and when they hit a solid surface. Taking on a ‘journey’ through the exhibition alongside the viewers the orbs constantly altered the dynamic of the space. Without any sense of destination they became erratic, unpredictable and liberated.

Synapse 2011

Sculptural light installation [glow wire, fishing cable]

Chemical synapses allow neurons to form circuits within the central nervous system. They are crucial to the biological computations that underlie perception and thought. They allow the nervous system to connect to and control other systems of the body. This installation attempted to explore the space in between thoughts, where subconscious connects with awareness. Aside from meditation we as humans have no physical experience of this space in our reality. This immersive installation provided a representation of what this space may look/feel like.

Oscillate 2011

'Whenever you are present, you become transparent to some extent to the light, the pure consciousness that emanates from the source of all things. You realise that the light is not separate from who you are but constitutes your very essence' [Eckhart Tolle] Oscillate attempts to explore the idea of form and the possibilities beyond that of human comprehension and expanding consciousness. The sculptural installation constitutes of a single strand of light spinning at high speed, deceiving the eye into seeing a form which is not physically 'real'.

Live installation Copenhagen Place, London USING THE SCISSORS CUT THE LINE, FREE THE BALLOON AND LIBERATE YOUR FISH. Please make a responsible choice to implicate yourself in the deconstruction and re homing of a part of this installation. If you decide to participate please leave your post code as this will be used to create a map which will make up a diagram documenting the distribution of the surviving elements of the work. Please help yourself to a takeaway bag to transport your fish home. This includes care instructions and small supply of food. [no fish were harmed during this installation]

Head Shadow 2012

Collaborative sound installation

Brixton Splash Festival, London Head Shadow, a collaborative work by sound artist Meerkuts and installation artist Carly Jayne looks to explore the experience of modernistic meditation and lucid dreaming. Inspired by ancient methods of ritualistic practices that bring about a higher level of spiritual consciousness, this work looks to explore the contrast between these moments of inward silence and the reality of the noise of the modern world. The work consists of two conflicting sound scapes that operate simultaneously. Head and Shadow.

Sculptural installation [bio-resin] In collaboration with Millimetre, Ushida Findlay architects and Visitor Studio. Commissioned by the RIBA, featured in the Guardian.



Magic + Mafia commissions Design studio run by Carly Jayne + Gem Barton.


Scan.it - Tate Britain 2012

Workshop installation. Commissioned for the Tiny Tate event at Tate Britain. This work looked at scanning as an alternative to digital photography. Throughout the event using different teqniques and light conditions the visitors created work that was then printed to form the walls of the structure that housed the equipment.



The BOG project 2012

A series of sculptural installations In collaboration with Gem Barton [designer and co-founder of Magic + Mafia]. Exhibited in four of Brighton's established venues as part of the Brighton Festival and Fringe 2012.
