Dance of Gratitude raises funds in appreciation

By Mary Moffat marymoffat@sasktel.net Toes were tapping to the tunes of the Kenosee Lake Kitchen Party violins at the Kenosee Rec Hall on Thursday April 11, while Cheryl Dubois watched from her hospital bed in Regina through the modern technology of Facetime.

Approximately 150 people came out to help the Dubois/West families raise funds for the Kipling Emergency Response Team and STARS. In an emotional visit, Cheryl Dubois reiterated her doctors opinions that “it was a miracle she survived” the terrible accident that claimed the life of Marie Krauss, and injured herself and her daughter Zoe. If I can paraphrase the speech made by Michele Amy, “It is the job of the living to continue living and to celebrate life. While we acknowledge the loss of Marie and the pain it brings to her family, friends and our community when we lose some like that, we can do nothing but offer support and love. We can however celebrate the miracle that saved Cheryl and Zoe with gratitude.”

Tami Dovell, President of the Kenosee Lions Club was happy to help Michele Amy and Ben Dubois with the evening, dubbed Dance of Gratitude.

Club 19 provided beef on a bun and salads while volunteers brought desserts for all who attended.

Juno award winning Karrnnel, led Donna Turk, Michele Amy, Pierre Tinant, Leanne Poirier and Chris Byrne, (to name a few) in some rousing tunes, to the delight of dancers, young and young at heart. Zoe and her father Ben took the stage where Zoe sang, “Dream a Little Dream for Me”, followed by a song she wrote for her mother.

Dovell said that within a week of announcing the plans for the fundraiser, her garage was filled with donations for the silent auction. The total amount raised has yet to be determined, so watch the paper for that announcement.

Redvers hosts Ag Ex

With 75 exhibitors taking part in the Redvers Ag Ex Trade Show on April 11, there was plenty to see and do. Precision agriculture displays, environmental information and innovative crop technology rubbed elbows with home & leisure and lifestyle booths, all located at the Redvers Recreation Centre.

Children of all ages enjoyed the petting zoo, while the Ag in the Classroom and a demonstration by the Redvers Fire Department on how to escape if trapped in a grain bin added extra education value.

Leah Olson, CEO of Dot Technology Corp., spoke on the Future of Autonomous Farming, followed by the Honourable David Marit, Minister of Agriculture.

Redvers Day Care served the noon lunch and the Air Cadets were busy helping exhibitors unload in the morning, delivering lunch at noon and assisting with loading up at the end of the day.

Moose Mountain Lodge recognizes volunteers

To All Community Organiza ons: The Saskatchewan Lo eries Community Grant Program is again available to community organiza ons.

The purpose of the program is to provide funds to volunteer organiza ons that provide programs and services in sport, culture and recrea on.

Funds are provided through the Town of Carlyle to maintain, improve and expand on programs and opportuni es for people of all ages to derive the benefits from involvement in sport, culture and recrea on ac vi es. For this reason, only those expenditures that can be directly related to programming will qualify for grant assistance.

The Town of Carlyle is now accep ng applica ons for assistance under the Community Grant Program. Applica on forms for the program are now available at the Town Office and must be submi ed by organiza ons reques ng assistance.

Moe must offer better alternative

By Murray Mandryk New Democrat Opposition leader Ryan Meili should have attended the Rally Against the Carbon Tax protest.

If for no other reason, he should have been there politically strategic reason of demonstrating that he is willing to listen to the concerns of those who he purports to want to lead. Maybe there weren’t many votes to be gained by the NDP leader at that event, but he surely has lost even more votes in rural Saskatchewan by not going.

It is now hugely problematic for Meili to have defined the event as a “yellow vest” rally before it even happened and then to have to admit later that organizer Jason LeBlanc and others did a pretty good job of keeping out the unwanted yellow vest element.

Moreover, Meili apologists who insist their NDP leader shouldn’t have went to the rally because is was a thinly veiled political event seem to be missing a couple important points.

While the crowd were solidly Sask. Party/Conservative supporters, it would have been helpful for Meili to be there to say he doesn’t support this particular federal carbon tax, either.

That Meili chose not to go after suggesting this was a yellow vest event and that yellow vesters are racist and anti-immigrant was problematic enough.

To not go and to then allow Premier Scott Moe the political opportunity to tell the crowd why you’re not there is dumb politics.

But there is another very different reason why Meili should have been there.

Meili, or someone else, needs to challenge Meili Moe on what the Sask. Party government intends to do about reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

This is something that many people in this province also would prefer the Premier ignore.

There are those who range from downright deniers that the climate is changing to those who suggest that it is change is totally a natural occurrence to those who suggest that whatever change is happening has little to do human activity and that more carbon dioxide is actually good thing.

Those who suggest any of the above are ignoring best science available, science supported by agencies like NASA that tells us there is a global warming threat and that threatening aspect is a result of human activity.

Interestingly, this is also the position of Prairie Resilience, provincial government’s “made-in-Saskatchewan response” to the carbon tax. It commits to “output-based performance standards” that is also a carbon price model to be applied to Saskatchewan’s heaviest admitters.

Yet the most Moe would say about the GHG/ global warming is the following: “In Saskatchewan, we accept that climate change is happening and we even accept that humans are contributing to that,” Moe told the 1,000 protestors that were part of 700-truck convey. “What we don’t accept is that a carbon tax is in any way an effective way to actually deal with that.”

As has been stated in this space before, there is ever reason to suspect that this federal carbon tax will not work.

But what then, is the alternative that the province is offering?

It’s all well and good for Moe to suggest that “farmers are some of the strongest environmentalists in the world” or that we aren’t getting enough credit for carbon sinks and zero tillage. $1.6 billion invested in SaskPower’s carbon capture and storage.

But the facts remain that GHGs are still increasing in Saskatchewan and GHGs are a worldwide problem.

We can all say this doesn’t matter because Saskatchewan, and even Canada, represents a small fraction of the world problem when it comes to GHG emissions.

But what this province can’t say is that it’s doing its part.

And as a leader, Moe has commit to doing our part.

What are you looking for?

It was a Saturday. An unusual Saturday to be sure in that the whole family would be home. No games or practices to attend, no meetings or events, no places they had to be. An entire Saturday to be filled with whatever they wanted.

So the mom said, “Let’s clean the house.” Just imagine Shelley Luedtke the excitement that ensued.

Nevertheless, the process began. But what could easily have been a day of “I can’t believe we have to do this” became a day of unexpected thanksgivings.

The mom, who may have wandered into the bathroom exasperated that no one in the house seemed capable of putting a new role of toilet paper on the spindle, instead gave thanks for running water and quality sanitation when so much of the world has neither.

The dad, who upon cleaning out the fridge could have expressed frustration at people not noticing the leftovers that had gone bad, instead gave thanks for an abundance of food that allows his family to be fed--and even have extras-something much of the world knows nothing about.

The teenage girl, who could have complained about a lack of storage space in her bedroom, instead reorganized what she owned, selected items to give to charity, and recognized she had enough clothes to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer--something only a small percentage of teenage girls in the world can say.

The younger sibling, who could have rolled her eyes at being the one having to unload the dishwasher yet again, decided instead to express thanks for having enough dishes for each member of the family--in addition to a cupboard full of already clean ones--something too many children don’t have.

A fairy tale? No, a day a few years ago when my family had a chance to look past the chore and see the change that comes with looking at something from a bit different perspective.

From the time our girls were little we did regular closet and toy box cleanings, urging them to get rid of what was no longer needed and donating what was still useable and in good shape. We tried to shift the focus from the task of cleaning, to the real possibility that we might be able to bless someone out of the abundance that had accumulated.

My girls are adults now and we haven’t gone through that sort of exercise with them in a long while, but I needed a reminder just the other day. Standing in front of the bedroom closet I muttered about not being able to find what I wanted. My husband asked what I was looking for as I moved stacks of clothes and eventually spotted it under a pile of shirts. There were so many items sitting folded on top of it I couldn’t see it—and I-- muttered? Surely my mindset needed an adjustment.

Sometimes in the midst of so much, we fail to recognize what it really is. What we see depends entirely upon how we are looking. Look for the inconvenience and you will find it, but look for the blessing and you will see it everywhere.

That’s my outlook.

Financial Focus Managing Your Money

How to pay yourself what you’re worth and what’s best for your company You’re the owner of an incorporated business and you want to be adequately compensated for your work while sustaining and growing the financial health of your business. You could choose to pay yourself a salary (including bonuses), pay yourself through dividends from shares you own in the company, or pay yourself through a combination of salary and dividends. Which is best for you?

Salary • Is a deduction to your company but will also attract both employer and employee Canada Pension Plan (CPP) premiums and, in some provinces, payroll taxes.

• Generates Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) contribution room, CPP benefits and is necessary if you wish to establish an Individual Pension Plan (IPP).

• Often recommended if the cash need is immediate

Dividends • Are paid out of after-tax corporate profits. Corporate business income in excess of the small business deduction (SBD) limit ($500,000 federally and in most provinces) is subject to higher corporate tax rates. Most dividends paid out of dollars taxed above the SBD are eligible for a more advantageous personal tax rate, referred to as eligible dividends.

Dividends paid with dollars taxed at the lower SBD rate are non-eligible dividends, resulting in a lower Dividend Tax Credit for the shareholder and, consequently, attracting more personal tax than an eligible dividend.

• Generally recommended if cash is not required immediately, or if the combined corporate taxes plus personal income taxes on the dividend are less than the taxes payable on an equivalent salary A mix of salary and divi-

dends • In the past, tax professionals usually advised business owners to pay themselves at least enough salary to reduce corporate profits below the SBD limit, to avoid higher rates of corporate tax on active income. But, with the increase in personal tax rates, more tax can now be deferred by leaving income in the corporation – so, if your personal finances allow, it can make sense to retain high tax rate income inside the corporation for investment back in the business or other investment opportunities, subject to the new Passive Investment Rules that may limit future SBD limits for the corproation.

However, to the extent that you require cash on a regular basis, salary is still the preferred compensation choice until corporate income is reduced to the SBD limit.

A pure dividend strategy • Taking compensation

solely as dividends means that you will not be able to contribute to investments held in an RRSP, will lose access to CPP disability benefits and may not qualify for group disability plans.

However, this strategy can allow more income to be saved inside the corporation than could otherwise be contributed to investments held personally within a RRSP or to an IPP and could potentially offset the reduction in future CPP retirement benefits. But this is a complicated strategy that requires consultation with your professional advisors.

ADHD in girls versus boys: why girls often go undiagnosed According to Canada’s Centre for ADHD Awareness, boys are twice more likely than girls to be diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). However, girls aren’t less prone to ADHD, rather, their symptoms differ and are less easy to recognize.

Research shows that while boys tend to demonstrate hyperactive behaviours and externalized symptoms of ADHD — running around indoors, acting out, fidgeting, etc.

— girls more often exhibit inattentive behaviours and internalized symptoms like anxiety.

Because girls’ symptoms are less noticeable, parents and teachers often don’t recognize them as signs of ADHD. As a result, many girls with ADHD aren’t diagnosed until well into their teens and twenties. In some cases, it’s misdiagnosed as a learning disability or mood disorder.

Undiagnosed ADHD in

girls can lead to low selfesteem and mental health issues like depression, anxiety and eating disorders.

They’re also more likely to struggle in social situations and personal relationships.

Some common symptoms of ADHD in girls include low self-esteem, appearing withdrawn, anxiety, forgetfulness, difficulty focusing, messiness and a tendency to daydream.

Boys’ symptoms are more likely to include hyperactivity, excessive talk-

ing, difficulty sitting still and physical aggression.

(These are just generalizations and some girls with ADHD exhibit hyperactive behaviours while some boys may respond to the disorder by becoming quiet and withdrawn.)

If you’re a parent or teacher, keep in mind that hyperactivity isn’t the only way that ADHD manifests in children. Look out for all possible signs of ADHD and get a professional diagnosis if necessary.

Submitted by Staff Sgt. Darren Simons This week we returned to dealing with false alarms and we responded to three of them. We just about made it without any accidental 911 calls, however, we had three on the last day of the reporting period.

We had a report of wolves or coyotes howling in town and possibly following someone. It seems even the wildlife is moving to town. Members confirmed howling could be heard.

So your neighbours dog growls at you. I am guessing it does not like you, maybe it does not like anyone. Growling dogs are not an issue that the Police need to know about, unless, your neighbour transforms into a werewolf - nope, that would be a wolf, not a dog.

We are investigating allegations of assault involving an intoxicated individual. The complainant wanted us to know about it, get our help, however, apparently not do anything.

We can confirm we know about it, tried to help and we are continuing to investigate at this time.

We had several attempted break and enters and break and enters. Our investigations are continuing. We may have some evidence to be analyzed by our Forensic Identification Section.

Some people can get so jealous. If you are in a relationship you may wish to stop communicating with your ex, or even with certain people of the same gender.

That can cause jealousy, which is not a Criminal Offence and not a Policing matter, however, many people think it is.

We had two individuals get into an altercation. Apparently they were fighting over puppies. After conducting a dogged investigation we found no charges were warranted.

If we put someone on conditions of no contact with an individual or individuals and those individuals choose to have contact with the accused. Well, we probably will not lay charges.

That said if the accused causes problems or garners our attention we could lay charges.

So you are being followed on Social Media and you feel bothered by this. Unfortunately, this is not a policing issue. Block the individual or individuals and if you feel they may come to your residence, lock the doors and get a security system or video system.

We had a report of some after market tires being stolen. This could have happened any time over the winter. This limits our investigational avenues, however, it does not stop us from investigating.

We attended an altercation at a residence caused by at least one individual abusing substances. This individual was subsequently transported to the hospital, then to cells and released the following day without charges.

others trying to operate a motor vehicle while impaired. The responsible individual took the keys, however, the intoxicated individuals were now causing further troubles.

We took custody of all three and provided them individual rooms to rest and stay out of trouble.

This ensured they would not drive.

I must say our “rooms” lack comfort.

They do have a toilet and sink combo, and two benches. Sometimes you may get a real uncomfortable mattress, and if you are lucky a rough blanket. I don’t think any of this helps us get a good rating on those travel sites.

We received a third hand report about an intoxicated individual that may be involved in something quite serious. A patrol was made and the individual was intoxicated, but not doing anything wrong, illegal or concerning. We would rather confirm this immediately than get a report much later so a win, win for everyone I guess.

We are investigating a complaint of cattle not being cared for properly.

We had an individual arrested and lodged for public intoxication.

They were found in a playground, apparently trying to relive their childhood?

We had an individual raise concerns over the fact these reports don’t show both sides of the story. We are human and we too make mistakes. Such as when a Member got stuck when he mistook a snowmobile trail for an access road while going to assist another vehicle that also made that same mistake. We don’t try and hide these events. It is actually very difficult to do so, being we generally drive fully marked vehicles with lights and with everyone carrying a cell phone and with Social Media, these things get out there. I will endeavour to put the lighter side of our job in this article more often.

Members attended to an argument after a minor collision. We ended the argument by arresting the one driver who subsequently provided samples of 290 mg % and 300 mg% (Legal limit is 80) This individual was lodged until the following morning.

A few days later Members responded to a report of an impaired driver and located the vehicle and arrested the driver who provided samples of 210 mg%.

This driver was also lodged and released the following morning.

Thank you to the callers that reported this driver.

Both individuals were photographed, fingerprinted and issued paperwork compelling them to court and restricting their ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Their vehicles were also seized for 60 days being their alcohol levels were over twice the legal limit.

An individual was stopped for speeding and they ended up getting a 72 hour suspension after they provided a sample of their breath into an approved screening device.

We had another report of an impaired driver, however, when we located the vehicle it was parked and the suspected occupants were in a residence. Being we could not identify the driver we were unable to arrest and charge anyone. We still appreciated the call.

I have recently given some talks to the youth in several schools about safe driving and the laws as they relate to traffic safety. During these talks I get many questions. How many points does someone lose if they get a certain ticket.

“I don’t know, because I don’t care” How much does the towing company charge for storage.

“I don’t know, because I don’t care” Well I care a little bit, but not enough to find out.

If you choose to drive without a licence and get caught you will likely find yourself owing SGI $150. If you choose to continue driving without a licence SGI will likely choose to put an impound flag on your licence which means any vehicle you are caught operating will be seized for 30 days. Oh, yes, you will also get the $150 ticket. This happened over the last week.

It appears someone drove into Built for Life and damaged the building. This is less of a big deal if you report it. We are now investigating.

Tickets were issued for fail to stop at stop sign - $230, fail to produce registration certificate - $100, unregistered motor vehicle -$580, operate a motor vehicle without a valid licence - $150, use licence plates on wrong vehicle - $175, and most expensive speeding ticket was for $210.

Warnings were issued for speeding, excessive damage to windshield, inadequate licence plate light, fail to stop at stop sign, and fail to wear seatbelt.

Inspection notices were issued for removing window tint, broken tail light, inadequate head light, no tail lights, and inadequate day time running lights.

CFY Girls Group explore their creative side

By Mary Moffat marymoffat@sasktel.net Cornerstone Family and Youth’s Girls Group has gone Off the Rails, or rather they have been creating masterpieces at the studio.

Misti Bayliss had no patience for the ceramics that were such a big part of her mother’s, Sandra Big Eagle, life. Although she had dabbled with pottery 20 years ago, when her son Wyatt moving to Regina to attend university, she quickly became obsessed.

In order to provide herself with an excuse to be in the city while not appearing needy, she signed up for some classes at the Cathedral Art School, and quickly found that she couldn’t wait for the next weekend to roll around.

Sunday sessions quickly led to open studio nights on Fridays and the next thing she knew, she was setting up a studio at her home in Whitebear Lake Resort. She bought her wheel and a kiln two years ago and with the help of Carla Marie of Regina and Autumn Downey from Glorious Mud in Arcola, and thus began her journey that would combine her love of pottery and teaching.

Two afternoons a week, Bayliss can be found at the studio, formerly the RM building, on Railway Avenue in Carlyle, in the company of the CFY Girls Group, where she has been teaching them how to throw pots, make bowls, mugs and doing hand building. The girls work with a variety of tools, and once they finish their works of art, they are dried, glazed and fired. The girls will then be able to take home their completed works of art.

Bayliss has two different age groups attending her classes and says they have such imaginations.

They aren’t held back by limitations, there is no overthinking and are very supportive of each other.

Her studio is designed to help people to discover their creativity, and she wants to open up her conference room to other artists so they can set up and teach, using their preferred medium.

The Sustainability Project salutes volunteers

By Mary Moffat marymoffat@sasktel.net The Sustainability Project is a fee for service enterprise that works with people to build the communities they love, with councils to help manage large infrastructure projects and develop asset management plans and supports those plans to endure compliance and good stewardship.

Lorri Matthewson will convocate on May 11 with her Masters in Community Economic Development and she has big plans for her company. One of these steps was to hire Jennifer Sedor, who has a certificate in Executive Leadership for Non-profit Sector, a certificate in Governance in Co-operatives and is working on an Economic Development Designation.

While Sedor was excited to work with Matthewson, she did have one concern, that being her infant daughter, June. Matthewson quickly suggested that June come to work with her mom, something relatively unusual at most places of business. June quickly fit right in, sleeping, playing, nursing and has been generally brightening the space since Jan. 21 of this year.

As part of her commitment to communities, Matthewson was quick to purchase items and create a gift basket, designed to celebrate volunteers.

She asked people to drop in and fill in ballots with the names of deserving volunteers. The ballots quickly outgrew the tin and had to be moved into a larger cookie jar. Beside her regular business ac-

By Mary Moffat marymoffat@sasktel.net Since it was inaugurated in November of 1985, Cornerstone Theatre has delighted audiences with two performances a year and this spring’s comedy promises to uphold that tradition.

A quiet lakeside getaway in Minnesota is riddled with raised voices and short fuses in Gary Ray Stapp’s comedy, “The Trouble with Cats.” The plot focuses on a lakeside resort that gets double-booked with two couples who have little in common. To make matters worse, part of the home is under construction and there are nosy neighbours who come by anytime they want.

and quiet with his wife, Ivy. They are gravely disappointed when it’s far from serene when a freespirited younger couple appear on the scene.

This production has adult themes so it is not recommended for children. Directed by Lane and Colleen Easton, the cast will have you laughing until you cry.

April 26 & 27 boasts a Dinner Theatre at 6 p.m. with a fantastic meal catered by David and Shelley Slykhuis. These tickets are $35. Adult beverages will be available both in the Hall downstairs and upstairs in the theatre itself. Sunday afternoon’s matinee will begin at 2 p.m. and are available for $20. We (Gray and I) attended the brunch at Wauchope on Apr. 14. It was very well attended as usual and one enjoyed the delicious food which is always in abundance.

It was another weekend of great curling for

me to watch. Although I had to fight Gray for the remote on some days as he wanted to watch the Masters Golf Tournament. Now I find that the most boring game – try and watch a tiny white ball fly through a bright blue sky – I can’t do it. Oh well everyone to their taste – for me as you have and can hear – it’s definitely curling (right now anyway) and this weekend was no exception. The Pinty’s Grand Slam Players’ Championship – great curling with magnificent shots being made by all the teams. The men’s final had Team Koe against Team Bottcher and the result was that Team Bottcher came out on top. It is nice to see a new team become the champs and there

are some great teams out there. In the Women’s final it was Team Einarson against Team Hasselborg (Sweden), this went an extra end and saw Team Einarson coming out on top – another nail biting game.

I do believe that there is one more last curling event that will be televised – it’s the Humpty’s Championship playoffs from Saskatoon on Apr. 23 and televised Apr. 25. I’ll enjoy watching it even if it is the last for this season and I’ll probably go into curling withdrawal when it’s done (ha ha). Gray did get to watch the Master’s as well (it was a re-run and he didn’t seem to mind – thank goodness).

He was in his glory too as Tiger Woods was the winner. I’ll soon be into the football mood, as the CFL will soon be in full swing – Go Riders Go. Bits & Pieces Quilt Club team up with Moosomin quilters Submitted The Bits & Pieces Quilt Club of Carlyle is joining with a group of dedicated quilters in Moosomin who make quilts for Victoria’s Quilts Canada.

“Victoria’s Quilts Canada (VQC) provides homemade quilts to people living with cancer in Canada.

By providing these quilts, we hope to bring physical comfort to those dealing with cancer as well as spiritual comfort in knowing that they are not alone in their struggle” (from www.victoriasquiltscanada. com).

The Moosomin group, in existence since 2013, has made and distributed 600 quilts to the people of Saskatchewan who are battling cancer. It’s a continual challenge to keep up with the demand so they were very pleased when the Bits & Pieces Quilt Club offered to help them. Several people from Carlyle have received a quilt from VQC in recent years and they were all very appreciative that someone applied for a quilt on their behalf.

Sympathy to Ken and Monique Myers on the passing of Monique’s sister, Louise Campeau of Gatineau, Quebec.

She was 64-years-old.

Ken and Monique attended her funeral on Apr. 11 at St. Mark’s the Evangelist Catholic Church in Gatineau.

Kevin and Jenniene Greenbank and Brent and Connie Pryce enjoyed a holiday in Cancun, Mexico recently.

Dennis and Vicki Beauchesne have returned home after their annual three-month stay in Sun City, Arizo-

na.

Harold Laich flew home from Arizona after spending the winter there. He was on hand to chair the Wawota School Council meeting concerning the future direction of the school curriculum held on Apr. 10.

Isabel Robertson of Moosomin, Ross and Donna Petterson, Joan Colborn and Phil and Carol Reddekop attended the funeral for the late Joyce Dakue. Joyce passed away Apr. 4 at the age of 85 years. Her funeral service was held

on Apr. 13 at the Parkland Bible Church in Kipling. Joyce was Cliff Robertson’s last surviving sibling. Sympathy to the family and friends.

The 6th Annual Gala was held at the Wawota town hall last Saturday and was a great success.

All of the hard work and community involvement raise funds to combat childhood brain cancer. It also brings back fond memories of Cienna. This money will be donated to Meagan’s Walk in Toronto in May. Meagan’s Walk is in its 18th year.

Pastor Roy Bortoittto, and Danny Roberts brought communion to Villa residents by Maryfield United Church. Charlotte Kovach was in and out with library books, and brought a movie and popcorn on Friday night.

Freda Thiessen joined the Circle of Friends with her banjo.

She reported rubber boots and spring pipers, and Mary of her baby goats. Our discussion topic was Favorite Spring Activities. For Ralph Burke it is the unfolding of new creation. For Ruth Dennis, Aileen and race it was yard cleaning, planting and mowing. Joyce loved washing windows! Their house had no storm windows, and for months the frost grew on the glass, and no one could see out.

For Carol Leech it was seeing the snow melt, tulips pop up, and playing in puddles. Ralph playing in rivulets of running water. Janet’s earliest memories are of planting peas with her mother; and years later, of five kids dropping potatoes in the furrows, in their bare feet. Violet loved the baby chicks, goslings and ducklings.

Gladys remembered a big rooster which chased her while she was mowing. Most of us planted big gardens.

Grace recalled the sigh of relief when the yard was cleaned and the garden in! Halleluiah!

This week saw half a page of Visitors in the Guest Book. They included: Ruth and David Lees, Parkman; April and Glen Lalgi, Trent and Jody Schmidt, Moosomin; Sherry Wilson, Donna Leech and Nela Mowbray, Wawota; Tim Daku, Harold, Cheryl, Amanda and Darlene Friesen came to dinner with Leora and

held a Hymnsing. Evelyn Downer visited old friends. Alvin and Marg Abrahamson from Kipling; Isobel Roberson; Richard and Sharon Beutler, Moosomin.

The Associated Gospel Church brought us young and old.

Four young musicians, led by John Kliever on banjo and Kegan Thiessen, Landon and Ben Retzlaff on guitars,

sang and led community singing. Margaret and Gilbert Penner delighted us with a joyous song of faith, to melodies new to us.

The Villa was in the midst of a 24 hour water emergency, so it was no wonder the Lester Thiessen took “Water of Life” for his sermon topic. We had water back for breakfast, but off again later.
