Outdoor rink revives the traditional spirit

By Laura Kish Christmas traditions … we all have them. Some of those memories include skating on an outdoor pond all afternoon and not leaving the ice until Mom calls you in for supper. Then heading right back out again whether it’s to practise their pirouette or passing the puck.

Kipling may have a new tradition thanks to Alan Batters, owner of Gee Bee Construction, who built an outdoor rink for the second year in a row with an ice surface of 100 feet by 185 feet. Yes it’s bigger than one he had last year and upgraded with red and blue lines and face off circles, and more lights to add that twinkle for skating at night.

Batters was approached last year about making an outdoor rink to coincide with the Winter Carnival so that was somewhat of a trial run.

“Last year was so

warm so it wasn’t the ideal conditions for making the ice rink and we had to haul snow from all over the place to make the snow hill,” explains Batters.

“Last year people enjoyed it so much so we gotta do it this year,” says Batters. “With COVID, it’s outdoors and it’s perfect. For sure we have to do it.”

“It’s almost like they planted the seed last year and then it was a like a trial run last year. Who knew COVID-19 would hit us this year. It’s like it was almost meant to be,” Batters says.

Gee Bee’s staff were instrumental in getting the rink ready as well as the help of Bobby Byrnell with the ice making.

Surrounding the perimeter of the ice are benches and 10 firepits to cozy up to, increased from four to comply with social distancing.

“The first weekend more than a couple of cords of wood were

used,” says Batters.

Whether the weather is mild and warm or cool and windy, people still tend to go out and make use of the space.

It seems like there’s someone out there every day.

“It’s a good feeling to see so many people making use of it,” says Batters. “The school has been making good use of it.”

The property the rink sits on is in memory of Batters’ son Benjamin who passed away from cancer at a very young age. He was one of the last babies to be born in the Kipling Hospital in 2002. Sadly enough when he came back from Edmonton, he was at home for awhile, then went into palliative care and he passed away in the Kipling Hospital.

Batters went on to explain: “So when they tore the hospital down, I’d really like to buy this property. I didn’t know what I was going to do with it (at the time).

“On the Zamboni I do have a memorial picture of Benjamin. He used to play hockey so when the Zamboni is on the ice, he’s on the ice!”

All the other kids who went to school and played hockey with Benjamin think about him as well when they’re out there.

“It keeps his memory alive. So much gets forgotten so it’s a tribute to him,” explains Batters.

When asked if he sees himself doing this every year for years to come, his answer was simply, “I do actually.

My kids are young so it’ll be there for awhile.”

“My mind’s already going, what can we do next? What can we do better?”

Unique banknotes on display in Manor Rare chartered banknotes and coin collections were on display at the Manor Library on Dec. 12, 2020.

With the help of Ashish Soobah, Ria Soobah and Parizaad Mohangoo, the Manor Library had organized a coins and chartered banknotes show. The main reason of that show was to educate the community about the old paper money used in the 1800s and early 1900s.

Ashish had displayed mostly chartered banknotes and scripts, including the rare $3 and $4 banknotes. Ashish had been collecting Canadian and Mauritius banknotes for the last four years. In that four years, Ashish had invested lots of hours researching, learning and acquiring rare coins and banknotes of Canada and Mauritius.

In the last couple of years, Ashish had done three coins and banknotes shows in the surrounding towns and he is not planning to stop soon. He wants to share his knowledge to more and more people and educate them about Canadian coins and paper money.

Between 1871 and 1944, Canadian chartered banks were authorized to issue banknotes for circulation in Canada. For several decades thereafter, the chartered banks were the only issuers of larger

denominated notes for circulation in Canada.

There were around 166 chartered banks and over 8000 branches. In 1871, the smallest denomination allowed was $4, which was raised to $5 in 1880, which made the $3 and $4 banknotes more rare.

As of the end of 1944, the Canada government withdrew permission for Canadian banks to issue new banknotes for circulation in Canada and by 1950, liability for all outstanding Canadian banknotes was transferred to the Bank of Canada.

As per Ashish Soobah, $3 and $4 paper bills are extremely rare and lots of collectors pay more than book value for it.

Before banks were established in remote regions of Canada, paying employees involved shipping currency long distances into wild and often lawless regions.

The alternative to this risky enterprise was for the company to issue its own money. Called Scrip, this private merchant currency was redeemable for products at the company store and even frequently in the local economy.

When employees returned from the bush, they were able to redeem their scrip for cash at the company head office. Established in 1900, the Grand River Pulp & Lumber Com-

From 1902-1911, the company issued scrip in five, 10, 25 and 50-cent denominations, as well as $1, $2 and $5 to pay their lumber workers.

Ashish Soobah who is originally from Mauritius, also collects Mauritius banknotes also. He is holding a extremely rare 500 dollars for Mauritius Commercial Bank dated July 25, 1839. This banknote has a solid low serial number 77, which makes it more valuable.

The Old Man, marching cross across Canada, stopped in southeast Saskatchewan

By Ana Bykhovskaia Warren Michael, who is also known as The Old Man, is in the midst of a cross-country walk aimed at attracting attention to veterans and other important causes. He conceived the walk 10 years ago, and now his dream has come to fruition.

Michael was in southeast Saskatchewan recently, making his way through Oxbow, Carnduff and other communities.

He said that an infamous 2018 comment, made

by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who stated that some veterans that his government was fighting in court wanted more than Ottawa could afford, sped up his idea.

As his website says, a "caring Canadian fuelled by courage, strength, faith and love" Michael started his 20202021 mission in Kelowna, B.C. He built the wooden nine-foot cross, weighing between 80 and 100 pounds, to help him deliver the message.

The cross says, "Veterans are not asking for more than I can give" on the one side and "Rights and Liberty, Truth and Freedoms" on the other.

The Old Man departed from Kelowna in December 2020, leaving his family with two kids behind and sacrificing a family Christmas for a big cause.

He is planning to march the cross across Canada and make it all the way to Ottawa, in this manner raising awareness and funds for veterans, clean drinking water for First

Nations, as well as raising autism awareness and also attracting attention to cancer research and mental health issues. The estimated route will have him covering about 4,500 kilometres.

"I just wanted to bring some hope, some faith and some strength back to Canadians, and show our veterans and our First Nations, and the world that Canada does have an identity. It's our First Nations, and it's our veterans," Michael said. "They are the backbone of this country.

They deserve our respect, and they deserve to be honoured."

So far his mission has been "amazing."

"I'm myself a man of a very few words and as another reporter has said I'm a man of great action. I let my action speak for itself, but the support is overwhelming. It's just a blessing in itself. And I just got going," Michael said.

He walks through snow and mud for five to eight hours a day with small breaks, all while carrying the cross on his shoulder. He believes that if every Canadian donates just one dollar, the problems veterans are facing could be solved. And cross helps him deliver that message.

"It's up to us as Canadians to do it ourselves," Michael said.

The cross also has images of poppies, an eagle feather and the medicine wheel for the First Nations. Besides, it has cancer, mental health and autism symbols depicted on it.

It also says "RIP Big Guy" on one of the edges. Michael ex-

plained that remark.

"The Big Guy is actually right here in my pocket with me on it as well," said Michael pulling a small bag presumably with ashes out of his pocket. "He was a good buddy of mine, fellow Christian and just a guy that loved this country. He passed just the first couple of months of COVID. He had a heart attack. I talked to him about doing this before he passed. And I talked to him about doing it over the years, and he stood behind me all the way with what I was wanting to do ‌ He is with me on this walk, helping me out."

The cross also serves as a donation box. Michael said that he doesn't plan to open it until the mission is completed, so the cross will be getting heavier as he progresses with his mission.

Money raised will be directed to the Veterans Memorial Medical Centre Society and potentially to other organizations, which work in the areas Michael is raising awareness for, including the company that's currently working on getting water for First Nations and others.

He wants to deliver his message to the government.

Later on, he plans to replace the panels on the cross with thicker wood and he wants to get Canadians even more involved with his project.

"I'm going to ask Canadians who feel that our government has failed these issues, to come put in a nail or a screw into this piece of history. And once it's full of nails and screws, we are going to

He doesn't know when and where it will happen, but he said he'll keep going until he achieves the results he is looking for.

Michael added that so far he's felt blessed with the support he's been receiving.

"This is important. This is our history," Michael said.

"These things should have never been an issue. It's Canada. It's 2021 now, water never should have been an issue, especially in Canada."

His original route didn't include the southeast corner, but he said it was the Soldiers' Tree in Estevan that made him change his plans.

He said he was "blown away" by the Soldiers' Tree, the community and the stories people shared with him.

Michael doesn't have a set date for completing the mis-

sion, but he said that so far it's been going a bit faster than he expected as he was trying to make it to some events happening in various communities. He added that in general, he decides on most of his route as he walks, and he goes to the communities where he feels he is needed and where his message needs to be shared.

While in Estevan, Michael also received fur mittens that were given to him "in respect to all First Nations lost in the wars," and a golden eagle feather as gifts from some community members.

It’s been a year unlike any other

By Murray Mandryk In a year dominated by a global pandemic, it’s almost as if we’ve forgotten that we had a historic election.

Yes, the Saskatchewan Party win on October 26 was historic … although it may not have seemed that way because everyone expected this history to be made.

No other political party in Saskatchewan has won four consecutive majority governments since the Tommy Douglas Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (the CCF, which would later become the NDP) accomplished that feat in 1956.

Douglas’s CCF would go on to win a fifth term in 1960, resulting in 20 years of rule.

By the end of this term in 2024, the Brad Wall-Scott Moe-led Sask. Party will have ruled for 17 consecutive years, surpassing the string of 16 consecutive years for the Roy Romanow-Lorne Calvert-led NDP. It’s noteworthy, however, that one of the NDP’s four terms from 1999 until 2003 was actually a coalition government propped by Liberals who eventually defected to the NDP, so it wasn’t exactly a true majority.

What we witnessed on Oct. 26 is the creation of the third-longest serving government in the history of a province. By the end of this term, only the Douglas CCF government from 1944 until 1964 and the original Liberal government from 1905 to 1929 will have served the province longer.

But the historic nature of Scott Moe’s 48-13 majority win (exactly where the Saskatchewan legislature was at when all its seats were last occupied prior to the 2019 federal election) wasn’t only about the longevity of the Sask. Party government.

The history in the making was also about the magnitude of both the win the popularity of this party that has supplanted the NDP as the province’s natural-governing party.

For the third consecutive Saskatchewan election, the Sask. Party swept every rural seat — something no other party had ever previously done.

But what has made the Sask. Party more than just the “rural party” that couldn’t form governments in its first two elections under Elwin Hermanson is its broad-based appeal.

Also for the third consecutive election, the Sask. Party received more than 60 per cent of the popular vote — something that simply cannot be overlooked or downplayed.

Yes, the Sask. Party won 29 “rural seats” (those outside the four largest cities and including the two northern seats that have always gone NDP) with huge numbers that pumped up its overall popular vote. These strong seats were why the election was never in doubt.

Let us not forget that this election occurred in the middle of a pandemic. The Sask. Party had to run on a 2020-21 budget with a record $2.1-billion deficit, record public debt and the biggest drop in employment since the federal government began accurately recording the statistics in the mid-1970s.

If there was an election where the Sask. Party might have suffered a major fall, one might have thought it would be this one.

But the simple reality is that the Sask. Party has never really experienced a major setback.

This supposed “rural party” swept Moose Jaw and Prince Albert and took away seats in longtime NDP strongholds in north Regina and even Saskatoon Riversdale, which was occupied for decades by Romanow and Calvert.

The big political story this year was a dominant Sask. Party election night win.

What TV taught us

Shelley Luedtke It was New Year’s Eve 2019 and of the top resolutions being made that night, less screen time sat just behind getting finances in order and living a healthier life. Enter 2020.

Countless households took a deep financial hit, the plan to exercise gave way to the quarantine 15 and then of course, there’s the screens. The resolve to spend less time was quickly replaced by the necessity to increase it thanks to everything moving virtual. We also had to search for entertainment options right at home. But all that extra TV watching didn’t have an effect on us, right?

The greater part of the year left us wondering if this was The Real World or if we were part of The Twilight Zone, questioning if these were truly The Days of Our

Lives. Going outside was said to put us in Jeopardy so we remained in our House with our social bubble, knowing the days of Full House would be put off for a while. By Christmas it was no more than a Party of Five.

We recognized how much we cherished Family Ties and we looked for ways to stay connected with Friends, as we truly missed our Bosom Buddies. Those living in the same household felt All in the Family was just a bit too close, and longed for extra square footage to spread out into The West Wing and avoid the Family Feud. Many had to isolate Upstairs Downstairs in their own homes in the hopes of ensuring Happy Endings.

The Office moved to kitchen tables where All Creatures Great and Small ruled the roost. If Lassie wanted to interrupt a meeting, he did, leaving us to wonder Who’s the Boss? All around the world the Wild Kingdom re-emerged, taking back some of the space we took from them While You Were Out. We were asked to have only one member of the household go out and do the Supermarket Sweep. In some places the Designated Survivor

faced a Jungle simply trying to buy Bare Necessities, hoping The Price is Right. Police clamped down on the Criminal Minds of those price gouging to make The Profit.

Our Parks and Recreation were shut down and our Sports Centre was now the kitchen table where board games and puzzles became the focus of Good Times.

With more time in our houses, we tackled Home Improvement, turning some people into Designing Women and others into Disaster DIY, putting their Life In Pieces.

People got desperate (or ambitious) enough to show off their Shear Genius cutting their own hair, making their own Soap or altering their clothes for the Next In Fashion. It was a time of paying homage to the skills needed for life in The Little House on the Prairie, despite living as a Modern Family.

We looked to leaders for guidance and plans, but found Stranger Things in Scandal and Big Little Lies, as well as benefits for some that will have our country living Til Debt Do Us Part.

Travel plans were put on hold when our Wings were clipped but it turned

some of us into Road Rovers with time to explore what is In Our Backyard.

Since we stayed close to home there was no worry of getting Lost in Another World.

When our part of the world began reopening there were Happy Days in resuming some of what we used to know. But it didn’t last too long and we were told to Curb Your Enthusiasm as The Surge put us back under restrictions again.

There has been so much pain, such grief, such heartache for too many, but at times has brought out The Good Fight in us as we pulled together for each other.

Each night Cheers came from balconies and street corners for The Good Doctor and Nurses in every ER and General Hospital around the world.

We saw a Quantum Leap in the production of a vaccine and we move forward in Hope and Faith that this Life Unexpected will soon feel more like This Is Us. The best thing we can do in this new year is to take comfort in the fact that we are Still Standing.

We are thankful we live in The Good Place and can continue to take it One Day at a Time. That’s my outlook.

Former Carnduff resident earns recognition Submitted by Glenn and Pauline Verity Andrej Verity of Carnduff has been named Charles Sturt University Alumnus of the Year for Service to the Community in the university’s inaugural 2020 Distinguished Alumni Awards.

The awards acknowledge alumni who embody the Charles Sturt University ethos “yindyamarra winhanganha,” a Wiradjuri phrase that means “the wisdom of respectfully knowing how to live well in a world worth living in.”

Verity graduated in 2010 with a master of information technology (with distinction) in the Charles Sturt School of Computing and Mathematics, and is currently a disaster responder and information management officer at the United Nations.

He grew up in Carnduff, where he did his general schooling and grew up playing hockey.

He was the valedictorian of his graduating class in 1994. Then he did his first degree (a bachelor of commerce, with computational science major) at the University of Saskatchewan.

Having previously lived in New York (twice), Switzerland, North Korea, New Zealand, the Philippines and Canada, Verity, with his wife and two children (aged 12 and 15) recently moved to The Hague, Netherlands, where he leads the Digital Service team within the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA).

“My team provides technical management to about 20 humanitarian websites, including reliefweb.int, the most visited humanitarian site - and infrastructure support to approximately 40 sites,” Verity said.

“The most rewarding part of my job is being able to both identify and implement strategic and operational choices that benefit the organization, often by reduc-

ing the capacity required for an activity such that those resources can be used for more important, more strategic, or more relevant work for the organization’s unique mandate.

“I want people, teams and the organization to maximize their resources on things that make UN-OCHA unique and impactful, not on things that can be easily outsourced, digitized or automated.”

Verity is fortunate to be able to identify several moments throughout his career that reaffirmed “that’s why I do this” and he could see the difference he was making.

“Examples include leveraging my technical and information management skills to respond to major international disasters, such as the 2010 Haiti earthquake, the 2010 Pakistan floods, the 2013 Typhoon Haiyan (also known as Super Typhoon Yolanda) in the Philippines and Southeast Asia, and the 2015 Nepal earthquake,” he said.

“Or it could be setting up the shared digital services team that has ushered in best user and design practices, security controls, significant efficiencies, etc., or it could be introducing a new solution – like Strattic.com – which has allowed us to largely stop worrying about WordPress security problems.

“Co-founding the Digital Humanitarian Network is also a career highlight, which, though we have been winding it down over the past couple years, was quite revolutionary when it was set up and enabled digitally skilled people from around the world to help (more traditional) organizations in disaster response.”

Verity said he was motivated to start studying again and chose Charles Sturt because he was looking to advance his strategic understanding and use of information technology and in-

“I wanted a master’s program that would recognize my past education and experience,” he said.

“And I wanted it to challenge me mentally; to enable me to better question my assumptions; and help me understand how to leverage my knowledge, skills and interests in such a way as to move my employer forward in the most strategic ways possible.

“My master’s really helped me think more strategically about information management and information technology, as well as to step back and look at an organizational view, not just a specific project. It also pushed me to become even more analytical and better appreciate sourcing and citing high quality work.”

Verity identified the strengths of studying with Charles Sturt hinged on the practical and efficient setup of the online course, as well as two personal considerations.

“Firstly, I needed recognition of past education and experience, which counted as credit towards my degree,” he said.

“Such recognition told me that the university would look at me for who I was, as opposed to being just a student number who would pay his bills, and get me into the right educational track and not force me to take a lot of boring or useless classes.

“I greatly appreciated that and it helped secure my loyalty to the university and made it a bit more ‘human.’

“The other paramount consideration for me was being able

“During my degree, I deployed to major international emergencies and even moved countries (New York, US, to Geneva, Switzerland).

“I could not enroll in a degree that would force me to be in one location and/or complete a residential component, and because Charles Sturt University had a proven record for remote learning, I knew that I was not joining a university that was just figuring that out.

“The mentality of the lecturers, the setup of the online resources, the well-defined processes (material distribution, assignment submission, grading, examinations, etc.) … made the remote experience quite smooth

and pleasant, and gave me confidence in my learnings and the university overall.”

Asked how he stayed motivated and balanced, while striving for excellence, Verity said, “Work to live. And beyond that, two things: find work that provides you satisfaction – even if it requires hard work.

It may not be joyous at all times, but it needs to provide satisfaction.

“And find a hobby that is compatible with your lifestyle; I love to travel and explore, which, obviously, works quite well in my lifestyle living abroad and my job in the international sector.”

What would he say to any young person who didn’t know what they wanted to study?

“Be flexible, be

practical,” he said. “You never know where your journey may take you, so find a way to study something that you enjoy.

“I was interested in computers, so I took a business degree combined computer science, and it took me into the business world, and eventually into the United Nations. It was not the career projection I had when I was 16, and it was not even the projection I had when I finished my first degree.

“In my experience, great jobs and experiences are rarely going to be handed to you,” he said. “It may take hard work and sacrifices to get what you want, and there may be struggles along the way. So find your passion, work hard, and focus on your life.”

A Second Family Dog Lodge: safe haven for your pet

By Lisa McCullough Debbie and Blair Andrew are an animal and people loving couple from Carlyle that own a dog boarding facility in the Carlyle area.

This facility is a place where people can feel assured that their animals will be loved and cared for just as if it were in their own homes. The couple moved to Carlyle in March 2001 with Blair's work and their three children.

“We are close knit.

Family is super important to me because I was an only child from a split family with lots of dysfunction. My passion has always been to love others although I never fully grasped that until a few years ago. I think I was created to 'mother'.

I love caring for people, animals and things. I will never be free from dysfunction but love covers all of that,” Andrew explains.

When asked what brought them to the decision to open a dog boarding facility, they explained that they had had quite a few bad experiences in the industry with their dogs coming home, looking and acting different.

“My husband Blair

and I have always loved animals and have experienced deep connections with our dogs over the years. We also made some very bad choices with our dogs that created an outcome or behaviour we never wanted or expected. Our dream for years has been to be able to take our dogs to a place where people would love and care for them like we did at home,” Deb explains.

It is because of this that they decided to open their boarding facility.

“When Blair resigned after 30 years as an insurance broker, starting his own business in this field seemed so logical to his entrepreneur brain and my love for animals and love of research set it all in motion,” Deb Andrew said.

They opened their doors on Dec. 1, 2018.

The couple states that the last two years have been great for them. At first they ran the facility alone but then added their daughter Nicole and a many other youths and adults over the course of the business's lifetime.

“This is definitely not a job for everyone and we have been so

blessed to have many come and use their love of dogs to come work with us. COVID-19 really tried to put a wrench into things for us but if we are truly honest, it has given us a chance to slow down and re-evaluate how we do things in relation to our why!

“It was super frustrating to have to lay off staff when we didn't know if we were able to stay open, how long we would be closed or any details about the virus.

Looking back, we can see how it all worked out for those who moved to other jobs at that time and how we were able to regroup.”

The Dog Lodge offers overnight boarding services and the odd bath for the dogs that actually enjoy baths. The purpose of the lodge is to have the dogs actually enjoy going to the facility and feel loved and cared for when they do go.

Though the couple does not plan on expanding the physical facility itself nor the amount of dogs they can house, they do plan on expanding their tools and resources to make the facility more fun and educational for their clientele.

By David Willberg Estevan Mercury The residents of the Gainsborough Health Centre have been enjoying handmade quilts that were created by the Cut ‘N Sew group from Faith Lutheran Church in Estevan.

Bright colours and soft, fuzzy fabrics were woven into the quilts, and some of the residents chose their own quilt to take back to their rooms.

It started with a conversation between Lori Moncrief – whose mother, Gladys Holitski, is a resident of the health centre – and Clara Freitag, who is part of the group at Faith Lutheran.

“I said something about how ‘I think they could use some new lap robes or quilts, and I just kind of left it at that. And then a couple a couple weeks later Clara said ‘Lori, I have some-

thing to tell you.’”

At that time, Freitag announced the women from Cut ‘N Sew were working on quilts to give to the health centre’s residents.

“Each quilt is special and individual.

Each has their own character,” said Moncrief.

“Some were soft and cuddly. Some were bright and colourful. There was a big mixture of designs.

I think the ladies put a lot of time and effort into what they did.”

Freitag and Irene Demas delivered the quilts.

The residents were impressed with the thought that went into each of the blankets and how each blanket made them feel comfortable.

“It was quite amazing, actually, to see 16 quilts that were all displayed for the residents, and it’s a little overwhelming,” said Moncrief.

By Kelly Johnson Carlyle Observer Living Skies CrossFit Training Centre held a weight loss program and fundraiser during the month of January. The “Jonzin January” weight loss challenge was open for entries to all members of both the Estevan and Carlyle locations of Living Skies CrossFit. Twenty-six members anted up, raising a sum of $1,300. Each participant, upon entering, named a

charity of their choice to donate the proceeds to. Also, each participant took an oath of no alcohol, drugs or junk food for the month of January.

Michelle Walsh was the top loser leading all participants, who in total, lost a combined weight of 50 kilograms. Her charity of choice was the Estevan Family Resource Centre.

Some of these Canadian soldiers had roots close to home here in the Carlyle area.

One such soldier was the brother of Dave McDonell, a long time resident of Carlyle.

His brother, Trooper Jack Alexander McDonell, was one of the soldiers in the liberation of Holland. He was laid to rest in the town of Bergen op Zoom, having lost his life while working to repair a tank.

The country of Holland has always been forever grateful to Canada and the soldiers that freed the country from Nazi occupation.

The Town of Carlyle is home to Lions Park, which is located on the south side of the community.

The park has seen many improvements over the years and is a wellmaintained multi faceted facility that provides outdoor activities to the community.

On May 16 volunteers did a thorough cleanup, repainted structures where needed and a general sprucing up throughout the facility to get ready for this season.

The park has six ball diamonds, a batting cage, soccer fields, 14 campsites, and bathroom facilities (wheelchair accessible), the Crescent Point Leisure Complex with a swimming pool and hot tub, a children’s play park and a walking path.

Dogs are welcome and each owner must clean up as needed if using the

park to walk their dog(s).

There is a pavilion that is a multi use structure with a roof, that can house a band, hold weddings and can be utilized for a beer garden during scheduled events.

Former Carlyle resident celebrates 100th birthday in style

By Kelly Johnson Of The Observer Former Carlyle resident Eva Eckert hit the century mark on July 16 and as anyone would never “suspect,” she was treated to a surprise birthday celebration.

Eckert was born on a farm during a cyclone in the Green Hill district, 30 kilometres south of Carlyle, to parents Frank and Violet George. Eckert was the middle child and the only one with red hair. She claims that the cyclone was responsible for her hair colour and freckles.

She attended the Green Hill School from Grade 1-8, and also took Grades 10 and 11 by correspondence, remembering having to ride

the horse and buggy to school in winter, spring, summer and fall. She enjoyed playing ball, attending community field meets that were a popular event in that era and also she loved to ride horseback.

Eckert enjoyed the farm and grew up helping her father with anything that needed to be done. She feels she was the “right hand man,” milking cows, and feeding the livestock, which included horses, chickens, swine, turkeys and geese. She remembers gardening too, but it was difficult to grow anything due to the dry years in the 1930s, and having to shoot rabbits that wandered too close to the foliage, being a threat to the potatoes

Big birthday bash came as a surprise « A11 With her 100th birthday coming up she was unaware of any big celebration planned and unsuspectingly went for a drive with her son the morning of her birthday, enjoying the local scenery and pulling into the golf course where she had played before, until she hung up the clubs in 2015 at the age of 95.

Enjoying the “grand old game” immensely and being one to practise the best etiquette of the game, she became concerned when her son drove up to a large crowd at

the course, admonishing him: “I saw all the women standing around, worrying that I would interrupt a golf game.”

She was encouraged to exit the car not knowing that everyone was there for a “golf game” and she would be teeing it up once again. Her son had worked in Regina and at one time worked with a local radio station, and still has many friends and acquaintances in the industry. They gathered to report on the upcoming match.

She was greeted with the

cameras flashing and microphones in her face, a heartfelt singing of Happy Birthday by all her family, friends, acquaintances and a couple well known sport figures that were in attendance: former Chicago Blackhawks hockey coach Lorne Molleken and former Saskatchewan Roughrider Roger Aldag, an inductee into the CFL Hall of Fame, who quite likely could have heard Eckert cheering from her living room on game days.

The set-up was complete when Eckert was summoned

to the No. 7 tee [to give the press corps the best vantage point to see her tee it up] she played in; with her son Murray, nephew Melvin George and his wife Marilyn. As Ekert exploded her first drive from the tee off box in five years she was immortalized with a daytime fireworks display which she was not startled by, but it did come as a bit of a shock to the other members of her 9:26 a.m. foursome.

Eckert also mentioned her love of sports, participating in curling at the local rink and

enjoying dancing while raising her family in her days living in Carlyle.

When asked what she has planned for the next hundred years she said “eating, sleeping, and drinking, enjoying life in general, that is my plan.”

She maintains the secrets to reaching 100 was growing up on a farm, living in a small town, eating home-grown vegetables and locally produced meats, and doing things in moderation.

“I worked hard all my life and it didn’t hurt me a bit”

Carlyle Cardinals capture Saskota Baseball League title

By Kelly Johnson of the Carlyle Observer The Carlyle Cardinals captured the Saskota Baseball League championship on their home field in Lions Park on Tuesday night, winning the best-of-three league final series in two straight games over the Estevan Wolves.

The game was close all the way, with the well-balanced Cardinals prevailing after a total team effort, winning 9-6 for the home fans who once again showed up to support the team.

This was the first championship for the Cardinals since 2016.

The final was between the two teams with the best records in the regular season. The Estevan Wolves bested the Carlyle Cardinals for first place in the regular season when they had a home field victory against them in a late season matchup in league play. Both teams finished the season with 8-1-1 records.

Carlyle and Estevan both won a pair of best of three showdowns to start the playoffs, with neither team suffering a loss. Estevan disposed

of their crosstown rivals, the Southeast Fireballs, along with the Oxbow Chiefs to make this year’s championship final.

The Cardinals rode the arms of Kody Rock and Dan Rasmussen, sweeping last year’s champions the Carnduff Astros, getting complete game performances from both pitchers and timely hitting that was spread throughout the lineup, meaning a total team effort.

They also swept the Kipling Royals.

The first game of the final went Monday night in Estevan with the Carlyle Cardinals throwing Rock to the Wolves to start Game 1. The Cardinals again received timely hitting and lead this one all the way, taking advantage of solid pitching to win the opener 6-1 and giving them the opportunity to win a league championship at home on Tuesday.

Again the Cardinals got it started early with the bats, opening up the scoring with a two-run home run by Talen King and then loading the bases for Mason Crossman, who singled in two more runs, giving starting pitcher Dan Ras-

The Cardinals stretched the lead to 5-0 in the second before the Wolves answered with a big fly of their own in the third and then going yard again with a two-run homer in the fourth after scoring a run on a single. That left them down 5-4.

Once again the Cardinals enjoyed some timely hitting,

scoring two more runs, going up 7-4 at the end the fourth.

The Wolves again had bite and scored one run in the top of the fifth inning, chasing Rasmussen from the mound.

The Cardinals again scored in their at bat, making the lead four runs going to the sixth.

After a brief pitching appearance by Brent McLean in the fifth inning, out came Rock

to mop up in the sixth.

The Wolves were not done, picking up a solo home run to make it a three-run game, but Rock was again solid on the mound and gave the Cardinals all they would need, closing out the Wolves with a final strikeout to bring home the league championship.

Premier Moe disscussed several issues while in Carlyle

By Kelly Johnson of the Carlyle Observer Interested constituents attended an address to the public by Premier Scott Moe that was held at Lions Park in Carlyle Wednesday afternoon.

Invited guests on hand for the address included Carlyle Mayor Wayne Orsted and town council, Cannington MLA Dan D’Autremont, and newly nominated Sask. Party candidate Daryl Harrison.

Premier Moe was introduced by D’Autermont, who has been the MLA for 29 years for the Cannington constituency and was one of the eight founding members of the Saskatchewan Party, which began as a coalition of provincial Liberals and Progressive Conservative MLAs in 1997.

This wasn’t Moe’s first visit to the constituency since he became premier; he was in Arcola in 2018. This is his first visit to Carlyle; the last documented time a Saskatchewan premier visited on official business was during the flood of 2011 when Premier Brad Wall stopped by.

D’Autremont, who is retiring from politics at the end of this legislative term, spoke of the success of the govern-

ment’s programs over the last few years and the party’s commitment to continue to build communities in the province before introducing Moe. The premier spoke of the success of the Municipal Economic Enhancement Program [MEEP], providing funding to communities in the province for infrastructure projects.

Communities receive money on a per capita basis.

The importance of the economy building program is mainly to build projects to enhance the overall quality of life for people in communities and attracting citizens to communities and retain residents as well.

The town of Carlyle has received a total of $216,472 under the program for three projects; $39,500 for rubber paving at the pool, $147,242 for a splash park and the balance for wall repairs at the Carlyle Sports Arena. MEEP is a $7.5 billion program to boost the Saskatchewan economy and enhance the COVID-19 economic recovery.

Premier Moe also discussed the government’s effort on the COVID-19 reopening and the importance for the citizens of Saskatchewan to continue to take the pandemic seriously. It is because of the efforts of the people of

Premier Moe had made a previous stop in Moosimin and was on his way to Stoughton for a stop later in the afternoon.

D’Autremont then introduced Orsted, who talked of the importance of municipal and provincial governments working together on these projects and the importance of them to the community.

The municipal government has control over where the funding is spent and is approved locally allowing the community to direct funds where they are most needed.

At the conclusion, Moe held a question and answer session with local reporters where he was asked about holding the election on Oct. 26, and the premier responded that due to the efforts of Saskatchewan chief medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab and the citizens of the province, that the election can

and will be held safely, and recommended that people continue to do what has been asked of them, “create physical distance, washing hands,” as the most important things an individual can do. He also made mention that the event was held outside as a matter of safety compared to an indoor venue.

The afternoon was sunny, with a strong wind out of the west, Moe spoke for approximately 10 minutes and the event was well received by all those attending.

Jennifer Sedor excited to be Carlyle’s next mayor

By Lisa McCullough Carlyle’s new mayor is looking forward to the challenge.

Jennifer Sedor is happily taking her place at the helm of town council. Sedor is currently a librarian at the Carlyle branch of the Southeast Regional Library.

She was acclaimed as mayor on Oct. 7 after she was the only person to submit nomination forms. Former mayor Wayne Orsted elected not to run again after six years on the job.

Sedor has served two terms as councillor for the Town of Carlyle and community liaison for the museum and parks recreation. With a certificate of governance in co-operatives and a post diploma certificate in executive leadership

for non-profits, this makes her well suited for the mayoral position.

“After serving two terms as councillor for the Town of Carlyle, this seemed like a natural step. In a situation where there are new faces to the council, and those with little experience in municipal governance, I felt that it was important to continue moving forward with the leadership.” Sedor explains.

Sedor says she takes pride in being part of a town with such a strong sense of community.

“I most enjoy working with various community groups and my heart is with arts, culture and recreation,” she said.

The council in Carlyle will have a few new faces this year and Sedor expresses her feelings about this change.

“I feel positive about the opportunity to work with the next council.

We have a diverse list of names on the ballot this election and I am very interested to hear what each candidate envisions for their term.

Going forward, the new council has the task of developing the next 10year strategic plan for our community, and this is no small task. It will take vision, expertise, and integrity to develop a plan that is right for our community.”

Sedor explains that she is excited about developing the 10-year strategic plan and the plans for parks and recreation in the area.

“These are areas where members of the community will have an opportunity to be better engaged in future projects and maintenance

of current infrastructure than they have been in the past. As mayor, there is an opportunity to improve relations and communication with our ratepayers and create stronger partnerships with our neighbouring communities and rural municipality.”

Sedor went on to say.

Sedor closes by saying she believes Carlyle is an exceptionally resilient community.

“The past decade has been hard on our area in terms of growth, industry contraction, and economics (and now the unprecedented, unyielding pandemic),” she said. “Carlyle, while showing its ability to weather the storm, has not gone unscathed.

Firefighters learn valuable lessons in grain bin rescue

By Laura Kish The Kipling Fire Department, in partnership with the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA), participated in a grain entrapment rescue demonstration and training program at the Kipling Fire Hall on Nov. 20 and 21. This provided an excellent opportunity to learn about grain safety from the BeGrainSafe mobile training unit and local firefighters.

Be Grain Safe is a program designed to help save lives. From awareness-raising displays and demonstrations at farm shows to firefighter train-

ing and producer education, they reach all ages with their grain safety message: once trapped in grain, you are helpless.

Grain entrapment is extremely dangerous for the victim and the rescuers. Firefighters must use specific safety and rescue procedures to increase their chances of a successful rescue, while keeping members of their department safe. That’s why CASA has developed rescue courses for firefighters.

Firefighters from Kipling, Glenavon and Tribune learned valuable lessons in rescuing a person if ever they

were trapped in a grain bin and getting sucked down in the grain. Certified firefighter instructor Tyrone Mogenson, a firefighter with the Melville department for 30 years, was on hand to teach rescue techniques which he has been doing for the past three years.

Due to COVID-19 it was mandatory that all firefighters take a CASA online theory course prior to the hands-on training in a practical setting.

Grain bin training addressed “what if” scenarios « A14 jumping into a grain truck full of grain to have a bit of fun. Danger lurks where you’re least aware.

As well this isn’t pertinent to just grains, it applies to anything you can stack up - fertilizers, gravels, coal, anything. Anything that comes out of an auger or conveyor belt. The same concept is you have to get them out in a safe way. And that’s using panels – GSI RES-Q-Tube.

“It’s going through the thought process today,” explains Mogenson. “There’s a lot of ‘what if’ scenarios. If you have a process in mind going into a situation it might make it a lot easier as opposed to ‘Holy Smokes’ what do we do now? And who gets called when something goes sideways. It’s always the fire department to the rescue.”

“The main steps today are how we can rescue someone safely,” states Mogenson, “and understand the

hazards of the grain itself.”

The unit that the firefighters were trained in was a safe environment and was great for a training prop.

The demonstration was set up with a makeshift sixfoot wide by five-foot deep grain bin filled with grain for training purposes. Each participating firefighter was harnessed up prior to experiencing the sinking down to their chest in the grain. Once you’re in that situation and you let a breath out, your

next breath in you’ll only be able to take in half a breath.

In a very, very short time you could be in a very dangerous situation. So God forbid you sink down to your nose. So imagine if this same scenario happened in a 30-foot bin.

The motto at the end of the day is “Everybody goes home.”

Christmas concerts may not have been put on as usual this year due to COVID-19 but students and teachers still made a fantastic effort to go ahead and rehearse and dress the part for the parents to be able to watch the recorded version.

The annual Christmas Concerts have always, in the past, put everyone in the festive mood as they packed into the community centre to watch their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, nieces and nephews perform.

Yes, this year COVID-19 turned everything upside down.

Ms. Brems’ Kindergarten class were all dressed up as monkeys and were all part of the Kipling Zoo. Mrs. Kish’s Grade 1 students were part of the K-3 play as well donning costumes as zoo animals and singing We Wish You A Merry Christmas.

Mrs. Tholl’s Grade 1/2 class performed a

dance routine to Jingle Bell Rock with an animal theme donning their ugly Christmas sweaters.

The Grade 3 class, with the help of Janna Bright and her intern Julia Breitkreuz, centred their play around the Kipling Zoo with students dressed up as everything from birds to rhinos, monkeys, penguins and hyenas in their Holiday Zoobilee. A holiday is here and Chad the zookeeper is sadly stuck at the zoo.

The animals try to cheer him up so they come up with a plan to make him a Christmas present. The birds made him a feathered hat, and the cats made him a coat. The animals were so thankful that the zookeeper looked after them so well.

The Grade 4 students, with the help of their teacher Kyla White, performed a play about Santa betting all the toys in a wrestling match against Jake Frost (Jack Frost’s evil brother) because he isn't feeling himself. He loses and tries to get his toys back. He then

Every year Santa hosts a decorating competition between the different elf departments – construction, boxing and wrapping in Mr. Parley’s Grade 5 classroom. Wait, that’s not

right. The competition is at the North Pole. The goal of the competition is to help boost elf morale before the stress of the Christmas Eve deadline.

Each department feels that they need to win the competition and trophy.

the situation back under control? Mrs. Claus gets special operative elves to work together to decorate the tree. They learn that working together is the thing to do.

The Grade 6 students, with the help of their teacher Maria Kary, didn’t let COVID-19 stop them from writing their own plays and dressing the part. Weeks of practice still went into the writing and rehearsal even though they weren’t performing in front of a huge crowd. Three groups wrote their plays as follows: Evil vs Good, a play about how some brothers of Santa try to get back at Santa for being picked for being old St. Nick. However, their plans don’t go

all as planned, especially when Sherlock Holmes shows up on the scene.

Santa Gets COVID. You guessed it, Santa gets COVID, and everything starts to go wrong. Mrs. Claus and their daughter get all emotional, and the reindeer ‘disappear’ to protect themselves from COVID or get out of working, and the elves are left holding the bag to save Christmas. All they need is a miracle.

Hockey Christmas Santa saves the day when one of the players gets hurt. Who knew that Santa could deliver presents all around the world in a night and play hockey.

Grades K, 1, 2 and 5 also rehearsed their plays and filmed them for the community to view later.

Empower You Development Services: Helping businesses get better results

By Lisa McCullough Brandy East was born and raised in Carlyle.

She grew up on a dairy farm north of the town and now still resides in the area with her husband Dave and their two children Kirsten and Terran. East spent 14 1/2 years in the oil and gas industry as the superintendent of Operations East.

She has a degree from Brandon University in education and the passion for teaching flowing through her blood, but she was unsure of how she wanted to use this degree to help others.

“I just wasn’t sure what I would offer. What would be authentic?

What do companies and individuals need? There is so much information out there to address goals, results,

dreams, performance, personality types, leadership, resilience, mental health, employee engagement, etc. Where does one start?” East explains.

After thinking all of this through, East enrolled in a program called Thinking Into Results.

“I enrolled myself because I have always loved learning and growing.

I knew in my role as superintendent that, even though I was succeeding, there still had to be an easier way.

There had to be ideas and ways for me to do the job better,” she said.

“Some struggles and challenges kept popping up. I wanted to balance my life a bit more, work demands and family demands. I wanted to be a stronger decision maker, become a better strategic thinker, and be more consistent at responding to circum-

stances, rather than reacting,” East explains.

Because of her enrolment into the program Thinking Into Results, East found what she was looking for and how she wanted to move forward down her career path. She started her own business in 2020 with her company Empower You Development Services. Her business offers other companies and individuals, programs that help teach success.

“Every business would not exist without the people,” she said.

“You would just have a building, or a computer, or products sitting, if you didn’t have the people to make things operate. People are the greatest asset,” East states.

“Empower You, has a personal meaning behind the name. Essentially, every individual has a desire

Holiday Lights Contest held in Kipling

By Laura Kish The evening was fairly warm and calm on Dec. 21 to tally the votes of the Holiday Lights Contest in Kipling.

Residents had the chance to vote for their top three choices during the few weeks prior as townfolk were encouraged to keep their lights on each and every night for judging.

Starting the night was Santa Claus making his trip around Kipling waving to everyone and getting everyone in the holiday spirit. Kids and parents alike waited pa-

tiently to see Santa make his way around to their block.

Bags of groceries for the Food Bank were being dropped off steadily throughout the evening at the Town Hall while the judging was being tallied on the Christmas displays of lights.

Due to the changing public health orders, the town was unable to provide hot chocolate as was first advertised, so donations were being dropped off without the opportunity to stick around for a visit and have that drink to warm the belly.

BUYS IN USED EQUIPMENT

Taking first place with 41 votes was Karen Stefanuik at 316 Second Street, winning $75. Second place with 31 votes was Colby Sproat at 302 Third Street, winning $50. And third place was won by Tyler and Tara Carter with 28 votes at 105 Willowdale Avenue, taking home $25.

There were no honourable mentions although there were many locations in the running with outstanding decorations to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

Huge donation to Kipling Food Bank made for a Merry Christmas

By Laura Kish McMillan Motor Products had their SUV parked at Kipling’s Community Centre for anyone to stop by and bring their non-perishable food donations throughout the evening on Dec. 21, an event which coincided with the town’s light judging. And that they did, filling the vehicle with bags of food items sure to bring holiday spirit to anyone in need.

“It’ll be a yearly event,” comments Trevor Hack of McMillan Motor Products.

And the Kipling Food Bank is very grateful for the planning of this event, thanks to Dominique Sauve, staff member of McMillan’s.

“Since COVID-19 we (the Food Bank) have not been as busy,” explains Wayne Struble. A notification was put out for anyone to

“It’s just wonderful the way people respond,” adds Wayne.

“We are so appreciate for all the donations,” adds Gloria Struble. “The support is so great.”

Many volunteers come out to lend a hand on Food Bank days.

The Food Bank is very well stocked and fully functional so if you’re in need please don’t hesitate to come out. No vouchers are needed as they are no longer necessary since COVID-19 has hit.

“If you’re hungry….. come!” states Wayne.

The Kipling Food Bank is located downstairs in the Kipling Professional Building (across from the Post Office).

Gordon F. Kells High School Cougar corner Thanks to all the students (and their families) who brought in non-perishable food items for the food bank fundraiser this year. The Christmas spirit is alive and well at Gordon F. Kells (GFK).

Grade 7/8 Group 3 brought in the most food and won the sub sandwich lunch. The Grade 12 class brought in the second most food and won ice cream treats.

The Grade 10 class was third. They will also receive ice cream treats.

Thank you to the local company that delivered the food to the food bank

for us.

Also, a special thank-you goes to an anonymous donor who donated a huge load of food to be included with the school’s donation to the food bank. Your generosity is very much appreciated.

Thanks to the Student Leadership Team who managed to arrange COVID-friendly Christmas events and activities throughout December. There was a lot of laughter and though we couldn’t see them, there were a lot of smiles, too.

But heading into this new year and, in fact, this new decade, we are encouraged to hear of vaccines that are becoming available. Associated with that is the possibil-

ity that soon we may be able to gather for worship services, for social gatherings and even with our family who live just blocks away from us. Yahoo!

What is your to be or dreaming with God’s Love?

By Ken Rolheiser There is a definition of spirituality that talks of our engagement with transcendence. We take that encounter, that spiritual essence, with us as we learn to live and understand life on the material and physical plain.

The one who be-

lieves, who lives life in faith, has the opportunity to be transformed and to experience life with hope and ultimately, gratitude.

Jesus came to give us life in greater abundance (John 10:10).

And to those who are suffering and poor in their state of life, Jesus says, “I have come to bring the

good news to the poor… and to set the oppressed free” (Luke 4:18).

I was watching the 2020 World Junior Hockey game between Canada and Germany.

At some point it became painful to watch as the 16-2 score unfolded. I fast-forwarded the action, making it a point to watch the last two minutes. The German team scored their second goal and displayed the courage I had anticipated.

About dreaming, Pope Francis addressed

children and immigrant families in East Harlem on Sept. 25, 2015: “Keep smiling and help bring joy to everyone you meet.

It isn’t always easy. Every home has its problems, difficult situations, sickness, but never stop dreaming so you can be happy.”

He donated purebred lab pups to our Annual Fundraiser and truck loads of firewood for Wildlife events. He was an avid out doors man spending a lot of time in the wilderness. In his estate, he left $10,000 to our club to use for youth activities such as our Family Fishing Day, snow shoe supplies, archery and school bursaries.

“Near the chapel entrance she fell. Scarcely being able to raise her eyes, she read on the

steps of the sanctuary: You are my Beloved.”

“She put her head on her arms and listened.

Deep within her she heard, ‘You are my beloved.’ She went back to her room and fell into a deep and peaceful sleep.”

If we walk with God in our lives, we will find gratitude. We will be a match for the darkness around us. “There never was a problem that could defeat sunrise or Christmas” (from The Christmas Train 2017).

Hope is the antidote to sadness. You cannot be sad if you are grateful. Christ came into our world to bring us hope, to dispel the darkness of sin and even death. Gratitude is ours whether we are in sickness or health, in poverty or wealth.

We live on and we dream on! “Every person’s life is a fairy tale written by God’s finger.” Hans Christian Anderson.

“There is no place where God is not.” Mayo Angelou. As the saying in Carl Jung’s house puts it: “Invited or not, God is present.”

Alida weekly news Submitted by Edel Cowan Welcome back everyone. I do hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas, even if it was a quiet one, with no one coming in for a visit.

Also hopefully everyone had a good New Year’s, again it was another quiet one with minimum contact with family and friends.

Oh well, it was a very different and difficult year for many, and looks like it is here to stay for a while. Thanks to COVID – it likes to keep us under its thumb, but we shall conclude it soon I’m sure.

On the positive side there is a vaccine that will soon be knocking on our doors, and hopefully we will be able to receive an inoculation soon. I for one will be there when it is time to do so. Hip hooray for the New Year and good-bye to the old. Stay safe and keep healthy in 2021 – Happy New Year all.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Bonnie and Roy Farr and family on the death of her father Ross Curtis of Brandon, Man., on Dec. 10, 2020, at the age of 99 years.

He is survived by his wife Ethel and his three daughters, Glenda (Allan) Evans of Winnipeg, Bonnie (Roy) Farr of Alida, and Lana (Rod) Dyck of Balsacs, Alta., and their families. His funeral will be held at a later date. Condolences are extended to all family members and relatives.

Loretta Gustafson of Regina passed away at her residence on Dec. 16 at the age of 72 years.

She was predeceased by her parents Doug and Ivie Bailey of Redvers.

Loretta is survived by her husband Robert (Bob), two sons James (Holly) and Ryan (Kolene), six grandchildren and her brother Ken, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. A private celebration of Loretta’s life will be held at the Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery. Condolences are also extended to Joyce and Jackie George (Redvers), and to Gray (Edel) Cowan (Alida) as well as to numerous other relatives.

The Alida community also extends condolences to Jackie (Kent) and Bob Kosior of Oxbow on the tragic death of her son Ryan Liesch on Dec. 24 at the age of 25 years.

Young people enjoyed a campfire after some skating on the nearby slough.

Condolences are also extended to Arlene Mailhiot of Alameda, formally of Alida, and all other family members and friends. A celebration of Ryan’s life will be held at a later date.

I know there’s not much going on because old COVID is still hanging around putting a damper on everything. The young people around here are enjoying some time skating on a nearby slough. They

even had a campfire outing one day after skating – looked like a lot of fun kids – keep coming up with ideas and enjoying yourself.

The Alida Rec. Board has decided to make and sell homemade pizzas (pepperoni, ham and pineapple, cheese or loaded) as a fundraiser.

at Centre Street Grocers.

The delivery or pick-up day is Jan. 23.

Sure do hope that the New Year will bring a change as soon as possible. I am getting tired of this alone time. However for the time being please remember to continue to be careful, keeping a physical distance when necessary, to wear your mask and to wash your hands or use a hand sanitizer. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
