Carlyle’s population grows modestly the past five years

in Carlyle, I can totally relate to why young families decide to purchase their ‘forever’ homes here. We have facilities and activities here to cater to all ages and income levels, including the swimming pool, splash park, Cornerstone Family and Youth Program, gymnastics, dance class, karate, two gyms including CrossFit, the golf course, having our two beautiful lakes nearby, and so much more. I feel grateful to live in Carlyle and wouldn’t choose any other place to raise our kids.”

Performance Realty Owner Ray Boutin also commented: “As to why Carlyle’s population has seen some positive growth, I would suggest that there’s a lot of truth to the old slogan ‘Carlyle Has It.’” Upon asking a recent homeowner who was moving for a job progression, he advised that you really do not need to leave Carlyle, as everything you need is here. The Government of Canada has released its census figures for 2021, with all municipalities in southeast Saskatchewan showing nominal gains or losses since 2016.

The Town of Carlyle’s population grew from 1,508 to 1,524, a modest increase of 16 people or 1.1 per cent.

Said Mayor Jenn Sedor: “While we did not see a huge jump in numbers, our population remains stable with steady, sustainable growth. These numbers reflect a very difficult point in the history of Carlyle’s economy.

To see that there was even nominal growth during this time is a reaction of the resilience in our community. We are seeing results of a diverse economy that can withstand some heavy pressure.

“We are in a great location geographically and are attractive for tourism, agriculture, energy, hospitality and service industries. Our infrastructure has been improved and meticulously maintained ahead of many other

communities, allowing for a plentiful source of excellent drinking water even during times of drought.”

Added Sedor: “I have no doubt that our next census numbers will show larger gains in population and our current council has set plans for sustainable growth management in our community. These may have been some of the most complicated years but Carlyle is looking ahead and is ready for future development.”

Moore said: “Over the past two years, we’ve had about a 48 per cent increase in the number of sales in town year over year. This is largely due to the decrease in market value year over year as well (sales prices have dropped approximately 15 per cent since 2019).

With the combination of more affordable homes, new employment opportunities, and our amazing amenities, I foresee Carlyle’s population to continue growing.”

Kipling’s population increases by two over the past five years

By Laura Kish According to 2021 census data released last week by Statistics Canada, Saskatchewan’s population is now 1,132,505 — an increase of 3.1 per cent from 1,098,352 in 2016.

Saskatchewan’s population grew in some areas over the past five years, but not in others.

Kipling’s population in 2016 was 1,074 and 1,076 in 2021, up

by only two.

Kipling’s Mayor Pat Jackson gave her comments regarding the town’s population: “I am rather surprised that our population went only up by two people. I had thought, with the way housing is actually moving, that we would have had a greater increase than that. Alternative health care with Dr. Wendy Davis

By Laura Kish Naturopathy, or naturopathic medicine, is a form of complimentary medicine that works to understand the root cause of disease and uses a range of various therapeutics in order to help patients achieve improved health.

Dr. Wendy Davis, owner of Harmony Health Clinic in Windthorst, offers naturopathic medical health care to her patients.

Davis, being a doctor of naturopathic medicine, and her staff are committed to providing people with the highest quality care and treating the patient, not just symptoms.

Davis has been in practice since graduating in 2004, treating patients from nine to 90 years of age.

“Kids are great to deal with because they’re so resilient,” explains Davis. “They bounce back pretty quickly whereas adults

have layers of toxicity and other things over the years that we need to deal with.”

“We treat everything from a common cold to cancer and everything in between,” says Davis.

Since starting to practise in Saskatchewan, Davis feels there are a lot more patients suffering with thyroid problems compared to when she had her practice in Ontario.

“As a naturopathic doctor, I diagnosis and treat just like a conventional doctor would,” explains Davis. “For our treatment we don’t use pharmaceuticals, we use supplements, diet, lifestyle and I also do acupuncture and intravenous therapy.”

“We truly look for the root cause,” says Davis, adding, “We’re not looking to Band-Aid.” “We will treat symptoms of course but want to try to understand why the symptoms are truly there.”

“We cover digestion, diet and sleep patterns among other symptoms,” says Davis.

So why is health and wellness so important?

Davis offers her perspective: “It’s everything. Go back to the old adage… health is wealth. If you don’t feel well, nothing else matters.”

“People need a different perspective and I feel COVID has actually given people a greater appreciation of how important health is.”

“The word doctor means teacher and I do a lot of that.”

“I provide a lot of education in my practice because I think that people need to learn how to look after themselves and how to have some body autonomy.”

“You can’t always have someone else look after you. You have to learn how to do it yourself.”

Davis offers some suggestions on how a person can improve their health and wellness: “To live a healthier lifestyle.”

“It’s a matter of a lot of basic things as

well. People really need to appreciate sleep, their stress level and diet is crucial.

Davis often makes an analogy of a person’s health to an automobile.

“Compare it to putting crumby fuel in a car and expecting it to run well.”

Davis suggests one of the habits in maintaining good health is adequate sleep. Good quality sleep is very important.

At the end of the day, Davis can help you better understand your health, and empower you with the tools to take charge of your own mental, emotional, and physical wellness.

New location for Cornerstone Family and Youth

By Jenn Sedor Cornerstone Family and Youth Inc. (CFY) is excited to be moving ahead with the CFY Centre project after completing Phase 1 of our fundraising goals.

In this phase, our small room 107 space at the back of the Civic Centre will be connected to the front of the building, allowing for a community

kitchen and indoor play area for families with kids age eight and under, and a Main Street entrance.

The project is moving forward quickly and we anticipate an opening date this spring.

In future fundraising phases of this project, we will be installing a permanent indoor play structure, fencing on the south patio, shade coverage and outdoor play equipment.

CFY has been providing barrier reduced programming to Carlyle and area since 2003, with many programs being offered through the local schools, library and museum. This new space will help families in the community recognize CFY and better utilize our variety of family and youth support based programs.

Currently CFY offers parent and tot classes,

sensory reduced/supportive programming, after school programs, summer camp, youth support groups and safety programming. This new space provides an opportunity to add to the list of services we will have available t our community.

By-election makes big difference for Premier Moe

By Murray Mandryk Just as things were going very badly for Premier Scott Moe and his Saskatchewan Party government, something went very right.

Sask. Party candidate Jim Lemaigre defeated the NDP’s Georgina Jolibois in the Feb. 15 Athabasca byelection to replace long-time NDP MLA Buckley Belanger. It’s a seat that’s always been CCF-NDP or Liberal.

Yes, there were factors including low voter turnout. But politics being the bottom line business that it is, about the only thing that much matters is that Moe’s already large government caucus has added one more member while Ryan Meili’s small NDP opposition has one less.

In the course of one day, the political burden was lifted off Moe and foisted on Meili.

People in the NDP again seem to be grumbling about Meili’s leadership that survived a review vote at the party’s convention last November, with a something less than convincing 72 per cent approval.

For Meili, who has never enjoyed much popularity in the electorate at large, the Athabasca by-election has people revisiting the serious questions as to whether he can win.

For Moe, who was actually taking a serious popularity hit for the first time since becoming Sask. Party leader four years ago, an unprecedented win in the northern riding couldn’t come at a better time.

There would seem little doubt that Moe has tapped into the very popular notion that everyone is tired of the pandemic and wants to see life return to a world before vaccine passports, masking or any other restrictive measures.

It seems unlikely that — contrary to Moe’s spin — the lifting pandemic restrictions had much to do his party’s by-election election win. Far bigger factors were the 22 per cent voter turnout and the promise of a new school to a community haunted by those tragic shooting deaths six years ago.

Despite the wave of support for lifting COVID-19 restrictions — or maybe, in some ways, because of it — Moe and the Sask. Party have been sliding in popularity.

This overall slide in the opinion poll also shows 60-per-cent-plus disapproving of the government’s handling of the pandemic.

Perhaps some of this is due to those who felt Moe needed to open things up earlier, but the reality is since the fourth wave, we have simply seen higher hospitalizations, ICUs and deaths.

We enjoyed a reprieve between the fourth and fifth waves in December, but we are again seeing hospitalizations soar to record levels with medical professionals fearful that worse consequences are to follow.

And while it was a popular thing for Moe to support the initial convoy to Ottawa because it aligned with the popular anti-federal/Justin Trudeau sentiments, the behaviour of those who stayed in Ottawa and those who then proceeded to block the international border crossing has been anything but popular.

By the time Moe got around to more definitely stating “the illegal blockades must end”, the RCMP at Coutts, Alta., had discovered a weapons and body-armour cache and charged 11 with criminal offences including conspiracy to commit murder.

To be tied to supporting these demonstrators is something that won’t age well.

Combined with the problems in health care and what’s expected to be an ugly provincial budget in March, problems were mounting for Moe. But just as things were going from bad to worse, along comes a by-election that adds another seat on the government side that the Sask. Party surely couldn’t have expected.

It’s a reminder that fortunes do sometimes quickly change in politics.

How are we treating our family?

Shelley Luedtke When I was young, my family played car games on road trips.

There were classics like the license plate game and eye spy, and one we called the family game.

When it was your turn you chose a family you knew and gave the others in the vehicle information about their composition. “There is a mom, a dad, and four kids.” Guessing would ensue until someone figured out who it was.

As young children, we typically define family as those who live in a home together. Soon we add to that our grandparents, cousins and the aunts and uncles who are so important to that equation. It expands further as we experience the circle of people we aren’t related to, but with whom we share important bonds: friends, co-workers, teammates, church members and classmates.

They are the individuals who come alongside us at different times of life, if we’re lucky, and

they establish such importance in our lives we call them family.

We cherish the gift of the nuclear family; those people who were our introduction to attaching to others and being loved. Because of them, we learned what family can mean. That allows us to be thankful for those we describe as family, whether linked by DNA or not. So wouldn’t it be amazing if we recognized that we are all connected?

That we share this common experience of being part of the human race on this planet? It’s truly the ultimate in extended family.

So, how are we treating our family?

An athlete falls in the middle of a competition and is harassed mercilessly online and by pundits. A politician makes a statement some disagree with and is subjected to death threats. A young singer making his way in the music industry gets messages from strangers telling him he’s too ugly to live. That athlete has a family. She is someone’s daughter. She is someone’s granddaughter.

That politician has a wife and children. He is a dad. He is a brother.

That singer has a mom and a dad. He has siblings. He volunteers as a Big Brother.

All of these individuals have people in their lives who love them. They have families who hurt

Alida news - a busy rink

By Edel Cowan It was another successful breakfast at the rink on Feb. 13 when Kitchen Group 1 served up 40 breakfasts. It was great to see all the Redvers guys there for breakfast once again. We appreciate your support guys, keep coming. You’re always welcome. Of course the usual local ones were there as well, all seemingly enjoying their breakfasts. I know I do. Next week it will be KG 2 at the helm hoping to defeat the Breakfast Challenge record of 49.

The Alida Curling Club has plans for their coming event soon. The ladies’ bonspiel will be hosted on Feb.

26. Of course they are known to always have the “best dressed” teams in attendance at this one-day event, with only six-end games being played. If interested, register by contacting Margaret Peet at 306-485-7245 as soon as possible.

This is a long weekend coming up. Family Day on Feb. 21. Enjoy your family on this extra day off. Also I do believe it is the beginning of the February school break, so enjoy the break staff and students.

Wawota weekly news Clarence Lamontagne and his brother Mederick from Oxbow have returned home after a month-long holiday with Mark Lamontagne. They joined Mark at Surprise, Ariz., on the west side of Phoenix.

The Wawota Public Library Book Club met at the Village Inn on Feb. 7 to discuss their latest book. It was Harvest of Thorns by Corban Addison and was a revealing story about the sweat shops and the many infringements on the workers’ rights in foreign countries.

The Town of Wawota will be holding an election for one alderman. This is due to Mike Greenbank, who was on council, moving to Regina. Advance voting is on Feb. 23 and election day is March 2. There are four candidates: Jordan Black, Marley Hamilton, Corbin Klein and Gwen Robertson. It is good to see this much interest in our local politics.

Craig Olson and son Mike spent a month visiting with family in Wawota, Regina and Saskatoon, and friends in Leroy. They returned home to Bethesda, Md., last week.

The Wawota United Church held its annual general meeting on Feb. 6 during the church service. It is a yearly review of the church’s activities and finances. We look forward to sharing our worship services and our fellowship.

Congratulation to Wawota’s U13 hockey team, which includes boys and girls. They travelled to Southey on Feb. 11 and won 7-1. On Feb. 13, Southey came to Wawota for the second game. Wawota won 5-2 and are off to the third round of provincials, where they will face Redvers.

We haven’t had any card Bingo this week as our girl has been under the weather. We saved a few nickels but missed the fun.

We did have a floor curling game Thursday and it was very competitive. I don’t think we will qualify for the Olympics but it sure was a lot of fun.

On Friday, thanks to some willing helpers, we had exercises with Marlee and a singalong with Judy.

I had a surprise visit from family with a bouquet of flowers, which certainly made my day.

Kennedy Skating Club brings Broadway Musicals to the ice

By Laura Kish Saturday afternoon saw the return of the annual skating carnival for the Kennedy Skating Club. This is made possible by a group of volunteers drawn from the families of the skat-

ing students.

The club has 28 skaters of varying abilities from Wawota, Windthorst, Kennedy, Kipling and Langbank, who are coached by Katy Soroka.

coach Katy Soroka, head program assistant Morgan Debenham, and star team leader Ashlyn Dovell brought the Broadway musicals to the ice through their talented young skaters.

Program assistants including Mia Wyporowich, Haley Debenham, Abi Hanson, Leighton Syslak and Sybil Brickley helped to make the afternoon event a success by assisting the skaters to prepare for their performances.

The afternoon ice show started with the singing of O Canada while two of the skaters made a loop around the ice holding a Canadian flag.

Fans enjoyed a very well put together show with youngsters displaying their skating talents.

The show’s theme was hit songs from Broadway musicals, in which performers skated to a tune from a different musical, many being famous hits we all know, such as Rocketman, Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star is Born, to name a few.

Dressed in their checkered flannel shirts tied at the waist and blue jean shorts, one group of girls performed their well-rehearsed routine to a catchy tune Footloose.

Depicting life on the farm, these skaters – Rein Porol, Kaleena Strnad and Jentry Hanson – were dressed in appropriate costumes and performed their routine to a hit from Oklahoma.

The Lion King was a popular movie at one time. Skaters Olivia Byrnell, Olivia Werbowski and Josey Hanson donned fantastic lion costumes, hairstyles and makeup to wow the crowd in their performance on the ice.

Sticking with the 1920s theme and taking the crowd to Chicago, skaters imitated flappers donning dark dresses with a silver fringed waist, black headband and feathers. This group included Mackenzie Miskiman, Mia Wyporowich, Macey Hall, Morgan Debenham, Natalie Allan, Hazel Batters and Ashlyn Dovell.

The eventful afternoon came to an end with a grand finale by the talented skaters and their coach.

Curling club holds successful oilmen’s bonspiel

By Gord Paulley This past weekend, the Carlyle Curling Club held an oilmen’s bonspiel with 11 teams participating.

DamK Operating Ltd. won the A event, defeating the Nankivell Trucking team. The B event winners, Canadian Energy Services, upended the Faber’s Electric team.

Saturn Oil and Gas won the C event, defeating the Chapman’s Electric.

Event committee member Brandy East was pleased with the event.

“We only had 10 rinks par-

ticipate in 2020 and last year we couldn’t put on a bonspiel due to restrictions. I want to thank all those who entered, all of our sponsors, and also the Royal Canadian Legion, Rylan and Cindy Weir, and The Office Bar and Grill for serving the lunches and suppers.

“Also, a big thank you to Dennis Feduk who donated two pies and other goodies that were auctioned. We raised over $600 from his baking.”

Big Six Hockey League playoffs are underway The regular season is over and the first round playoff matchups have been finalized in the Big Six Hockey League.

The Redvers Rockets finished the regular season with the best overall record at 14-1-1, good for 29 points. Redvers entered the final week of the season in second spot, trailing the Carnduff Red Devils (13-2-1, 27 points), but Carnduff had already played all of their games, while Redvers had three games remaining.

Redvers won 8-2 over the Midale Mustangs Friday night in Redvers and Saturday in Midale. They were supposed to play the Wawota Flyers Sunday in

the regular season finale, but the Flyers, who were going to miss the playoffs anyways, forfeited the game.

First round series will be best-of-three matchups.

The top-seeded Rockets and the No. 8 Mustangs (2-13-1, five points) will meet again in the playoffs.

Game 1 is slated for Feb. 18 in Midale at 8:30 p.m., followed by Game 2 Feb. 19 in Redvers and Game 3, if necessary, Feb. 20 in Redvers. The latter two games would be at 8 p.m.

Carnduff, who won their final 11 regular season games, will be the No.

2 seed, and will face the seventh-seeded Bienfait Coalers (6-9-1, 13 points) in the opening round. Bienfait finished the season by defeating the Carlyle Cougars 6-5 in a shootout last Tuesday, and losing 7-5 to the Moosomin Rangers on Friday.

Game 1 was slated for Feb. 16 in Carnduff (results not available), and Game 3, if necessary, would be Feb. 22 in Carnduff at 8 p.m. A date was not immediately set for Game 2 in Bienfait.

The Yellow Grass Wheat Kings (11-4-1, 23 points) will be the No. 3 seed, and will play the No. 6 Oxbow Huskies (6-8-2, 14 points). The two teams

played on Friday, with Yellow Grass winning 9-1, a week after Oxbow had defeated Yellow Grass.

Nate Ferris of Yellow Grass had the best goals against average in the league at 2.85.

Game 1 was slated for Feb. 16 in Yellow Grass.

(Results not available at press time). Game 2 is Feb. 18 in Oxbow, and Game 3, if necessary, would be the following day in Yellow Grass. All games would start at 8 p.m.

The other series will be No. 4 Moosomin (115, 22 points) facing No. 5

Carlyle (8-7-1, 17 points).

Carlyle did defeat Moosomin 6-5 in a shootout on Thursday. The Cougars concluded the season with a 12-2 win over Wawota.

The series will feature the top three scorers in the league during the season. Moosomin’s Bud Holloway led the league with 45 points, on 25 goals and 20 assists.

Carlyle’s Ben Johnstone (18-24-42) was second, and Carlyle teammate Ben Gaudet (13-28-41) was third.

Game 1 will be Feb. 18 in Moosomin, Game

2 is set for the following night in Carlyle and Game 3, if necessary, would be Feb. 22 in Moosomin. All games have an 8 p.m. start time.

The Flyers wound up in last place with a 1-15 record.

In provincial play, the Red Devils routed the Assiniboia Rebels 7-2 Saturday in Carnduff in Game 1 of their best of three senior C south semi-final.

Assiniboia responded with a 7-5 win the following day in Assiniboia.

Game 3 is scheduled for Feb. 20 in Carnduff at 4 p.m.

Michelle Sinclair - owner of Certified Hypnosis Solutions

By Gord Paulley Michelle Sinclair and her husband Patrick moved to Oxbow in 2004.

They have four children, Josh, 22, Breanna, 17, William, 16, and Olivia, 14. Interestingly, all have or are now being home-schooled.

Patrick is employed as a salesman for Red Hawk Well Servicing. He also owns and operates a Brazilian jiu-jitsu school, Oxbow BJJ. Michelle Sinclair is the proud owner of Certified Hypnosis Solutions and has been on Main Street Oxbow since 2015.

Since that time, she has been a certified consulting hypnotist and in 2020 received her International Certified Board of Clinical Hypotherapists (ICBCH) designation. She is now a certified hypnosis instructor.

Hypnosis has been around for centuries and is used to alleviate depression, anxiety, weight loss, and stress. Said Sinclair, “It is such an effective tool for creating a lasting change in one’s demeanour and attitude. It lets us get rid of old negative programming that’s clouding our perceptions or motivating negative behaviours and health patterns, and replacing it with positive, life-enhancing programming that allows us not only to feel

The word hypnosis conjures up negative thoughts to many but in reality it is a proven therapeutic tool. Many people treat this procedure as a last resort when in fact it shouldn’t be. After two or three sessions of hypnosis, aka rapid therapy, hypnosis should prove to be very beneficial in improving general well-being and repeat appointments should not be needed.

Sinclair adds, “I have to come realize that many people are not aware of the tremendous benefits of hypnosis-hypnotherapy. It has changed my life and the lives of so many others as well. Hypnosis will cause you to think about things in a different

light. It helps you to get in tune with your inner self.

And to discover what it is that you truly want/need for yourself.”

It must be noted that during hypnosis, you are totally in control at all times during a session.

You will not accept things that you don’t morally agree with and the choice to change is up to you.

Sinclair guides people through the process and the action steps are yours and yours alone.

Sinclair is a professional and has helped clients overcome their problems for many years, by face to face appointments, online sessions and by telephone. She has conducted therapy sessions in many countries including Australia,

Spain, Greece and the United States. She has travelled internationally and has conducted face to face meetings as far away as Missouri.

Raymond Lamotte and his Massey Tractor collection

By Gord Paulley Raymond Lamotte and his wife of 53 years, Madeleine, are lifelong residents of the Redvers area.

For years they farmed just southeast of Redvers, raising hogs and operating a cowcalf operation in addition to grain farming.

Lamotte farmed at first with his father Harry and brother Blaine.

Raymond and Madeleine then farmed with their two sons, Darren and Corey, until they moved onto their own careers. They retired in 2010 and in 2011 built a new residence on the east side of South Broadway Street in Redvers.

The Lamottes have three children and four grandchildren.

Raymond’s great grandparents immigrated from Belgium to GrandeClairière, Man., in 1890 and went on to homestead south of Redvers by 1894. Lamotte’s daughter, Leanne Poirier, farms south of Antler and her son Craig is

therefore a sixth generation Canadian farmer.

Massey Harris farm machinery runs deep in the Lamotte family. In 1891, the Massey Manufacturing Company purchased A Harris & Son and became Massey-Harris. In 1953, they amalgamated with the Ferguson Company of the United Kingdom and became Massey Ferguson, a modern agricultural machinery manufacturer. In 1995, AGCO Corporation purchased the Massey Ferguson name and tractor lineup.

In 1951, Lamotte’s parents, Harry and Evelyn, purchased the Redvers Massey Harris Implement Dealership from Alcide Boutin and shortly thereafter constructed a larger building to operate the new business from. They operated the business until 1960 when it was sold to Ross Boutin.

This building is located on the property presently known as Redvers Agricultural Supply.

Raymond has been

purchasing toy tractors for over 30 years and attends many auctions all over North America.

While his collection predominantly consists of tractors, he also owns combines, trucks, and cars. He estimates that he has nearly 600 toy tractors, built in scale from 1/64 to 1/32 to 1/16.

Their attractive and very large basement contains rows of beautiful wood cabinets that house nothing but red Massey Harris and Massey Ferguson tractors, and other implements. There is also a smaller collection of Versatile equipment.

Around a dozen or so pedal tractors have also been restored. Additionally, there is Massey Harris signage, paintings, clocks, thermometers and rain gauges.

Everything is in immaculate condition and it is like walking back in time.

Said Raymond, “The Massey Harris brand runs deep in my blood.

Lamotte also collects Massey Harris literature and has a wide selection of catalogues , sales sheets and magazines. He proudly showed us several beau-

tifully bound books of history compiled by the ultimate Massey collector, self-taught artist and painter Johnny Filipchuk of Oakville, Ont. Naturally, these oversized books are bound in bright red. Again, everything is immaculate.

Raymond also advised us that he owns a dozen Massey Harris real tractors dated from the 1930s to the 1960s.

They are all in perfect running condition. He also owns three antique cars, a 1959 Galaxy con-

vertible, and a 1968 and 1969 Thunderbird. And he has a 1951 Chevy Massey Harris service truck that is fully restored. He takes them to various car shows during the summer months.

Now in his 70s, tractor collecting has become a passion for Lamotte and he finds it to be a very satisfying hobby. He and his wife have made a lot of friends along the way and don’t plan on retiring any time soon.

Mark was born in Arcola,SK. He was born with a heart condition that he doctored with his whole life. It didn’t stop him from living a full life. Mark grew up playing hockey, baseball and guitar lessons. In his early adult years he started playing broomball, he loved playing broomball and his broomball family. Mark had a great passion for cars and bikes.

Mark attended Carlyle school from grades 1-12. After school he achieved his Journeyman’s in Auto body and worked for Carrier’s Auto body, after his health wouldn’t let him continue that career he worked at Carlyle Auto Parts, he also worked at CMP, and Carlyle RV and Leisure, he then returned back to Carlyle Auto Parts. He had a great work family and enjoyed every customer.

He lived his last years in Manor, he enjoyed fixing and building guitars in his basement shop, and bike riding was his favourite he joined the local group and looked forward to every Wednesday and Saturday rides.

Mark loved life and touched the hearts of many.

Opening and closing our hearts

By Linda Wegner Has anything but closed roads and bridges taken place in Canada these past couple of weeks?

If so, not only have I missed it, I haven’t been able to pick up on much other news. Purposes or needles aside, I’m frankly sick and tired of blaring horns and roaring protests.

Without further comments, I got to thinking about our personal lives and the need to discern between things that need to remain closed and things that we need to re-open or keep open.

In an email sent by one reader of these col-

umns, I gleaned these comments: “Worrying doesn’t take away today’s troubles, it takes away today’s peace.”

As I read those words, I’m counselled to shut my heart and emotions to those things that rob me of peace. Does that mean pretending they don’t exist? Never. Each of us faces things, people and situations that make us want to crawl into a mental hole and pretend they don’t exist.

We can’t, but what makes the difference is opening our hearts to God’s promises and the assurance that there is peace even in the midst of pain and questions.

Carlyle RCMP report – be smart online

By Sgt. Dallyn Holmstrom Why is sharing nude and sexual photos becoming so common, accepted and even expected?

Here at the RCMP, it seems we can’t go longer than a week anymore without a boy or girl of any age demographic making a complaint involving a naked photo or video of themselves that has been shared or put on the Internet by a spouse, friend, or ex.

I will never blame a victim of a crime like this because it is not their fault. In the past I asked a female why she would share a nude photo with someone she had just started dating, and her response was that it was expected and the norm for anyone dating now to be sharing nude photos, even after only a couple dates.

This shocked and worried me and frankly I’m scared for my children growing up.

I can’t tell anyone what they do in the privacy of their own home or who they choose to share personal sensitive photos with, but I can say that once a photo goes on the internet or is shared, there is no getting it back and it is out there forever.

I also want to reach out to all the people posting and sharing sensitive, personal photos they don’t have permission to share. Before you share these photos, I want you to grab each side of your head and give it a shake. Not only is this illegal, with many legal ramifications, it also can ruin someone’s life as they know it.

Countless people have taken their own life after their naked photos have been shared or put on the internet.

There are too many of these stories to count and every one

of them is a tragedy. I have given presentations in schools about The Amanda Todd story and I encourage everyone to research her story.

Amanda Todd was a 15-year-old girl in British Columbia who took her life after being bullied and having nude photos shared online. The suspect responsible for sharing the photos was charged criminally and will be in jail for over 11 years for this and other charges.

It was a busy traffic ticket week for the Carlyle detachment area, with mostly people hitting the ditches due to poor driving conditions. Several other infractions took place with most of these infractions being for speeding. Other fines were issued for not wearing their seatbelts, failing to stop at a stop sign, distracted driving (cellphone) as well as some tinted windows infractions.

I want to take a moment to acknowledge the members of the public who thank us for everything we do, even after receiving a fine for a traffic violation. It is noticed and we appreciate your thanks. For those members of the public that are not so pleasant, we are not trying to make your day miserable, we don’t make the laws but it’s our job to enforce them.

On Feb. 7 at 2 a.m., the RCMP responded to an intoxicated male walking on Main Street in Kisbey near Highway 13. RCMP located the male and placed him under arrest.

The intoxicated male advised he left his residence when an argument took place with his spouse. He was transported and lodged in RCMP cells until he was sober.

On Feb. 8, RCMP received a call of vehicle that drove

over a pile of wood on Highway 13. The collision caused significant damage to the undercarriage and oil pan on the vehicle, which caused the vehicle to break down. The vehicle was towed from the scene to be repaired and the wood was cleared from the highway to ensure it didn’t claim any more victims.

On Feb. 10, RCMP received a complaint of a stolen dog. The caller stated his small white dog was stolen out of this vehicle while parked outside the dentist office in Carlyle. Luckily shortly after the complaint was made, the small dog returned home safe and sound.

That same day, RCMP were patrolling the area and came across a vehicle parked in the middle of the road in front of a yield sign. The vehicle’s headlights were turned off but a light was on in the interior of the vehicle. Upon further investigation RCMP determined that the female driver was impaired by drug.

She was transported to hospital where a blood sample was taken in order to confirm the driver’s impairment. The driver was also issued a $360 fine for possessing or consuming cannabis in a vehicle.

On Feb. 11, RCMP received a complaint of people doing drugs in a vehicle at the rink in Carlyle. Members attended and located the vehicle. RCMP tested the driver’s saliva which came back positive for THC (marijuana).

RCMP then transported the driver to the hospital and obtained a sample of the driver’s blood to confirm his impairment.

Several 911 misdials took place this week with the majority of people either pressing 9 to dial out of a hotel or

Photo submitted business and then pressing an extra 1, or people trying to dial 411 and hitting 911 by mistake. I know these types of accidents happen but want to try and ask people to take caution not to press 911 as police need to attend all 911 complaints.

On Feb. 13, RCMP responded to a truck and trailer that jack-knifed across Highway 13 between Carlyle and Arcola. The trailer was blocking the eastbound lane.

A local farmer showed up on scene and helped by pulling the truck and trailer back onto the road with his tractor. Good deeds like these is why you can’t beat rural small town living, with so many people willing to help one another out.

from drug and alcohol psychosis, to people suffering from depression. We want to encourage everyone to reach out for help and talk to someone if they can. No matter how bad things may seem remember that they will always get better.

Life can be very difficult to say the least. Please reach out and check in with friends, coworkers and family see how they are doing. It’s a perfectly normal question to ask people how they are doing. Don’t let people suffer in silence.
