Faces of the future: White Bear First Nations Aboriginal Head Start Center officially opens

Staff photo by Lynne Bell

White Bear First Nations officially opened the community’s Aboriginal Head Start Center, Friday, Sept. 29. The event started with a traditional ceremony and ended with a feast. Pictured at the ribbon-cutting are: (l-r) former Chief of White Bear First Nations and Elder, Brian Standingready, White Bear First Nations Executive Director, Ken Lonechild, White Bear First Nations Aboriginal Head Start Director, Sandra Lonechild, three-year-old Atarah Sparrow, White Bear First Nations Councillor Bernard Shepherd and Ron Wizniak, project manager. The event was especially meaningful as the official opening took place one day before Sept. 30, when ‘The Orange Shirt Campaign - Every Child Matters’ is held in recognition and remembrance of Indigenous children in Canada who were forced to attend residential schools.
