The Town of Carlyle upheld an annual yuletide tradition when the community’s Christmas tree was placed on Main Street,Wednesday, Nov. 22. Great food and lots of laughs at Stoughton’s annual dinner theatre Kelly Running Observer Staff

The Stoughton Swimming Pool presented their annual dinner theatre on Friday, Nov. 24, and Saturday, Nov. 25, with a second performance this weekend, Dec. 1 and Dec. 2. This year funds raised for the event will be given to all organizations which aided in the efforts to run the event: Stoughton Daycare, Playschool, Drop-in Centre, Rink and Pool Board, and the Soccer Club.

This year’s play, “Insane with Power,” by Scott Haan is an intelligent and funny look at a group of superheroes who have decided the best way to avoid suspicion is to pretend to pretend to be insane and live in an insane asylum. Here they come up with ridiculous back stories regarding their origins and when a reporter stops in for a story on the quirky characters, she is found to – despite their actions – be suspicious of the group.

Aaron Walbaum plays Speed Freak, Rochelle Huriet is Dim Bulb, Terri Stocker portrays Mental, Les Griffin is the reserved Kevin, Remy Gilbertson plays the reporter Lois Lancaster, and Louise Hislop is Dr. Eisner. The hilarious group did a fantastic job and had the crowd laughing all night long.

Danielle Hoffman was the director this year, while she and Louise Hislop took on the duties of stage manager as well.

The meal and volunteer committee consisted of Colleen Andris, Jocelyn Raynard, and Danica Milatz-Donnelly; bar service was directed by Derek Hoffman; costumes, props, and decorations were done by Susan Aldred and Shirley Coderre; hair/ make-up was by Taure Brigden and Lauren Lyke; and set, sound, and lights were done by Tom Sangster, Matt Sangster, and Dan Coderre.

It was truly a community effort in hosting the event with supper sponsors including Farrell Agencies, Stoughton Meat Market and Family Foods, Stoughton Credit Union, and Coderre Construction.

Sponsors for the hall rental, set, and props were the R.M. of Tecumseh, Stoughton Co-op, Goudy Transport, Poplar Tree Inn, Cindy and Carl Breault, Crossroads Inn and Bar, Stoughton Vet Clinic, New Hope Pharmacy, and Stoughton Subway. Thus, all proceeds from ticket sales to the performances will be donated to the various organizations involved in the production.

The more the merrier: Redvers to welcome all to Winterfest Lynne Bell

Redvers will hold its first-ever Winterfest on Saturday, Dec. 16. The community is expanding its traditional Santa Claus parade and hopes to make this new, townwide event an annual celebration, according to committee member, Christina Birch.

“Redvers previously had a Santa parade and we thought we’d expand on that this year,” says Birch. “We hope that this will become an annual event.”

Birch says the committee is currently in the planning process,

but promises Winterfest will have activities for all ages.

“Redvers School has kindly agreed to host a Christmas movie matinee in the afternoon and of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there,” she says. “There will be public skating from 2 to 4 p.m. at the rink and a town-wide scavenger hunt.”

“The Golden Age Centre will have musical entertainment and carolling in the afternoon, if anyone is looking for some indoor entertainment - and we have some really talented local singers who will be there,” adds Birch.

“Our local businesses are on board with special promotions and we’re also planning a Twinkle Tour of local Christmas lights.”

“And of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas in Redvers without our Santa Claus parade.”

“We want to provide a fun and festive day for all of Redvers and the surrounding communities,” says Birch. “We’re planning a day where there is something for everyone and we welcome anyone who wants to, to attend.”

The Zoning Bylaw establishes Zoning Districts which regulate permitted, discretionary, and prohibited principal and accessory uses of the land in the Town of Redvers, as well as provides development permitting processes.

AFFECTED LANDS All land within the corporate limits of the Town of Redvers, as shown on the Future Land Use Map and Zoning District Map contained within this notice, is affected by the new Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw.

Southeast College: Fueling the Future Lynne Bell

A cross-section from area communities responded to Southeast College’s invitation for input in shaping the school’s direction for the next five years.

Carlyle is one of six communities in which Southeast College conducted open focus groups, asking residents how the educational institution can best serve students in rural areas.

The Carlyle consultation took place Thursday, Nov. 23 at the Ramada Inn. “We’re calling for community involvement in shaping our strategic plan for the next five years,” says the college’s President and CEO, Dion McGrath. “On June 30 (2018), our current strategic plan ends and Carlyle is one of six communities where we are holding meetings like this, so we can best serve our students. The others are Assiniboia, Indian Head, Weyburn, Moosomin and Estevan.”

Southeast College specializes in providing “learn where you live” education and training opportunities to southeast Saskatchewan communities and aims to be flexible and responsive to the needs of rural students - many of whom are unable to relocate to Regina or Saskatoon to further their education.

“I think Southeast College provides high value providing access to education to people who live locally,” says board member Ray Boutin.

Peer counsellor Myrna Shaw agrees.

Shaw works with high school students throughout this part of the province and says that Southeast’s local and/or distance education options potentially “provide great value to lots of kids. Not everyone is able to move to Regina or Saskatoon to take a course.”

“Fewer kids are going away to school because of the expense,” explains Shaw, adding that whether a student is pursuing a trade or a university degree, being able to study at home and/or work while pursuing post-secondary education is a welcome option for many young people in rural Saskatchewan.

Realtor and parent Tracey Nelson agrees.

“It comes down to what families can afford,” she says. “Education can be very expensive, so if a student can stay at home for part of their education, that helps to keep costs down.”

Southeast College also facilitates training and certifications that enable employees in various industries to seek further training within their fields. Nikki Dickie of Weyburn-based Panther Drilling says “The college’s instruction in practical work is ideal.

We have people who come to ready to work with all of their certifications and tickets.”

The concerns of retirees also emerged during the discussion.

George Anderson - representing the Carlyle Lions - said retirees often seek a second career, while retiree and “lifelong learner” Linda Aalbers of Manor added: “Just because you get

that little brown envelope in the mail doesn’t mean you stop learning.”

Richard Krebiel of Kisbey stated that the college’s offerings could potentially fill gaps in two areas - that of providing training for young people seeking to replace retiring tradespeople such as plumbers, carpenters and electricians - as well as providing education in emerging areas of study, such as solar technologies and First Nations issues.

Southeast College provides in-person and online classes which include: industry and safety training, adult education (including GED testing and courses), post-secondary courses, English language training and a variety of continung education courses.

Individuals, businesses and organizations can also make a tax-deductible donation to the college, which will help fund scholarships and bursaries to deserving students.

“This consulation is a prudent use of our public funds,” says Boutin. “Southeast College coming out to our communities and seeking the opinions of the people who will use what is in effect, our local campus, shows that they are in touch with what students in our area want and need.”

Pee Wee AA Bruins make good on their fines The Estevan Westmoreland Coal Peewee AA Bruins turned their team fines into a community donation that will make a big difference to people in southeast Saskatchewan.

Players from last year’s team made a donation of $363 to Envision Counselling and Support Centre. The team was made up from many players from the Southeast, just as Envision has offices in four locations in the Southeast.

Throughout the course of the season last year, the players were fined for infractions such as forgetting their socks or missing a practice, and the total pool of funds was donated to Envision Counselling and Support Centre.

“We are so pleased to be the recipient of a donation from a hockey team made up of young men.

This team chose a charity that works with families and youth, and tries to improve lives in our many rural communities in our region,” says Tania Andrist, Resource Development Coordinator.

Last year, the Westmoreland Coal Peewee AA Bruins drew players from locations such as Redvers, Manor, Bienfait, Carnduff, and Estevan, so the two

“When they made the donation, we were able to say a few words to the boys regarding Envision and what we’re about. They’re at the age where they’re starting to get into dating, so we talked a bit about healthy relationships and healthy choices.”

Andrist says the players are role models in their

communities, and by making a donation to an organization like Envision, they’re showing an awareness of others who may be struggling with relationships or family crisis.

“We don’t usually think of hockey players getting in touch with their sensitive side, so it’s really great to see this kind of awareness at a young age,” Andrist says.

The Carlyle RCMP detachment dealt with several files from Thursday, Nov. 16 through Thursday, Nov. 23.

911/False alarm A call to 911 was deemed to be a misdial.

An alarm went off in error in the Carlyle area.

Alcohol-related offences An intoxicated individual was removed from a residence and driven to another residence by police.

Break and enter A break-in at a business in the detachment area is still under investigation by RCMP. Carlyle RCMP are currently investigating a possible break and enter at a residence north of Arcola. This investigation was complicated by persons who attended at the scene and interfered with the RCMP investigation.

“Public safety is paramount in any situation,” says Staff Sgt. Darren Simons of the Carlyle detachment.

“We ask that the public obey and follow direction provided by the police.”

Criminal harassment Police are curently investigating an incident of criminal harassment in the Carlyle area.

Fire RCMP assisted Carlyle Fire & Rescue at a fire in the Carlyle area.

Mental Health Act Carlyle RCMP dealt

with files under the Mental Health Act this week.

Theft RCMP received a report of gas stolen from a vehicle in Manor.

Traffic offences/Collisions A motorist struck and killed a deer.

An motorist received a warning from RCMP members when they failed to stop when approached by an emergency vehicle.

RCMP have received reports of individuals without permits parking in spots reserved for those with handicapped parking permits. Police ask that drivers be mindful of where they park.

RCMP received a report of a driver “doing doughnuts” at a rural address near Carlyle.

This individual was given a warning by police.

An individual was fined $280 and received six points on their li-

cence for using a cell phone while driving.

Three vehicles were stopped this week by police for motor vehicle insurance violations. The fine for this offence is $580. Police also issued two fines of $230 each for intersection-related offences.

Members issued several speeding tickets within the detachment area this week, with fines reaching $192.

An individual failed to produce a driver’s licence at the request of a police officer.

Police also issued fines and/or warnings for the following offences: failure to wear a seatbelt, operating motor a vehicle with inadequate speedometer, a windshield in need of repair, an obstructed licence plate, an inadequate licence plate (where letters and numbers were difficult to read), window tint, inadequate

tail lights, inadequate headlamps and inadequate trailer lights. In addition, one motorist also failed to display a registration permit in the window of a large vehicle and another failed to produce a vehicle inspection certificate.

An individual displayed the wrong licence plate on their vehicle.

Uttering threats Police are investigating a report of someone uttering threats in Carlyle.

Well-being check Carlyle RCMP conducted one well-being check within the detachment area this week.

Body checking in hockey: what’s the right age to start?

Hockey is the sport that all Canadians love… whether you play it or simply enjoy watching it, it’s a game loved by most everyone in our country.

When you think about the game it has something for everyone. It has a massive amount of finesse: skating, Kelly Running puck handling, etc… but, it is Observer Staff also a very physical game with body checking and battles along the boards.

In 2013 the physical aspect of the game was taken away until bantam – so 13-years-old. The reason? To avoid concussions and bad hits in younger levels of the game. However, if rules are taught properly at a young age and enforced by coaching… wouldn’t that mean more clean hits on the ice and less concussions?

In an article from Aug. 12, 2013 in Hockey News, Ken Campbell, brought to light Matthew Kostuch’s experience at 10-years-old playing AAA youth hockey, being hit into boards in front of a ref, after an opposing player chased him down across the ice “like a predator.”

I don’t think the issue in that instance was really that body checks were allowed… but how did that kid who “chased him down from the other side of the ice like a predator” think it was acceptable to do that?

Concussions can happen in pretty much any sport. One of the sports with a high number of concussions is actually a non-contact sport… volleyball. The skills to avoid concussions at that level? Teach them how to do proper controlled falls and roll out of your momentum while keeping your head safe as well as to protect your face so a hard it doesn’t rattle your noggin.

So, would it not make sense to teach kids at a young age how to properly body check, how to properly take a hit, and that it is unacceptable to go after an individual in the way that Kostuch was gone after?

I understand that hockey is a sport which can get people angry and that when emotions come into play it’s difficult to see anything other than red. But, teach those kids how to control that and focus themselves, how to do a proper body check, and punish them don’t praise them for doing something they shouldn’t be doing on the ice.

Make it zero tolerance for kids like the one that “chased” Kostuch down, make it a serious consequence like being booted for the season, or if there’s charging like that change the rules to allow refs to stop the play before it happens in some way?

As a coach I do understand both sides to the story – I can completely understand why it was banned from anything younger than bantam; but, I honestly think the younger you teach a kid the proper way to do something the better they will be at doing it. And as long as they’re encouraged to be good sports and not goons on the ice, they will be.

So, maybe it’s the mentality surrounding body checks and charging people in hockey that needs to change. Clean up the game by making the consequences more serious for being a goon, but teach kids proper technique young and it will be engrained in them early on.

Eating your turkey . . . and your words It’s the time of year that puts people in an increased number of social gatherings with family, friends and co-workers for holiday celebrations. Last year we heard about American families refusing to get together for Thanksgiving, two weeks after the Presidential election, because they would not sit at the same My Outlook table as anyone who supported Shelley Luedtke politics they didn’t agree with.

Follow-ups to these stories indicate some families are speaking again. Others are not.

Miss Manners famously declared there are certain topics that should be avoided around the dinner table, with religion, politics, income, and the food people choose to eat or decline topping the list.

There’s something very tempting about side-stepping hot button issues, but what are we losing out on as a result?

There was a small coffee house at the university I attended where I liked to go and study occasionally. It was a welcome alternative from the quiet of the library with the best part being access to a steady supply of Diet Coke. You never knew what students or professors might come in to grab a coffee and find a seat, and more often than not it resulted in great conversations. Vastly different opinions would be espoused on whatever the issue of the day might have been. We got to say what was on our mind on topics that mattered to us. We didn’t always agree with one another but it gave us a deeper understanding and insight into the people teaching us and those taking classes alongside us. Not once did we shout at each other, call each other names or throw punches.

A survey on American college campuses revealed the majority of students believe it is okay to disrupt a speaker or shut down their presentation to silence them. One in five said they would endorse the use of violence to prevent a speaker from presenting a message they didn’t like. 54% say the climate on their campus prevents some people from saying what they

really believe because others find it offensive.

Canadian universities are seeing similar trends.

An anti-abortion group on a large Canadian campus is fighting a $17,500 security fee that was charged to them to set up a display after protestors in a previous year caused problems. A teaching assistant was brought before her school’s administration after showing a video about a professor who still addresses students by ‘he’ or ‘she’ instead of the required gender neutral ‘they’, ‘zir’ or ‘ze’. Her violation? She stayed neutral in the ensuing discussion and a complaint was launched against her for being transphobic.

One group had 3,000 of its posters torn down. Another group saw their event abruptly halted when protestors pulled a fire alarm. A male student who started a Men’s Issues Awareness Society was denied official status because it was deemed anti-feminist and would make female students feel unsafe. (in spite of the fact women make up the majority of the group).

Fights have broken out causing injuries to students and faculty, forcing speeches to be cancelled.

Guests have been removed from panel discussions, causing one professor to say campuses are trying to prevent different viewpoints from being expressed in the same venue.

There are those who want to take away any opportunity to speak--to silence those who disagree.

Others are afraid to wade in until they know who is willing to go knee-depth alongside them. But think of what we’re missing out on because we’re afraid to…talk. Or perhaps too many just don’t want to listen. But if we aren’t willing to expose ourselves to ideas different than ours, how can we expect the opportunity to share our ideas in turn? Why would anyone listen to me if I refused to listen to them?

Conversations in coffee houses, in government, on campuses and around the holiday buffet require manners to be sure. But perhaps the ones that matter most don’t demand avoiding tough topics, or agreeing with everything you have to say, but instead wholly believing you deserve a place at the table.

That’s my outlook.

Fortunately, you don’t have to worry all your life.

There are steps you can take to better appreciate your financial status, says Courcelles. The first one is to create or update a financial plan. Having a detailed plan that includes looking at your entire portfolio, from investments and real estate to a business you might own, will give you a better idea of how much you have.

Creating a budget is key, too, even for wealthier Canadians.

Securing sufficient insurance, such as life, disability, critical illness and long-term care, can also help remove some financial uncertainty, says Courcelles.

This kind of planning may not radically change your already healthy financial landscape, but seeing the numbers written down on paper may make you feel more comfortable.

A spay procedure in a female animal means that your veterinarian surgically removes her ovaries and uterus, while the animal is under general anesthesia.

A castration procedure entails the surgical removal of the testes in a male animal, while the animal is under general anesthesia.

We recommend having the procedure performed as early as six months of age, but recommend it being done even if your animal is older. These are very routine surgeries that your veterinarian will have performed hundreds of times.

While there are risks to every surgical procedure, these are rare and the risks of not performing these particular procedures can be much worse. The only

reason not to perform either procudure is if you plan to breed your animal.

Otherwise, the benefits of neutering outweigh the negatives.

A common complication we see in un-spayed female dogs is a condition called pyometra, which means an infected uterus, but once it gets to this point, the surgery is more difficult and the outcome is more guarded. Another common disease that develops in un-spayed females is breast cancer. Every heat cycle that a female goes through increases her chances of developing breast cancer by 10 percent, so spaying before a female animal starts heats cycling is your best defense against your pet developing mammary cancer. When breast cancer develops, we need to surgically remove the mammary tissue, but the chance of an animal surviving the cancer is very small.

An un-spayed female is also at risk of developing

ovarian, uterine and cervical cancer.

There are also risks to leaving your male animal un-neutered. One problem that can develop is prostate gland trouble. This can develop as a prostate infection or prostate cancer, and treating these conditions is more complicated and more costly than the original castration surgery. A common cancer associated with un-neutered males is sertoli cell tumour, which is a tumour that grows in the testicle. Un-neutered male animals can also develop tumors around their anus due to high testosterone levels, which can be malignant in nature.

The cost of having our animals spayed or neutered may seem high at the time, but it could save your pet from devastating disease and an even more expensive medical procedure for your pet down the line.

Cougars host back-to-back games

The Carlyle PureChem Cougars were defeated at home as they hosted the Midale Mustangs on Friday, Nov. 24 and the Carnduff Red Devils on Saturday, Nov. 25.

The Cougars’ 2-1 loss to Midale was a closely-fought contest, with both teams netting

one goal each in the first period. Brett Turgeon scored the Cougars’ sole goal, assisted by Kaelen Thompson, while Evan Kessorling scored for the Mustangs, assisted

by Braden Kmits.

The following evening, the Purechem Cougars hosted the Carnduff Red Devils at the Carlyle Sports Arena, with Carnduff winning 6-2.

Kruz Wilson minded the net for the Cougars, while Cody Dumaine was in goal for the Red Devils.

Carnduff opened up scoring in the first period with a goal from Brandon Trask, with assists from Nico Anderson and Shawn Gallant.

During the second period, each team netted two goals, with the Cougars’ Cooper Fox scoring both for Carlyle. Fox was assisted by Brent McLean and Clayton Geiger on the first goal and Clayton Geiger and Mark Shaw on the second. Saturday, November 18 saw the Cougars travel to Moosomin for their first tournament of the year.

Playing the 8:00 am game did not bode well for the Cougars as they came up on the short end of a 6 to 3 score versus a very strong Elkorn team. The team next faced another strong team from Indian Head which saw the team lose by a score of 4 to 1. On Sunday the team was back at it but this time they played a strong game from start to finishing winning the game 7 to 2 versus the team from Fox Warren.

With the win over Fox Warren the team headed to the C side Championship where they faced the home town Moosomin Rangers. The Cougars poured it on this game winning the C side by a score of 9 to 5.

The Cougars next league game was on Wednesday, November 22 as the faced the Arcola/Lampman Combines. Arocla/Lampman started out quickly scoring one minute into the game but that seemed to wake up the Cougars. The Cougars responded with 5 goals in the first by Chase Robertson, Tyrell Dixon, Kale Ardnt, Kaden Piper, and Max Waugh. They continued their strong play in the second scoring 10 more goals (Chase Robertson, Jakson Humpries (2), Mason Barta (2), Walker Porter, Mitch Himmelspach, Porter Barnett, and Max Waugh (2)). The

third period ended with the Cougars scoring 4 more goals by Jakson Humpries, Max Waugh, Chase Robertson, and Mason Barta. The Final score was Cougars 19 and the Combines 1.

Friday, November 25 saw two undefeated teams face each other in Kipling. The Royals came out flying scoring two goals within the first 7 minutes but the Cougars responded with one from Max Waugh assist going to Tyrell Dixon. The Royals got one more five minutes later but the Cougars scored a late one by Chase Robertson assisted by Kaden Piper and Jakson Humpries. After one period of play the Royals led the Cougars 3 to 2. Three minutes into the second period of play the Royals made it a two goal lead and the teams headed into the third with the score being 4 to 2 in favor of the Royals. Eight minutes into the third the Cougars scored when Walker Porter backhanded it from the blue line and the puck found its way into the net. Kipling added one more half way through the third and the Cougars could not get another one past the Kipling goalie.

The final score ended up 5 to 3 in favor of the Royals.

The team started the season off with three wins in a row - at home on Nov. 4 versus Oxbow 2 (6-3) and then on the

Gushue, Jones best bets for curling trials’ wins

Bruce Penton Question Period in Ottawa this week is going to feature this puzzler: Who will win the men’s and women’s Olympic curling trials and represent Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, in February?

The answer will come Sunday, after a week of furious play featuring nine teams in each competition who went through gruelling qualifying sessions to make it this far. And let’s

face it: the teams that wear the Maple Leaf on their Olympic sweaters are nearly guaranteed a medal — likely gold — because Canada is the world’s No. 1 curling nation.

If the curling gods rewarded the teams that have been most dominant in the past two years, wearing the crowns Sunday will be teams skipped by Brad Gushue of Newfoundland and either Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg or Rachel Homan of Ottawa.

Gushue has Olympic experience, winning gold back in 2006. Edmonton’s Kevin Martin, now retired, won gold for Canada in 2010 and Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie made it three golds in a row for Canada in 2014.

SPORTS The very next day the Cougars were home for their first home game of the year. Carnduff was in town and they came out flying and took the lead over the Cougars five minutes into the first. Jakson Humpries (assist to Mitch Himmelspach) tied the game up and with 30 seconds left in the first Mitch Himmelspach scored on a breakaway to give the Cougars a one goal lead heading into the second

period.

Himmelspach scored again earlier in the second (assist to Walker Porter) but the Red Devils quickly responded making it 3 to 2 for Carlyle early in the second. The Cougars poured it on scoring five more second period goals by Mitch Himmelspach (3) and Tyrell Dixon (2) – assists from Chase Robertson (3), Max Waugh and Jakson Humpries. The Cougars headed to the third with

an 8 to 2 lead and they would continue the scoring with four more in the third - Chase Robertson (2), Porter Barnett and Mason Barta (assists to Mitch Himmelspach and Porter Barnett).

The Cougars would win this game by a score of 12 to 2 and outshoot the Red Devils 64 to 22. The next action for the Carlyle Pee Wee Cougars is December 2 and 3 as they host their home tournament.

Jacobs is back in the field in Ottawa this week, but Gushue — who won last year’s Brier and world championship and has been a dominant force on the World Curling Tour this year — is the overwhelming favourite.

Other men’s teams with a flicker of hope of upsetting Gushue are Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen and two-time world champion Kevin Koe of Calgary. Others in the field are Reid Carruthers of Winnipeg, Steven Laycock of Saskatoon, John Epping of Toronto and the two rinks who made it into the Ottawa field in a pre-qualifying event in P.E.I. a couple of weeks back — John Morris skipping Jim Cotter’s Okanagan rink, and youthful Brendan Botcher of Edmonton.

Katelyn and Jordan Ethier welcomed a son on Nov. 16. He has been named Jericho Huxley Joseph.

Shirley Corkish has returned home after spending several days at Cottage Grove, MN. She enjoyed an American Thanksgivings with Jeff and Laura Corkish, Owen, Addie and Mason. She also attended several of the grandchildren’s hockey games.

Morley and Joan Hamilton, Roland and Ardith Hamilton of Winnipeg, and Garnet and Erma Hamilton of Lloydminster met in Moose Jaw last weekend. They enjoyed a weekend at the Moose Jaw Mineral Spa. Bertha Lewis has sold her farm and has recently moved to Calgary. Murray and Susan have purchased the farm. They will be going through a grad-

ual move throughout the winter with their children, Bradley and Carlee. We wish them all well in their new homes.

So many books, so little time. I have read many, many books by James Patterson and friends. I enjoyed his earlier books more than some of the latest.

Although they are fast paced and keep your interest they kill so many people off, sometimes main characters. However, “The Black Book”(James Patterson and David Ellis) is an exception. In it, Billy Harney and his twin sister Patti are born to be cops. Billy plays by the rules. After a raid on a brothel the black book is missing. Everyone is looking for it in hopes that it will help solve a murder.

Word has been received of the peaceful but unexpected passing of Keith Allison on Nov. 25. More information next week.

Tracy Peterson, his friend Carrie and her son Nathan (all of Calgary) were visitors from Nov. 17 to 20 with his parents Ben and Marcelle Peterson and also with his siblings in the area.

A baby shower in honour of little Fredrick Paul, infant son of Allan and Jackie Krepakevich was held on Nov. 20 at the home of Marcelle Peterson with invited guests in attendance.

Little Fredrick received many cute outfits and useful gifts.

Murray Cowan, Estevan spent a week at the farm visiting with his parents Gray and Edel and doing some hunting before he headed home on Nov. 26. Adam Cowan (Estevan) also came to the farm on Saturday evening and spent a few hours hunting on Sunday. They both had an unsuccessful hunt.

Shelly Cowan and daughter Ainsley travelled to Minot on Nov. 24 to spend the weekend visiting the Nilsen family during their Thanksgiving weekend, returning home on Sunday.

On Nov. 25 Marcelle Peterson spent some time at the Redvers rink watching her grandsons, Nathan Peterson and Carson Longphee who were participating in their hockey games.

Following the games the families returned to Alida for a pizza supper – attending were Bob, Deanna and Nathan Peterson (Weyburn), Joanne, Brad Longphee and family (Storthoaks).

Activity at the Golden Gate Centre is coming into full swing now for the winter season.

This past week (Nov. 20 to 25) was the annual Agribition days in Regina, and there were quite a few locals who travelled to Regina to take in the event for a day or two. It seemed to be another successful Agribition.

Congratulations and best wishes to Garrett Ball and Natasha Osmond (Airdrie, AB) who were married on Nov. 25 at Allegra Playcar, Mexico. Among those who attended the wedding were Christine and Randy Kendall (Alida), Derek and Paige Farr (Gull Lake), Brock and Megan Rutledge (Carievale), Natasha’s family from Newfoundland, as well as some friends and relatives from Alberta.

Get well wishes for a speedy recovery is extended to Aaron Ball (Regina) who had the misfortune of breaking his ankle. He is spending his recovery time here at home with his parents Jean and Garnett Ball.

However I did manage to get a few lights put up outside around the house. Regardless one will have to be ready like it or not, as Christmas comes whither one is ready or not.
