There was a buzz around Bourassas as the team from E. Bourassa & Sons held a two-day meet and greet in Carlyle to introduce the nearly 100-year-old company to communities in this corner of Saskatchewan.

According to one of the owners of the familyowned and operated company, the 20,000 squarefoot facility currently under construction on the west side of Carlyle will be open for business in time for this spring’s seeding.

“We expect construction to be wrapped up by the first week of March,” says owner and general manager, Kurtis Bourassa. “We’ll be opening the doors to our customers in this area by the last week of March or at the very latest, by the first week of April. We will be open for seeding 2018.”

The 20-acre Carlyle site will be the location for Bourassa’s fifth store. The company was founded

by Emile Bourassa in Radville in 1924, where the first Bourassa’s store supplied coal and wood. Later, Massey Harris, John Deere and Oliver Cockshutt farm equipment was added to the merchandise mix.

Since then, the Bourassa family has opened locations in Assiniboia, Estevan, Pangman and Weyburn, as well as maintaining the original Radville store. The four company partners (all great- grandchildren of Emile Bourassa) recently made the decision to move Bourassa’s Estevan store to Carlyle.

“We’re fourth-generation owners,” says Kurtis.

“I’m the general manager. My brother Dan Jr. is the general sales manager; Doug manages our Assiniboia store and our sister Diane is the corporate controller. All four partners actually work in the dealership and the values passed down to us from past generations are still as important to us as they were in the beginning, almost 100 years ago.”

“With 20 acres, our location in Carlyle has room to grow,” explains Kurtis. “Eventually, we’ll bring in excess of 20 jobs here.”

“We want local boots on the ground,” he adds.

“Right now, we’re looking for a store manager, a service manager and a parts manager. That management team will report to me,” he says. “We’ll also be hiring parts techs and service techs.”

“We’ve also used a lot of local contractors for this store,” says Kurtis. “Our company slogan is ‘Where People Make the Difference’ and that’s really important to us. Our employees at all of our stores have close ties to family, to agriculture and to their communities.”

“That’s important, because we don’t just sell a product. We sell an experience and we create a relationship and bring our customers into our family.’

“We are very excited to be opening the store in Carlyle and we’re looking forward to becoming part of the community in Carlyle,” says Kurtis.

“We’ve had a very good response so far from the community and lots of incoming support welcoming us coming in.”

It’s an early deadline once again (Thursday 13 ), therefore not that much news has been sent to me, but will try to put something together. This comes out in the Dec. 28 issue and the regular deadline again on Monday, Dec. 17 for the Dec. 21 issue. Then it’s another early deadline again on Dec. 27 for the Jan. 4 issue. I hope I’ve got that all sorted out and haven’t confused everyone. Just remember folks to keep me posted in whatever and whenever there are happenings that you and your family may be involved or what’s happening in the area and I will do my best in seeing that it gets into the paper to the nearest date that comes to print.

Do hope that you were able to attend the School Christmas Concert that was of interest to you. Those little ones usually put their full hearts into their performance putting pride and joy into the face of their family members. Enjoy your holidays everyone – school resumes on Jan. 7, I do believe. See you around in the New Year.

We will be starting on the next 365 days and here’s hoping that they will be filled with happiness, joy and prosperity for each and every

one of you in 2019.

I will once again try to keep you, the readers up to date on happenings in and around Alida for the next coming year, as long as the local folks will keep me informed on news. I’m just not able to call or text everyone separately. Yelling on the mountain

By Linda Wegner Several years ago, I read a Facebook message, that went like this: “Abby was very excited about her new Christmas piano music. She told me

all about it on the way home....’Mom, I got the music for Come and Yell on a Mountain!’...

“Umm,” her Mother replied, “Do you mean Go Tell it on the Mountain?”

Abby says: “Oh, yah, I think you’re right.”

When I think about it, I like Abby’s version better because, in the midst of all the pain of our individual and global worlds, we have a lot of things to celebrate. Depending on individual personalities, quiet “yells” or exuberant shouts of thanks are justified when we think of the freedoms

we still possess: Not only are girls free to get an education, they’re encouraged to pursue levels of skills and leadership unheard of just a few decades ago; faith groups of every sector are still able to meet freely; and not only that, McDonalds, Starbucks and Timmies operate on as many corners as consumer demand and local zoning regulation permits.

Told you there were lots of different things to yell about.

Sadly, however, not all yell-worthy things are good: For too many, the yelp of pain when you stub your toe or

The Redvers Rockets made hockey history at home, Saturday, March 24 as they captured the Big Six Championship after a 2-1 win over the Carnduff Red Devils. The Rockets won the best-of-seven final with a four-game winning streak. Team manager James Duncan said of the team’s triumph: “It’s the first time ever that the Big Six Championship was won by Redvers. In the league we have now, there are a lot quality hockey players and teams, so it takes a very, very good team to win the Big Six this year and this year, we have that team.” (See story on page 10)

Some RCMP history Submitted by Staff Sgt. Darren Simons Carlyle RCMP Detachment In 1873 the North West Mounted Police was founded. In 1904 we were re-titled the Royal Northwest Mounted Police and in 1920 we became the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Corporal John Geoghegan, an original Member of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police, is buried in at the Sutherland Graveyard just north and east of Carlyle.

Constable Douglas Hill is buried at the Mair Graveyard.

He has several relatives that remain in the RCMP. Corporal Donald Harvey is buried in the Arcola Graveyard.

He was shot and killed in the line of duty in Beaverlodge Alberta in 1967.

As for our present Detachment, we have Corporal Jeff Smoliak who is related via his mothers side to Constable James Gorrie.

Moe has reason to be comfortable in 2019

By Murray Mandryk No politician should ever get too comfortable, especially one thats barely a year into his new job.

Things in politics can change rapidly for a new premier and leader like Scott Moe. Given that he inherited a decade-old government with more than its share of deficit, debt and spending issues included questionable investments in the Global Transportation Hub (GTH) and the Regina bypass, there are all that many more reason for Moe to be cautious.

Finally, one might think that what insecurities Moe might have would be enhanced by the reality he was taking over from the popular Brad Wall.

But all that said, there are likely few leaders in Canada right now in a more enviable position than Scott Moe going into 2019.

Here is why: For starters, its increasing clear that Moes Sask.

Party government does seem to digging its way of its deficit/balanced budget mess. When it presents its 2019-20 budget in March, it is expected to serve notice that it has accomplished that.

Notwithstanding the debt issues, if Moe can demonstrate fiscal competency that seems to have gone missing in the Sask. Party government, it would be a major victory coming at a time when the Saskatchewan economy continues to go through a major downturn.

What’s also to Moes advantage is that wont have to go the polls in 2019, having set the next election date for Oct. 26, 2020.

That affords him additional time to work on a better budget path and hope for and economic turnaround leading into the 2020 election.

But the extra time in 2019 before a provincial election may be of great value to Moe for another reason.

Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will go to the polls in 2019 and that affords Moe a few added advantages.

It allows Moe to carry on his popular campaign opposing the federal carbon tax against an unpopular Prime Minister in this province. This seems to be a no-lose situation.

Should Trudeaus Liberals pull out another victory, it is likely to reinforce what many in Saskatchewan dislike about his government, much to the benefit of Moe and the Sask. Party. But even should Trudeau lose, Moe stands to bask in both the victory and the honeymoon period of a new Andrew Scheer Conservative government.

However, any success Moe finds in 2019 will likely have more to do with whats gone on in the past in Saskatchewan politics than whats likely to happen in the coming year.

One of the sharpest criticism of Moe, fairly or unfairly, has been his penchant to pander to rural voters. All one has to do is consider the rural vote numbers from the 2016 election to see why.

For example, in the eight rural seats in southeast Saskatchewan, the Sask. Party had 25,725-vote advantage over the NDP, 38,230 votes to 12,505.

In the four rural southeast seats, the Sask. Party held a 20,593 advantage over the NDP, 24,226 votes to 3,633.

In the five west central Saskatchewan, the 35,582 Sask. Party votes in 2016 compared with the 7,877 votes gave the governing party a 27,695-vote advantage.

In northeast Saskatchewans six seats, the Sask.

Party had 17,305 more votes, 29,189 compared with 11,884 votes for the NDP. And in five northwest rural seats, the Sask. Party was 17,230 votes ahead, 23,589 compared with 6,368 for the NDP. Of course, things could change in the 2020 vote, but, give the massive difference, the Sask. Party is almost guaranteed to retake all 29 rural seats.

That would mean the Sask. Party would only need another three more seats for a majority. Maybe it wont win all 19 urban seats, but it Moe appears to be a rather good position.

Nothing is ever guaranteed in politics, but Moe seems to be in as good a position as any politician in 2019.

Setting sight on new heights Her name is Sherri Gahn. She isn’t an actress or woman with her own reality show. She’s not a politician or athlete. She isn’t an A-list celebrity or member of the rich and famous but she is a woman who is deserving of attention.

Sherri Gahn is an educator; a principal in Las Vegas, My Outlook Nevada. When she began work Shelley Luedtke in 2004 as principal at Whitney Elementary School in Las Vegas she was heartbroken to discover that 85% of her students lived in extreme poverty and many were homeless.

She witnessed students stuffing packets of ketchup into their pockets at lunch time to be turned into ketchup soup for supper--the only food they would have that night. She would say goodbye to students at the end of the day not knowing where that student might be sleeping that night. Determined to make a difference, principal Gahn mobilized friends and family to donate resources to the school so she could provide students with clothes, bags of food, or even help some families pay utility bills so they could have water and electricity.

One student, one family at a time, this woman is providing hope and opportunity to children living in desperate circumstances. Nothing brings her greater joy than knowing she can help change lives.

A school that had a high rate of truancy and where 75% of students were failing has seen a turnaround in those numbers. Proficiency rates in reading and math have more than doubled. Some students now dream of going to college, owning their own homes and helping others the way their principal and school helped them.

I remember a few years ago feeling pretty proud of myself because of the work I was doing with some challenging teenagers. Shortly after, I

heard the story of Erik Weihenmayer, a man who was the first blind person to reach the summit of Mount Everest and who then guided blind Tibetan teenagers 21,500 feet up the same mountain.

I now had two choices: I could either decide my work with teenagers in comparison to his was less worthy, or I could take inspiration from him and remind myself we are all called to different paths and to impact the lives of different people in different ways.

As Sherri Gahn’s work gained increased exposure over the last decade she grew increasingly uncomfortable. Magazines, talk shows and even a documentary told of the work being done at the school and this raised the number of corporate donors who got involved. This has been good, but it seemed to impact some of the individuals who used to give to the project. Perhaps they thought their smaller contributions wouldn’t mean as much anymore or weren’t needed at all because the large dollars were solving the problem. But neither is true.

There are many Sherri Gahns in many places including our own villages, towns and cities, who go out of their way to impact our communities.

They are motivated by a desire to help, to support and to encourage. Maybe we can’t all initiate enormous projects but there are things we all can do. Visit a shut-in. Donate an extra bag of groceries to the food bank. Offer to do a load of laundry for a young family. Read to someone whose eyesight is failing. Be a listening ear to someone feeling lonely. They will be grateful--you will be changed.

Then again perhaps 2019 is the year you decide to initiate a huge project, or continue doing the work you have always done. Either way you are inspiring others to get involved. In your own way, in your corner of the world, you will help people reach a new summit.

Managing Your Money: When it comes to heirlooms, it’s personal It’s not always about the money. When a family member dies, personal items and heirlooms can be the cause of significant conflict among family members.

As often as not, the most disputed items may have little to no monetary value – but that doesn’t make them any less important to those family members who treasure their “priceless” emotional value.

You can generally leave your estate to whomever you want, once you have satisfied your obligations to a spouse and dependents – and there are a number of strategies for ensuring that an estate is equitably distributed according to the wishes of the deceased. But making decisions regarding personal effects and family heirlooms is often one of the most difficult parts of the estate planning process.

What can you do to make sure the cherished personal property you wish to leave to your heirs does not become the focal point for future dis-

putes? Here are some tips: • Eliminate surprises Avoid potential conflicts by sharing with your family the contents of your Will and your reasons for the manner in which you have decided to distribute your assets so there are no surprises after you are gone.

• Understand what “fairness” means Fairness doesn’t necessary mean “equal” – and that is especially true when it comes to your personal items and heirlooms. Decide what “fairness” means to each of your family members, and if you agree, distribute your items accordingly.

• Have a discussion about your special assets List the items you wish to bequeath and get your family’s input on who should get what.

• Appraise and consult Have your personal property appraised and consult with your heirs to ensure the items you bequeath are appropriately valued – both monetarily and emotionally.

• Make a list Attach to your Will a letter or memorandum that lists your personal property items and the heirs who should get each.

The memorandum will not be enforceable as part of the Will unless incorporated into the terms of the Will.

• Choose now While you’re still alive, list or lay out your personal items and have your heirs take turns choosing what they want.

For example, you could have each of your heirs draw a number and have each person choose one item in turn until all the sentimental items have been selected.

• Choose later If you don’t want your heirs to select your personal items in advance but still prefer they are the ones who chose, leave a direction in your Will that your heirs are to choose one item in turn, until all have been chosen.

Having an estate plan that includes a Will is vital to ensuring your legacy is left as you wish. But keep in mind that people can change

their minds and your heirs may not necessarily want what you plan to give them – so keep things flexible. Talk to your professional advisor about the best estate planning strategies for you.

HEALTH HUB What you need to know about carbon monoxide poisoning Carbon monoxide (CO) is a toxic gas that can’t be seen, smelled or tasted. Since it doesn’t irritate the eyes or respiratory passages, it’s impossible for a human to detect it.

It’s produced when cars or appliances burn fuels like gasoline, propane, oil, natural gas and wood.

Symptoms of CO poisoning Nausea, headaches, dizziness and fatigue are the first signs of carbon monoxide poisoning. In more severe cases, it can lead to mental confusion, vomiting and loss of muscle co-ordination. In the most extreme cases, it can cause a coma or death.

Prevention of CO poisoning To prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, follow these tips: • Install carbon monoxide detectors in your home, and test them regularly. Visit the Government of Canada website for more information.

• Properly maintain your fuel-burning heating system and get your chimney cleaned once a year to ensure that it’s not obstructed.

• Hire a professional to inspect the ventilation near ap-

pliances that burn fuel (like gas stoves).

• Never leave a car running in the garage, even if the door is open.

• Don’t use gas- or propanepowered equipment such as a camping heater, barbeque or chainsaw in your house or garage.

Emergency measures If you begin to exhibit symptoms of CO poisoning, or if your alarm goes off, go outside immediately and call 911. Don’t go back inside your home until emergency service

responders have given you the all-clear. Ensure that any appliance that may have caused the leak is inspected before using it.

If your power goes out Within your home, only use lighting, heating and cooking appliances designed for indoor use, and never use a gas stove as an indoor heat source — even for just a few minutes!

If you use a generator, install it outdoors, as far away as possible from doors and windows, making sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Thoughts and Prayers Brent Toombs heard about the Humboldt Broncos bus crash at his home in Belize. “It hit me like a punch in the gut,” he says.“My heart goes out to everyone touched by this tragedy.” Toombs spent 10 years living in Saskatchewan, working at television stations in Prince Albert and later at STV (Global) in Saskatoon, adding: “I was lucky to live in Saskatchewan. That’s where I really began to understand my Canadian identity. Some of the best people I have ever known live there.”

He wrote “Thoughts and Prayers” and kindly agreed to share it with The Observer’s readers at our request.

Thoughts and prayers. And a line-up of people volunteering to get bumped off their flight so a family can get to Saskatoon sooner.

Thoughts and prayers. And parents who just lost their son in the accident keeping him on life support long enough so his organs can be used to help six other people.

Thoughts and prayers. And NHL coaches in tears speaking about kids they never met. And NHL teams honouring the Humboldt Broncos with on-ice ceremonies and cash donations.

Thoughts and prayers. And a nation watching Hockey Night in Canada with tears in their eyes.

Thoughts and prayers. And over $3.3 MILLION (and counting) donated by 49,000 people in just 36 hours to assist the people affected by this unimaginable tragedy.

Thanks to the outpouring of support and the actions of so many, “thoughts and prayers” has value again. In Canada, especially in Saskatchewan, “thoughts and prayers” obviously never stopped meaning something much, much deeper.

What used to be a well-intentioned expression of support has been co-opted by people who believe an empty tweet with that phrase somehow absolves them of any and all responsibility to stop students from getting shot at or from providing aid to people devastated by natural disasters. “Sending thoughts and prayers” and nothing else.

When the news broke of the horrific tragedy involving the Humboldt Broncos, social media blew up with “thoughts and prayers.”

Thoughts and prayers. And hundreds of people gathering at the local hockey arena in the middle of a bitterly cold Saskatchewan night in order to support members of their community.

Thoughts and prayers. And coffee, donuts, and food that always seems to magically appear whenever a group of people in Saskatchewan gather, especially in difficult times.

Thoughts and prayers. And people offering up their homes to anyone who needs a place to stay.

And hotels offering free rooms.

Thoughts and prayers. And people waiting for three hours to donate blood in Saskatoon.

Thoughts and prayers. And grief counsellors dispatched to assist the families, first responders, or anyone who needs someone to talk with.

Thoughts and prayers. And Canada’s two major airlines reaching out to assist affected families who need to travel to Saskatchewan.

Moose Mountain Lions Club and the Moose Mountain Church of Christ hosted their annual Santa Day Saturday, Dec. 15. The kids did crafts, played games, had hot chocolate, decorated cookies, enjoyed skidoo rides, participated in a Christmas story play, sang carols and Santa came for a visit. Volunteers from RBC came to help out. Lane Easton played Christmas carols for everyone to enjoy.

STARS Air Ambulance is something that people in rural communities need. It’s importance is constantly demonstrated and when the Humboldt Broncos crash occurred on Friday, April 6, the world rallied together for the survivors, their families, and the families of those who passed in the tragedy.

Seeing that response the graduating class of Stoughton School wanted to do something in honour of the Humboldt Broncos, their classmate Trey Stocker was playing for the Broncos but had grad photos with the Stoughton class as he planned to graduate amongst them, so was not on the bus. After a discussion, the graduating class approached Leon and Gayla Gilbertson about hosting a STARS fundraiser in memory of the Broncos; a cause that the Gilbertsons were more than happy to support.

“It’s been an emotional time for everyone in Saskatchewan,” Gayla said. “In small towns where we have to drive for everything and nothing is close, we understand the importance of emergency services and STARS. And if you’ve ever wondered why you live where we

The evening saw a prime rib meal enjoyed by the sold out crowd at the event, while they ate Highway 13 performed.

Team alumni Dan Rashovich, former linebacker for 16 seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, is now backing up a foundation dedicated to researching and improving treatments for children’s cancer. At a lunch and learn presentation at Crescent Point Energy Corp., he was joined by fellow alumni offensive tackle Andrew Greene to acknowledge the company as the foremost financial donor.

The Believe in the Gold Foundation was started six years ago in Calgary by Shonalie Biafore, and has now spread to Saskatchewan. Her daughter Jacey, was diagnosed in 2010 with a very rare cancer called Erwin’s Sarcoma, similar to the cancer Terry Fox had. Jacey passed away in 2012 but left behind the catch phrase “Believe”. Her mother started a foundation funding research into new treatments for children, and offer financial support to local families with children who had been diagnosed with cancer.

Weekly RCMP report Submitted by Staff Sgt. Darren Simons Cst. Brian LEE has joined us direct from the farm, (Depot) He is another Ontarion. He has been an excellent addition to our Team.

I will provide those that exceed the posted speed limit a heads up. By the time you are reading this we will have trained another 4 Members on radar.

Slow down please.

Members often respond to 911 calls that we attribute to “Fat Fingers or Little Fingers” This week we had two 911 misdial’s, On the first occasion someone was trying to dial out and “fat fingers” (I suffer from that) and they ended up calling 911. The other 911 was attributed to children playing with the phone.

“Little Fingers” Members responded to three False Alarms, twice we were called off, however, on another occasion the alarm company failed to contact us which resulted in much more effort than should have been undertaken by the Member. If you have an alarm and it goes off please make sure the alarm company calls the RCMP if it has been deemed false. We don’t want that and we don’t like wasting our time when we could be doing something else.

We had an incident of bullying reported. It appears that the complainant just wanted advice, which was provided.

We know it is not the Christmas Season until someone steals Christmas lights. We don’t know if it was they Grinch but the individual or individuals responsible are likely to find coal in their stocking this year.

If you think someone stole your phone and feel you need to call the RCMP, maybe call your phone first.

You see, when you are intoxicated and infer another intoxicated individual has stolen your phone, you may aggravate the situation, which was the case. Upon arrival of the RCMP to the residence the phone was found on the couch and we provided two individuals a ride else-

where to avoid any further problems.

Members pulled over a vehicle in Kenosee and determined the driver was impaired.

Samples of 120/110 mg% were obtained.

The driver gets a Court appearance, the vehicle is seized for 30 days and the driver loses their licence until the matter is resolved in court. Remember driving is a privilege, not a right.

We looked for another impaired driver, however, we were unable to locate the driver. We appreciate the public calling about their concerns, it helps us look it the right area.

Another impaired driving investigation resulted in several inspection tickets and warning notices. If the vehicle is not working correctly don’t put your life and the lives of others at risk. Get it fixed.

Did you know individuals that are intoxicated can be difficult to understand. We are investigating a possible assault where subject “A” or maybe it was subject “B” assaulted the alleged victim. Or did they get assaulted at all? Apparently our complainant is not sure. This is always an interesting file and can be entertaining or is it frustrating? At present this incident is still under investigation.

An individual that was on conditions not to have contact with their child, had contact with their child and was arrested and lodged for court. DQ for a couple of days and toast for breakfast. The individual was again released on the same conditions with a stern warning from the Judge. I will leave it at that for now.

A Police Officer walks into the lobby of the Court House and an individual is upset because so many Police Officers are around and, well showed his displeasure by utilizing profanity. He explained to the Police Officer that he is just sharing his opinion. Well the Police Officer explained the individual had committed the offence of Causing a Disturbance, in this instance by swearing. There was a brief standoff when the individual failed to identify himself which they had to by law and challenged the Member to arrest him. Fortunately another Police

Officer recognized the individual and once identity was confirmed the Member let them off with a warning.

We did generate a file so as if this individual continues this behaviour they may not get a warning next time.

One individual now has a warrant because they forgot to go to court. Seems someone forgets every week.

There sure are a lot of wanted people out there.

You should check your credit rating. We are now investigating an identity theft file where someone had lost their ID quite some time ago and now they have unexpected debt.

Probation services advised us of an individual that has failed to comply with their Probation Order. Unfortunately this individual is not here and we advised of same. That said if this individual comes back and we find out they will be arrested.

So sometimes we wheel and deal. Like, let us say we get someone for rolling through a stop sign. We give them a warning for the stop sign but give them a ticket for not having their drivers licence on them. I say sometimes, whatever you do don’t demand a deal or request a deal. Not your call, rather it is our call.

Sometimes we get a multiple offence offender and we get to do multiple choice tickets.

I say sometimes, because as much as some people think we get paid to be abused - we don’t. Thus we can also give multiple tickets.

Attitude does make a difference. So does pulling over in a quick and safe manner, like an approach.

Remember we don’t like to be told how to do our job, that you pay our wages and as much as you think you know the law because you have taken high school law . . . you don’t know diddly.

The most expensive speeding ticket was for $742.00. Upon reviewing the notes of the Member it appears the driver was late for a meeting with another individual. Aggravating the situation was the young teenager in the vehicle. Upon receiving the ticket the driver told the police officer they were going to lose their job and that the police officer did not (profanity) about their

job and ability to feed their family. I wasn’t there, however, I know the Police Officer and he does care, not directly about an individuals employment, rather about the individuals safety so they can be employed. Dead people can’t work.

For those that don’t know and want to know, fines jump up dramatically when one is 35 km over the speed limit and again when one is 50 km over the speed limit. Over 50 km over often results in a call to the tow truck as well and the vehicle is impounded for 7 days for a first time offence.

During the last week Members gave out several tickets for failing to stop at a stop sign. Remember if the tires are still rolling you are not stopped. Fine for this offence is $230.

We also travelled many grid roads over the last week. We all know what RCMP stands for but do you know that GRC is Gendarmerie royale, du Canada or in “Red neck” “Gravel Road Cop” There is not much snow, however, there is enough for some people. A youth found out that he can ride his sled, however, they still has to follow the law. They were fined for operating a snowmobile without a valid licence, $150, operating an unregistered snowmobile, $100, fail to wear a helmet, $125 and a warning for an operator not completing the mandatory safety course. This individual was not just driving, they were doing so in the manner that attracted the attention of concerned citizens.

The snowmobile was also towed. Hopefully this will be a learning lesson.

Warnings, Tickets and inspection notices were also issued for, Drive with undue care and attention, Fail to produce licence on demand of a Police Officer, obstructed licence plate, inadequate licence plate light, fail to wear seatbelt, fail to comply with licence endorsement, drive without a valid licence, inadequate day time running lights, and Fail to produce registration.

If you check your licence plate is old, the numbers and letters are difficult to read replace it at your convenience with SGI, rather

than be directed to do so by the RCMP. An erratic driver was reported. We did not find the driver, however, we will be following up with the Registered Owner.

We had a collision involving a deer, we confirmed it was not a reindeer and provided the driver a file number.

Impaired driving laws have changed. I know that several might suggest that it infringes on their constitutional rights. However, the rights of the majority should prevail.

blood alcohol content of: 80-110 mg% minimum $1,000 fine; 120-150 mg% minimum $1,500 fine; over 160 mg% minimum $2,500 fine.

If you refuse to be tested the minimum fine is $2,000.

A second offence is a minimum of 30 days imprisonment and anything over that is a minimum of 120 days imprisonment.

Oh, yeah and if you don’t like it, don’t drink and drive.

Toy Drive sure to put smiles on many young faces Shannon MacLeod at The Bargain Store says this year’s Carlyle and Area Toy Drive may be the most challenging one yet.

“This is the 4th year that CFY has partnered with The Bargain! Shop and other area businesses and it seems that the need is growing,” says MacLeod. “When economic conditions are challenging, families really feel the effects.

“The need is an ongoing thing and we don’t want anyone to be left out at Christmas, especially if they’ve already had a hard year.”

Macleod adds that The Bargain! Shop has upped their fundraising game with a special event planned for Saturday, Dec. 8, with details to come later.

“I think this will be the year with the most need ever and it’s a real local effort,” says MacLeod. “It’s our fourth year and we want to provide a little bit of Christmas to families from throughout this southeast corner of Saskatchewan.”

The Toy Drive aims to provide a gift from Santa to each young recipient.

“We gladly and gratefully accept donations of unwrapped gifts or cash donations that will allow us to give a little Christmas to boys and girls from birth to age 17,” says MacLeod. “The age group we usually get the most gifts donated to are for children from three to five years of age.”

“I’ve been asked for suggestions for gift ideas for pre-teens and teens and it can be as simple as hygiene stuff, such as shampoo, combs and brushes.

Mittens and sweaters are good and so are gift cards, if you’re unsure about a size or what to buy.”

“Last year, we provided gifts for kids from the southeast corner of Saskatchewan, including Carlyle, Arcola, White Bear, Kenosee, Kisbey, Ochapowace, Redvers, Alida, Alameda, Oxbow, Manor, Lampman, Kennedy and Wawota,” says MacLeod.

“Our application deadline to receive a guaranteed gift is Saturday, Dec. 8,” adds MacLeod. “But we’ll do our very best if someone’s left out.”

“We make it work,” she smiles.

MacLeod stresses that the application process is confidential. “We ask that people apply through organizations such as their church, band office, school, local family centre or other participating organization.”
