“Soul”stice Week at the Sustainability Project By Mary Moffat marymoffat@sasktel.net The Sustainability Project held three events in the week leading up to its Grand Opening on June 21. In the spirit of building the kind of community where people love to live, the events were geared to catering to your soul. The June 18th evening hosted Montmarte author, Christalee Froese of the More Joy Project. Froese shared things learned as she discovered her Journey to Joy. The book titled “Journey to Joy” details her discoveries after a nervous breakdown. Froese addressed the subjects of depression and anxiety and spoke about discovering your social self, your essential self, challenging false thoughts and choosing to create new, more joyful habits 21 days at a time, as you discover what robs you of your enthusiasm for life and ways to restore that joy. June 19th was an evening of Doodling for Relaxation, led by the talented Lorri Solomon-Matthewson. This class was relaxing for some, while challenging for others, but everyone left that evening with a new appreciation for the things that you can create, once you let go of your self-limiting thoughts. On June 20th author Kenneth Kerr shared how a life worth living is a life worth recording. There was a lot of information shared over the span of two hours, from why you should journal to suggestions on how to get more out of it. Kerr had five main points to journaling: look for sideroads; a lesson will be repeated until it is learned; healing the mind; discovering your purpose; and gratitude. These were followed by methods and approaches such as traditional, intelligently, thematically or digitally. For more information you can check out www.ALifeWorthJournaling.com. Friday, June 21, members of the community gathered for the ribbon cutting ceremony at The Sustainability Project Grand Opening. Lorri Solomon-Matthewson spoke about how this project came to be in existence, her goals and her dreams for the future of sustainable communities. Carlyle Mayor Wayne Orsted and Nicole Currie of the Chamber of Commerce joined Mathewson and Jennifer Sedor for the ribbon cutting, followed by snacks, visiting and discussions regarding this community and ideas for the future.
