The Redvers & District Oil Showcase has welcomed industry exhibitors and attendees from throughout southeast Saskatchewan, as well as from Manitoba, Alberta and the U.S. This year’s event was no exception as nearly 100 exhibitors packed the Redvers Rec Centre and nearly 40 more set up outside. Since 2007, The Redvers & District Oil Showcase has welcomed industry insiders, exhibitors and attendees from throughout southeast Saskatchewan, as well as from Manitoba, Alberta and the U.S. This year’s edition of the bi-annual event was no exception as nearly 100 exhibitors packed the Redvers Rec Centre and nearly 40 more set up outside.

Many of those in attendance described the mood as “optimistic” - an assessment which is echoed by the event’s founding member and past president, Brian LeNouail.

“This year, a lot of vendors are talking with a lot more optimism and throughout the two days, the mood is a lot lighter than it was in 2016 - and it is in the industry,” says LeNouail. “The show is a great boost for our community and communities throughout this corner of the province.”

Current Redvers & District Oil Showcase President, Matt Axten agrees with LeNouail.

“This is just one example,” says Axten. “But in 2016, we sold 300 supper tickets and this year, we sold 550 in a very short space of time. As far as the industry, we’re not out of the woods, but we’re close!”

This year’s showcase offered attendees the opportunity to network, to learn about emerging industry trends and initiatives, as well as the chance to attend seminars led by experts in areas such as Site Assessment and Reclamation, Incident Reporting, Taxation Issues and one of the most well-attended - Cannabis in the Workplace - presented by David Hammermeister, CPA, CA of Estevan’s MNP LLP. Hammermeister gave an overview of the upcoming legalization of cannabis as it affects human resources departments and reminded his audience that “It’s not decriminalization, but legalization.”

He stated that safety in the workplace for all employees as well as “just plain common sense” should guide HR departments when drafting new rules.

However, he also stated that legal considerations involve more than one level of government as well as: health and safety issues, Human Rights Code issues,

Hammermeister said that the oil and gas industry has a distinction to make with regards to the new legislation, stating: “Being impaired in an office environment might be different than being impaired behind a large piece of equipment.”

Even with the event’s ongoing innovation, success and growth, LeNouail says the Redvers & District Oil Showcase has stayed true to its roots.

“We hold it every two years so that our show alternates with Weyburn’s Oil Show,” he says. “Even though we’ve had people attend from as far away as Texas and Oklahoma - which we welcome - we’ve also always wanted to keep our show as a chance for the smaller operators to get into an industry-related trade show to showcase their wares.”

Christina Birch, Economic Development Officer for The Town of Redvers agrees, stating: “The Town of Redvers is excited to be a part of the Redvers Oil Showcase again this year. It’s fantastic to see an event of this magnitude being held right here in our community. The committee deserves a lot of credit for all of the hard work that has gone into planning this year’s event. The turnout has been really good and it has brought attendees from all over Western Canada and beyond.”

Submitted Alameda’s 22nd Annual Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, June 30! Mark your calendars and come join the festivities of this familyoriented day. The annual fishing derby is a key fundraising event of the Alameda Community Rink. It’s fast becoming one of the biggest derbies in Saskatchewan.

In the past, there have been over 300 entries. There is an adult division paying out $5,000 in prize money.

The youth division includes any fisherman twelve years and younger. This division has six different money winners. As well, youth get to pick a prize!

The day starts at 6 a.m. rain or shine at the Alameda Dam with a pancake breakfast at the Moose Creek Golf Course Clubhouse. Fishing commences at 8 a.m. from land or water. Fishing from shore is absolutely permitted. If you are not an early riser, bring the family out for an afternoon of fun and relaxation.

Northern Pike is the species of fish everyone’s angling for. Any fish brought to the official scale will be weighed by our weighmaster on the commercial digital scale and then released. No fish will be weighed after 4 p.m.

There have been fewer fish weighed the last few years as most of the fishermen have cellphones on the water

The 22 annual Alameda Community Rink’s Fishing Derby takes place Saturday, June 30 - rain or shine - at the Alameda Dam. The festivities begin with a 6 a.m. pancake breakfast at the Moose Creek Golf Club and end with a barbeque beef supper at the Alameda Community Rink. “We encourage people to mark their calendars for a fun and festive family-oriented day,” says organizer Sylvia Gibson. “It’s fast becoming one of Saskatchewan’s biggest derbies and it’s the key fundraiser for the Alameda Community Rink.” nd

This event is a major fundraiser for the Alameda Community Rink with support from several communities and businesses, including the oilfield and agriculture sectors.

Good neighbours

By Linda Wegner Looking back over the years I can think of only one neighbour we found impossible to get along with; any recollections of that person are greatly outnumbered by the wonderful neighbourhood friendships we’ve enjoyed over the years, however. Here are a couple of recent examples.

This week, what started out as our customary Monday evening family supper ended up including a frantic search for our granddaughter’s puppy who’d managed to get out of the gated back porch.

Between searches on foot, by car and by a Facebook posting or two, said doggie was located

just a couple of houses down the street and was returned by a neighbour.

Many thanks to all who helped us bring a happy ending to an otherwise tension-filled situation.

A couple of days later another neighbour and a friend took me out for a belated birthday lunch.

In fact, few days pass without demonstrations of kindnesses, helpfulness and the joys of watching children playing across a number of “neighbourly” lawns. Thanks to these special friends our days have been seasoned with pleasure.

The matter of having and, more importantly of being, a good neighbour is specifically addressed eight times by

the writer of Proverbs.

Here’s a quick summary of those exhortations: don’t break trust that’s been created between you and a neighbour (3:29); bite your tongue instead of starting a quarrel (11:12); don’t dare to look down on a neighbour who is not as financially well off as you are but rather help them (14:20-21); don’t lie to or about a neighbour and don’t be guilty of slandering them (24:28, 29 and 25:8-10); and, don’t be stupid enough to lie to and then attempt to joke your way out of the situation (26:18,19).

Is friendship with every neighbour easily achieved? No, but with God’s help we can demonstrate His love.

The Wawota Museum Annual Spring Tea was held on May 25. Several attended and supported the event by buying raffle tickets and purchasing bake items. There were prizes for the correct answers to questions about museum items and history. During the past couple of weeks both the Playschool and Grade 1 classes enjoyed a tour through the buildings. They enjoyed a picnic lunch and outdoor activities.

Roy Borolotto spent last week at the Annual Meeting of the United Church in North Battleford.

June 2 marked the graduation for the ten young people graduating from Wawota Parkland High. Although they were a small class they were quite impressive. Everyone rose to the occasion and several won awards, both academic and service. Those graduating were, Brynn Appell, Dagan Brisbois, Quade Jackson, Hannah Kormos, Miles Linder, Mac Niven, Dalton Patterson, Larissa Rutten, Amy Stolz and Kye Lynn Van Meer. Congratulations to these graduates and we wish you all the best as you move on to accomplish their goals.

Wawota would like to welcome Russel Holmes and Colleen Pollard to our town. They hail from Regina Beach and are the new owners of the Wawota Hotel.

Other business news is that Don and Brenda Horvath have expanded their business to the Carlyle area. They are at the former North American Lumber location on Highway 13.

Eleanor Tourond passed away on May 30 at the age of 87 years. She was a resident of Deerview Lodge and a sister of Dorothy Tomlinson. Sympathy to Terri and Brent and family. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place at a future date.

Alcohol-related Offences Members responded to reports of an intoxicated individual who was causing problems. Police took this person to the hospital to be checked out and after confirming this person was in good health, lodged them in cells until they were sober.

Assault Carlyle RCMP responded to the report of an altercation in Carlyle. As a result, a female youth was charged with two counts of assault and two accounts of assault with a weapon, as well as two counts of uttering threats. An adult male was also charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and was also deemed an accessory to one offence

Police arrested a male youth offender in Carlyle and charged this individual with: assault, theft, obstruction and failure to comply with conditions.

RCMP responded to an assault which occurred in Redvers. The victim did not want charges to be laid.

An assault in Redvers is currently under investigation by Carlyle RCMP. Assistance Members of the Carlyle RCMP detachment assisted police in White Butte with a case involving two missing persons.

Members of the Carlyle RCMP detachment assisted the Regina Police Service by arresting an individual.

RCMP assisted an individual regarding the return of some belongings. This situation was the result of an investigation which included uttering threats and threats of mischief. No charges were wanted by the person(s) involved.

Police provided assistance with regards to a child welfare call within the detachment area.

Members confirmed that the children involved were safe and well.

Members of the Carlyle RCMP detachment made patrols in an effort to find a vehicle linked to an unsolved incident in another detachment area.

Breach of Conditions/Failure to Comply RCMP members investigated a possible breach of release conditions and as a result, charged one individual.

An investigation of a breach of release conditions in the Redvers area

resulted in police issuing a warning to the individual concerned.

RCMP are currently investigating a case of an individual failing to comply with conditions.

Citizen’s Arrest Carlyle RCMP received an inquiry from a member of the public asking if they could make a citizen’s arrest.

Staff Sgt. Simons replied: “They can make a citizen’s arrest, but with the technology available today, we strongly recommend that members of the public get a licence plate number, a description and take a photo, if possible. Then hand that over to us and let the police do their job for the safety of all concerned.”

Drugs/Proceeds of Crime Members of the Carlyle RCMP conducted a vehicle stop and upon further investigation, found drugs and cash.

The vehicle was towed and the cash was seized as it was believed by police to be proceeds stemming from criminal activity.

Fraud Members are currently investigating a case of fraud within the detachment area, in which an individual was defrauded using iTunes cards. RCMP ask members of the public to be especially vigilant regarding possible fraudulent activity.

RCMP continue their efforts to make roadways safe for all motorists, according to Staff Sgt. Simons. This week, members dealt with a semi-trailer hauling dangerous goods which did not display the proper placard. In addition, police discovered this cargo was not secure.

Members responded to a report of a possiblyimpaired driver who was found to be sober by police.

Staff Sgt. Simons reminds motorists to carry their vehicle registration, insurance documents and driver’s licences with them at all times.

One individual received a warning this week for failing to produce their vehicle registration.

An individual was fined $175 for having no trailer insurance.

A motorist was fined $230 for not stopping at a posted intersection.

Members issued numerous fines and warnings to motorists throughout the detachment area for speeding, with several fines reaching over $200 and with the highest amount reaching $296.

RCMP members issued five seatbelt tickets.

The fine for this offence is $175.

Members are investigating a report of an erratic driver in Arcola.

Members issued several inspection notices to drivers this week; including: inadequate or damaged windshields, window tint, loud mufflers,, inadequate headlamps, exhaust issues concerning vehicles, and more.

Uttering Threats A case of uttering threats was deemed by police to be unfounded.

Harassing Communications Police are currently investigating a case of harassing communications within the Carlyle area.

Mental Health Act Carlyle RCMP responded to two calls regarding the Mental Health Act. Property Damage/ Disputes A situation involving property damage in Wawota was reported to RCMP for information purposes.

Members of the Carlyle RCMP detachment resolved a situation involving several unwanted guests at a residence.

A dispute between occupants at a Wawotaarea residence was resolved by the RCMP. Members resolved a situation regarding unwanted individuals in a residence.

A vehicle in Carlyle was keyed.

Theft RCMP assisted SaskPower with a theft of electric power which resulted in the power being disconnected at a residence. This situation is still under investigation by Carlyle RCMP. Members are currently investigating the theft of a dump trailer and Kubota tractor from Forget.

A case in which sheet metal roofing was stolen from Kenosee Lake remains unsolved.

A shoplifter was arrested at a business in Carlyle.

RCMP are investigating the theft of a TV in the Carlyle area.

believe that Alida received around 3.5 – 4 inches or so over the weekend. At the rink the bar and kitchen remained open during both days so one could enjoy both a drink and food while supporting the Rec. Board. If one was interested you could tour through the garage sale stations which were setup on the ice surface of the skating rink.

We are now into a new month – June – and finally received a much needed rain, once it started, didn’t seem to know how to stop again.

The low spots in some fields are now flooded again, so seeding them was for not – oh well one never knows and we really won’t complain as it was pretty darn dry out there. My garden should did soak up the moisture, so it should definitely sprout up and grow now – at least I know that the weeds will (ha ha).

Hopefully our lawn will benefit from the rain as well as there are many large winterkill spots scattered throughout the lawn. It sure didn’t take long and it was time to mow that grass again.

Yup the yard work will really keep one busy now, but I for one enjoy being outdoors puttering in the yard (even if there’s wood ticks by the thousands out there too). You know it seems to me that the wood tick season is starting earlier (April this year) and will last well into the summer months (probably mid-July at least). Darn Wood ticks – I hate them to pieces.

Carlyle Town Council met on Wednesday, May 30 at the Carlyle Civic Centre. Council’s next regularly-scheduled meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 20 at 7 p.m. at the Civic Centre.

New Councillor Carlyle Town Council welcomed their newest member - Councillor Kelly Lutz - to his first meeting. Lutz was elected to council following a May 23 byelection.

Public Works Town of Carlyle Public Works Superintendent Todd Thompson reported that work was underway throughout the community on necessary spring maintenance projects. Progress will depend on weather conditions.

Dump Day This year’s free Dump Day was a success, with 62 households taking advantage of free refuse dropoff at the town dump. Council is considering making this an annual event, tentatively scheduled for the Saturday after the May long weekend.

Fire As Council’s representative on the Fire Board, Councillor Darcy Moore gave a report regarding May’s fire and firefighting activity in the area. Moore commended volunteer firefighters in this part of the province, adding: “If you see a firefighter, thank them for all of their hard work, especially during the month of May.” Thanks to Public Works The Carlyle & District Lions Club wrote Council, commending Public Works employees. Crossfit: an experience

Thought you were finished hearing from me? Not quite. I’m going to attempt to keep writing my editorial as a way to kind of keep in touch with the community.

A few months ago I started going to CrossFit and I have to say I’m going to miss it. Those workouts get the day started off on a good note.

Kelly Running Whenever someone asked me what I was doing to be active and CrossFit came up the immediate reaction was, “Be careful. People get hurt doing that.”

My response would sometimes include a little bit of sarcasm, “I can twist my ankle walking across the street. You can get hurt doing anything.”

But, ultimately I explained that Carson Brady – the owner of Living Skies CrossFit in Carlyle – knows what he’s doing and ensures you’re doing things right. I was quite impressed with his knowledge at my very first session. He talked about nutrition and what fitness is – that CrossFit defines as “work capacity across broad time and modal domains,” so work equals force times distance divided by time, while modal domains refers to physical skills: accuracy, agility, balance, coordination, cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, flexibility, power, strength, speed, and stamina.

So, essentially he said everyone is fit in their own way and it’s a matter of being active when it comes right down to it. Which makes it kind of nice when you’re in the class because you’re not competing with anyone but yourself because you might all have different weights being used, a body shape that allows you to more quickly pick up the gymnastics side of things or the weight-lifting side of things, different range of motions, etc… and at the end of the day you’re there to better yourself. Everyone is encouraging and even if you don’t know someone in your class there’s a high five or “knucks” – fist bumps – afterwards because you all just did your best at what was laid out in front of you. Times or reps are kept to see your improvement on them when that WOD – Workout Of the Day – comes around again.

While there to ensure safety you have a coach there that if something’s too heavy and your form is compromised he tells you to drop it. If you’re not quite doing a move right he “scales” it, giving you a different movement that will work the same muscles, but something your body can handle until you build up the strength for the other movement.

Hopefully all CrossFit coaches are like this, but one of Carson’s biggest assets as a coach is his encouragement. Throughout the entire workout he watches over everyone – encouraging each person when they slow down, when he sees success he pumps their tires by saying how great they are doing, and he ensures that even though you’re tired you keep proper form and just keep moving.

In fact if I wasn’t able to make a class time due to work or coaching I would work out in a different gym and while pushing myself – as weird as it probably is – I could hear Carson’s encouragement of “just keep moving” when I began slowing down and thinking I needed to catch my breath before finishing the round.

Or as I became tired, “Push to the end. You’ll remember how the end of the workout felt more than the beginning.”

So, I have to say it was nothing but a good experience for me… except for maybe the burpees – those are tough – although even though I dreaded them I got better at it quickly and it wasn’t quite as daunting. Overall though it was a great experience, one that I wish I had started sooner.

Yes, it should be up for debate It was a day I was quite excited about, albeit rather nervous, too.

After several days of preparing and practicing, our high school English class was ready for debate day.

What I was most looking forward to was seeing each student present their argument because we had a teacher who intentionally assigned us a viewpoint not in keeping with our personal perspective.

My Outlook So while it would have made sense Shelley Luedtke to put me on the affirmative side of “Be it resolved that there be a complete ban on smoking in all indoor and outdoor spaces including parks, recreation areas and on the street,” she had me argue in opposition to the resolution.

An effective technique used by instructors teaching the art of debate is to have someone argue the opposing view to what they personally believe. It forces solid research and sound reasoning and gives the debater a wider perspective on the topic, rather than just reinforcing what they already think. As a non-smoker I would have supported the resolution, but as a debater my partner and I needed to craft an argument against it. It was hard work but one of the assignments I remember most from high school.

Looking at something from someone else’s perspective or looking at an issue from many different sides gets great lip service in the public sphere. We like to talk about examining a topic from all sides before making a decision. It gives a sense of thoroughness and we feel better if we believe there has been time taken to give careful consideration to the topic at hand. We’re left to perhaps disagree with the decision--but not the process.

Yet we know this isn’t entirely the case anymore-or perhaps it never has been in some circles--because now we can simply yell at those undertaking the process before they’ve come to any sort of conclusion.

Just consider some of what we see taking place.

A debate at an American university about the Black Lives Matter movement made targets out of the students involved before anyone even argued a position.

When the debate itself took place there were 100 protestors in the room with 350 more in the hallway and lobby hurling obscenities at the debaters for more than an hour. The event had to be shut down and

the university has since abandoned these types of debates for fear of similar outcomes.

Then there’s the chamber of commerce forum that sought to bring together a congressional delegation to talk economics but instead found itself in the middle of a shouting match as protestors attempted to keep one of the elected, and invited, representatives from taking to the podium.

If protestors had allowed the exchange to happen they may have still disagreed with those that presented their ideas but there might have been opportunity to hear something they hadn’t heard before--and have someone listen to what they may have wanted to say for a long time. Instead, the events were disrupted and the messages got lost.

But here’s the interesting thing in these and so many other similar stories. It turns out there were a lot of students at that debate who were there to hear thoughtful discourse. Several reported feeling conflicted by what they were seeing on social media feeds versus what their day to day experience was. They wanted to listen to an academic exchange that would help them navigate the muddied waters of political correctness. But what they got were obscenities, insults and shouted slogans that had little to do with the resolution that was to be debated.

Individuals interviewed at the chamber of commerce luncheon had come to talk about deregulation, taxation and entrepreneurship. Instead they witnessed personal attacks on the politicians who had come to discuss the economic conditions their constituents were confronting. The speeches were disrupted. The talks never took place.

I will never be a proponent of smoking in public places but I am very grateful for a teacher who pushed us to see different ways to frame an issue. My partner and I lost the debate that day and I was okay with that. Because what we gained was an understanding of the complexity of most issues and what can be learned when you are required to support something unpopular. We evaluated ideas, not individuals, and discovered what can be learned when we are willing to listen quietly to those who vehemently oppose what we believe.

Debate programs are thriving in many junior high and high schools and are valued as important tools in teaching critical thinking and respectful dialogue. If our young people can do it, shouldn’t we expect it of adults? That’s my outlook.

Managing Your Money: Moves to make before you move It doesn’t matter whether you’re moving across the street or across the country, moving to a new home is stressful.

Make it less stressful by making these five moves before you move.

1. Calculate the cost Your first move is to build an accurate moving budget.

Write down all the costs you think you’ll incur – including such obvious expenses as paying the movers or renting a van (if you’re doing it yourself) and such not-so-obvious expenses as the cost of a hotel room or rental house if yours isn’t ready yet, the cost of meals out until you get your kitchen up and running, the cost to store some or all of your belongings for a period of time, the cost of insurance to keep your stuff safe.

And don’t forget the cost of boxes and other packing supplies.

2. Choose a mover This can be difficult.

You may want to begin by asking friends who they used when they moved and check out online reviews — they aren’t fool-proof but they can help. As well, the Government of Canada has a great consumer checklist* that will help you find a good mover.

When you’ve selected a few, call up each mover to get a quote and be sure to ask these questions: Do you contract work to a third party? How am I protected if any of my belongings are damaged or lost? What is your claim process? Do you guarantee the delivery date?

Lyme disease in dogs: what you need to know

Prevent Lyme disease by having your dog vaccinated and checking his fur for ticks after every walk.

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that’s transmitted to dogs via tick bites. If left untreated, the illness can spread to various organs and cause severe health problems, which is why it’s crucial to know what it is exactly and how to prevent it.

Symptoms Lyme disease is relatively difficult to detect because its symptoms are highly varied and may only

present several months after your dog’s initial exposure. Nevertheless, certain signs such as loss of appetite, fever, low energy and difficulty moving around (limping), are generally linked to the illness.

Prevention Have your dog vaccinated regularly to prevent him from contracting Lyme disease. You may also use parasite repellents (in cream, pill or collar

form) in addition to checking your pet’s fur for ticks after every walk.

If you find a tick on your pet, gently remove it using a tool specifically designed for the task (available at pet stores) and bring the tick to a vet to have it tested for Lyme disease.

Lyme disease is a zoonosis, meaning that it can affect both animals and humans.

Manor School Drama

As if high school wasn’t challenging enough, the cast of the Manor School Drama Club dealt with surprise appearances by “The Bird” played by Vincent Shackleton. The cast and crew of “The 10 Best/Worst Things About High School” included: Shackleton and Desiree Riddell, Kyle Bye, Jennifer Wilson, Mykel Biermann, Paige Valentine, Brynne McGraw, Presley Onufreychuk, Shay-lynne Englot, Caydence Chapman, Aiza Weir, Kara Brimner, Missy Biermann (Sound), Nathan Bye (Lighting) with a cameo appearance by Mrs. Barsi as herself.

The play was directed by teachers Michelle Cundall and Korinn Riddell.

The Manor School Drama Club’s production of “The 10 Best/Worst Things About High School” was staged at the school Tuesday, May 29. The audience was treated to both sides of the high school experience.

Here, one of the tougher - but funnier - situations of school life is embodied by actor Kyle Bye and fellow cast members.

Redvers Wranglers 4-H Light Horse Club update The Redvers Wranglers 4-H Light Horse Club has been busy. In April we had 9 members from our club participate in District Bowling in Carievale. The next day, we had a horsemanship clinic at Crystal Harper’s at Manor. This was the first ride of the year for some members

and everyone had lots of fun and learned a lot.

We started our weekly riding meetings in April and are working on safety, horsemanship, trail, gymkhana, and more.

We have 2 members that have started riding their colts through the Young Horse project and are doing very well

with them. On April 29, we served lunch at the Key M Auction Sale. We hope everyone enjoyed the pie, cake, cookies, burgers and hotdogs.

We had a club trip on May 26 and 27 to Wolf Creek Circle Square Ranch at Wolseley. We had 22 people (members, leaders and parents) and 20 horses attend this overnight trip. Everyone had fun with the activities such as archery, wall climbing, riding, campfire

songs and skits and games. Our members and parents got to learn some new skills and had lots of fun and laughs.

We would like to thank FCC for the $500 grant we received through the FCC 4-H Club Fund towards this event. Their support of 4-H is greatly appreciated.

Our Achievement Day is planned for June 17 to show family and friends what we’ve learned and enjoy some fun and games.

Employment Opportunity Home Care Nurse for the White Bear First Nations The HCC Nurse is responsible for providing, participating and directing staff in the delivery of a high standard of community health. The HCC Nurse provides assessments for community band members needing assistance at home. The services provided are client and family focused including initial assessment, one to one teaching, treatment, palliative care and rehabilitation to prevent deterioration and promote independence.

The HCC Nurse is part of the Health Care Team and is responsible for liaising between clients, families, community and health care providers to ensure clients and families understand their conditions and treatment and to ensure band members are receiving the appropriate care. The goal is to minimize the effect of the disability and/or illness and support the independence and well-being of individuals.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES • Perform initial assessments and reassessments in a timely manner and as client’s conditions change in order to develop client centered care plans that promote independence; • Provide and delegate nursing care in accordance with best practice standards; • Assign client care based on assessed need; • Maintain complete and confidential client records; • Consult with the client’s physician and other health professionals/agencies; • Complete statistical reporting as required; • Ensure all reports are completed in a timely manner and submitted as required; • Provide direction and supervision to a staff of 2 Home Health Aides; • Prepare annual nursing work plan and budgeting requirements through identified community health priorities; • Act in a manner consistent with professional code of ethics, responsibilities and standards of practice; • Other general duties as required.

Maryfield Villa News Submitted by Janet Mark The topic of conversation in this week’s Circle of Friends was, “What advice would you give to the high school graduates?” Mary Thiessen recorded the residents advice, to give to the three from Maryfield High School. Margaret Penner led the discussion. Jessie (who has the largest family) said, “Get a year of manual labour before taking further education”. All advised working hard at whatever came to hand, and searching for work you enjoy. “Follow your interests, to the best of your ability”.

Rain poured down on the courtyard at supper time, and Lois and June finished putting out their transplants.

Many of us are spending a daily hour visiting and enjoying the beauty.

The first hummingbird is back.

Visitors this week included Jack and Inez Brady of Moosomin with all their former neighbours. Wawota visitors were: Laurie Jackson, with her aunts, Alice and Ruth; Sherry Wison with Ruth Holstrom and Mildred, and Ruth’s latest great grandchild with this parents. Linda Mulligan and Wendy Longman spent time with Freda. Eileen and Owen Olsen visited Jean. Cathy Ewart, of Assiniboia, brought her two grandchildren, Emily and Olivia Paliuk, to see Janet Mark.
