Carmel Catholic is...

Carmel Catholic High School empowers students to be...

Reflective Thinkers,

As an institution of learning, Carmel Catholic’s goal is to empower students to think for themselves – to approach new challenges and situations in a thoughtful manner. We empower students to reflect upon the concepts they learn and to apply them within and outside of a discipline of study.

Grateful Stewards

The Carmel Catholic legacy of spreading the gospel message is apparent in prayer services and school liturgies, service to the community, outreach to the poor and care and concern for our planet. Through such work, students come to better appreciate what they have been given, and find themselves happy to employ their own gifts to better their communities.

and Responsible Leaders

At Carmel Catholic, we empower students to recognize their gifts so that they can lead responsibly. We provide students opportunities to assume leadership roles in the classroom, in clubs and on teams, but leadership is more than just a position or title; students also lead by example, modeling behaviors and attitudes that improve the thinking and learning that takes place. We call on students to recognize their responsibility to their communities large and small and to act in those communities in responsible ways, cognizant of the impact their choices can have upon others and the world around them. ...as an expression of faith. 2

For more than 50 years, Carmel Catholic High School has continued a rich tradition of academic excellence. As a college preparatory school, we strive to provide every opportunity for students to succeed. As a Corsair, you will join a thriving community of more than 14,000 alumni that continue to lead lives of faith and service well beyond their high school years. 3

ENHANCING LEARNING THROUGH TECHNOLOGY • 1:1 Student Computing Program: In 2012, Carmel Catholic launched its 1:1 Student Computing Program, positioning Carmel Catholic as the leading digital high school in Lake County and among the first in the Chicago area. The 1:1 program enables each student to have his or her own tablet computer. Should an issue arise with a student’s tablet, the Tab Lab is open throughout the school day for expert technology support. Carmel Catholic passed the appropriate certifications to become a self-maintainer for the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablets, so they are serviced in-house whenever possible. Additionally, each classroom is fully equipped with a screen projector and sound system that attaches to the teacher’s laptop. • Information Commons: During the summer of 2013, Carmel Catholic completed renovating, expanding and upgrading its existing library to transform it into a state-of-the-art Information Commons. New features include small group study rooms, a 10-station Apple Mac lab and an audio/media production studio. • Edline: A secure and user-friendly website provides parents and students with timely and direct access to current grades, homework assignments, class progress, attendance and general school news. HONORS & AP CLASSES • A variety of Honors and AP courses are targeted to students who have excellent academic performance. The Honors Program is specifically designed to meet the needs of high performing and motivated students. During sophomore through senior years, students may take advanced placement classes, allowing them to earn college credit. There are 19 AP and 52 Honors courses offered at Carmel Catholic. CARLOS J. SERNA LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER • The Serna Center aims to ensure the success of Carmel Catholic students with special needs, identified in either an IEP/ISP or a 504 Plan, by offering students assistance from certified learning resource specialists. 7
