CHOREOGRAPHY SERIES POSTER This project was to create a poster for five choreographers: Merce Cunningham, Mark Morris, Martha Graham, Pina Bausch, and Alvin Ailey. At the beginning of the semester, we did calligraphic exercises to music which later transformed into the illustrations for this assignment.

TYPEFACE DESIGN We tackled this project at the beginning of sophomore year. It turned out to be quite a challenge seeing as I was completely new to typography. I decided to name it Cornmeal because while I deciding on what to name it, I had an intense craving for cornbread. 32

GEOLOGY OF TIME Geology of Time is a collection of poems by Judith Wilde. In them, the author observes and discovers things about the world around her. With that in mind, this bookâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s design is based off of a scientific journal, made with handwritten text, diagrams, and botanical illustrations. 49

GATES OF EDEN Gates of Eden is a collection of short stories by Ethan Coen, largely about incompetent gangsters and ludicrous jews or the occasional ludicrous incompetent gangster jew. I based my designs off of memorable itemsâ&#x20AC;&#x201D; made out of paper craftsâ&#x20AC;&#x201D; that play important roles in the stories.

THE FIVE ESSENTIAL TYPEFACES Massimo Vignelli once said, “A designer should use only these five typefaces: Bodoni, Helvetica, Times Roman, Century, and Futura.” In my Basic Graphic Design class, we did type explorations of the five essential typefaces, eventually creating a zine to share with the rest of the class. In it contains a brief history of the typeface and it’s creator, as well as a few of our favorite type explorations.

CHOREOGRAPHY SERIES BOOKS For this project, we were instructed to watch dances by Martha Graham, Pina Bausch, Merce Cunningham, Alvin Ailey, and Mark Morris and create book covers based on their individual style. Their preformances touched me so deeply that I almost wanted to drop out of art school and dance for the rest of my life.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST Quite simply a masterpiece, Sergio Leoneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s revisionist western is a mythic spectacle of a film and a landmark in cinema history. I was blessed by my graphic design teacher to try and design the DVD packaging of a movie so pure and magnificent.

LOGO FOR A CLASSMATE In my Basic Graphic Design class, we were instructed to interview a classmate on their interests so we could design the identity for a company they would own. My partner was the lovely Viktoriya Tsoy, who has a passion for bakeries, organic things, and being Russian. I combined the three to make an organic Russian bakery named Medovik + Leaf, named after the popular Russian cake.

BOSCH WINDSHEILD WIPERS

Windsheild wipers are a commonly overlooked part of a car, no matter how important they are. Bad wipers leave streaks on the window impacting visibility of the road ahead. This ad gives the audience a Rorschach test, mimicking various window streaks that remind people with bad wipers to upgrade to Bosch.

MUSCLE MILK Muscle Milk is a line of proteinenhanced powders and shakes for people looking to build muscle. This campaign is a series of simple quotes that people with typically low muscle mass would say.

WEATHER CHANNEL We waste money when the weather catches us unexpectedly. Thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s why the Weather Channel installed vending machines around the city to give out promotional packs of sunscreen, hats, ponchos, umbrellas, and sunglasses to people who perhaps forgot to check the weather that day.
