MONGOLIAN ENGLISH LESSON 6
The vowels? They have gender
In Mongolian like in other few languages, for example in Hungarian, their is the tendency to change both the stem and the ending of a word according to make it better sound.
In indoeuropean language this approach is not so common and usually the stem is untouched, however in Mongolian the vowel are divided in masculine and feminine and they are not mixed, the only exceptions are the names and the words related to geography
The vowels are then divided in two groups:
Group I: а, о, у, Я, ё, Ю, ы
Group II: Э,Ө (a different o), Ү (a different u),
Neuter vowels that can be used in a mixed approach: й, и both are equivalent to the English ”e”
The vowel harmony in a way compensate the different use of the harsh consonants like l and r.
