EPPUR SI MUOVE “And yet it moves” or “Albeit it does move” (Italian: E pur si muove or Eppur si muove ) is a phrase attributed to the Italian mathematician, physicist and philosopher Galileo Galilei (1564–1642) in 1633 after being forced to recant his claims that the Earth moves around the Sun rather than the converse during the Galileo affair.1 “Eppur si muove” is a research about animation of architectural drawings. The research explores the possibility to revitalize the drawings through GIF animation inlcuding time and movement. Through isolated movement of part of image I try to give form to my interpretation of it and focus the attention on some concepts. As if in these pictures, there was a frozen movement that can be revitalized through animation. A blog will register my work so that results can be showed in real time and readers can express their impressions and suggestions. [1]New Scientist, April 7, 1983. p25. THE PAVILION TO DO NOTHING Central Park, the largest structure for leisure in New York, is a carpet placed in the Manhattan’s grid. Most of its visitors just want to relax and enjoy the picturesque landscapes it offers. We chose to set the pavilion in the north-east of Sheep Meadow, the ideal stage where in summer the activity of doing nothing takes place, in a triangle of the Carpet that matches the view on the park with the other of the skyscrapers. With a series of carpets placed inside a small podium, relfecting Central Park with in Manhattan’s Grid, and under a big polka dot roof, we to recreate the extreme condition of idleness and fun. A Ball pit, lycra foam mattress, trampoline and sandbox are the carpets that we have put into the podium with the idea that these are meant to be changed whenever they get tiring. Many different activities can take place in the pavilion or outside it, choosing an active way, to use the carpets, like watching a movie sitting among the balls, a fashion show sitting on the sand or just using them as a backdrop for a stage. XYZ TABLE “Tables are the vehicle of every gathering; in every space the table becomes the meeting point. From the kitchen table that acts like the private meeting point in a house, until the sea of café tables that flood the public spaces [...], there is a range of different uses of space around tables where food, coffee and information is constantly being consumed.”1 XYZ Table is a neutral linear modular device designed for food consumption in the street, that may be endlessly extended and with a variable configuration. It has the task of giving back a considerable degree of freedom and creativity to its users as opposed to a traditional furniture element. The user directly modifies the shape of the public space, weak and unstable, and become an actor of a process that calls him to interact with it. The module is made of an aluminum frame on wheels which measures 1,30 x 2,10 m and holding a wood panel, height-adjustable, and two beams on wich stuff can putted on. Aluminium rods are assembled through plastic joints. The device does not impose its own aesthetic but being just a basic structure can be transformed every time. XYZ KITCHEN In March 2015, [AC-CA] launched an international competition in order to design a gourmet street-food structure to be placed on site of the Berliner Fernsehturm or Alexanderplatz tout court. The project is an attempt to redefine the concept of street-food itself. XYZ kitchen is a shared infrastructure to communities allowing several different uses. Sharing takes place in public spaces as an alternative to state and private ownership and it helps people with recovering and spreading their traditions. Culinary traditions reflect and define social interactions in every community and, at the same time, undergo a number of adaptations, broadenings, transformations, diffusions, just as if they gave birth to a sort of open-source cultural genealogy. XYZ kitchen is a DIY, low cost, modular and flexible system, a structural frame of an unfinished - and therefore weak - architectural object that encourages people in order to facilitate collective and open design processes. It redefines interaction among people: there are no customers, no merchants, and everyone is an user. Boundaries no longer exist. Users can choose how to use it and the choice implicates a permanent settlement or nomadism. Multiculturalism influences urban environment and it is also influenced by the urban environment in turn: the permeable system allows their interaction by considering the need of every food culture. XYZ kitchen consists of a lightweight transportable aluminium grid, made of seven blocks of three 80 x 80 x 80 cm modules. The grids can be combined an infinite number of times. XYZ kitchen is completely neutral, it doesn’t impose an aesthetic choice as it is a simple essential structure that can be used for any purpose. It is not a negation of style, but the style of negation. The combination allows it to be supplied with different items and movable countertops, capable of moving vertically thanks to a rack and pinion system. A stainless steel upholstery with a PVC covering is also provided. OFFICIA MUSEUM Officia Museum is a system of corporate museums showing the creative processes of some poles of the Mediterranean. Hence the need to create a new kind of architectural principles free from the traditional design of the museum. The idea is to have a non-formal, highly permeable and non-permanent structure. The activities are temporary and therefore also the system-building responds in its parts to this character. The scheme is very simple: it’s composed of steel structure with a 5m module, that is the plot and imprisons volumes hosting various functions. The tube, which wants to break the regular grid, allows the crossing of the two banks and connects all the different activities. The Officia Museum is designed as a flexible system in which roofs, walls and floors can vary their position continuously with very few constraints. The system is designed in continuous evolution: it can expand, densify, shrink, move or disassemble. The plot of the system also extends to the urban context and buildings. In the case of buildings, some of poor architectural quality, the plot becomes colors or patterns that involve the context and put in relation with the system. The public space becomes a dynamic set of modular spaces that can potentially accommodate different activities. DSFA The city of Detroit, Michigan, has gone through a major economic and demographic decline in recent decades. The population of the city has fallen and the cityscape has become dominated by abandoned buildings. American art scene, so moved from Brooklyn to Detroit for the cheap rent and huge amount of space, so different from each other, free to occupy. The most emblematic abandonment is the central railway station, the Michigan Central Station. The station began operating as Detroit’s main passenger depot in 1913 after the older Michigan Central Station burned on December 26, 1913. After 92 years of activity, not always to its full potential, this facility was definitively closed in June 2004. Once an object of great civic pride, is a ruin today which seems frozen through time. The DSFA (Detroit station for the arts) project aims to transform the abandoned building into a hybrid building full of life, a center for the Arts. The project is considering the time factor. Indeed, the principle is to develop a new independent structure, that reminds the building yard structure, to host exhibition area. This structure can be removed or increased, depending on future needs of Detroit. The new facade is the backbone of the building. The large metal structure is like a canvas with the daily lives of the artists. So it transforms the image of the building from a dead icon into something dynamical and always in motion. Our intervention in the Ground Floor is materialized by an independent element that is added to the space. This independent element consists of floor, wall, posts and beams. Thus the Ground Floor, the main reception area, the new structure is a floor placed 5 meters high, providing access to architectural details that were previously invisible to our eyes and it lets people live the space in a new way. Exhibition areas, large and small auditoriums, workshops, showrooms and cafes give the building new life. To have a diversity of spaces on the other floors, the concept is to mix the activities, and circulation. The project works on the floors with three different typologies. The first typology has a central circulation and there are Residences A (50mq) on the south and the Ateliers A (50mq) on the north side. The second typology has circulation on the facade and rooms are mixed with residences and ateliers. The third floor has both ways of circulation. The abandoned railway infrastructure, a connection between canada and the united states, can be a physical extension of the building. The cars can travel and bring to the the area exhibition the work of the artists. Architecture competition, 2015 Detroit station for the arts by Archmedium w/ Viviane Florin http://goo.gl/aGJ9ZL

QUADRILATERE ESPACE (C)OUVERT The Quadrilatère is the most symbolic building of the University of Namur. This building is the origin of the birth of the University (the Jesuit monastery) and it’s the evidence of the University of Namur’s evolution during the last century. Today it has lost its power as strategic hub and seems to be flooded in the university structure. We have chosen to set the building as a place of reunion for everyone who live the University in order to restore it as a new center for the site. The principle thus is to have a project to the scale of University community in order to transform a lost place into on ful of life. If we look at the building today we can see in its center an abandoned court, none of the functions of the ground floor feeds the space and it’s really outside University’s life. The first step made to manage the central space was to cover it, while working the space as a more open and free. To allow a bigger contribution of light, four floors, on two sides of the building, were removed by restoring the height of the Jesuit monastery. To answer the functional needs, the building was designed as two L shaped plans: one L more locked, with needs in term of classroom and offices, and directly linked with other buildings of the block. The other L is more open to be an element of exchange communicating with the heart of the block. So the space of ceremony works with 4 elements: the mineral yard, the vegetable yard, the sky and the new entrance. For the central space we worked an independent structure on 4 columns which works as a dome and which allows the contribution of light and to have a free space. Between columns the space is worked as a forum with bleachers and a ramp. The central space is surrounded by activities which feed the place: a cafeteria, the entrance, classrooms, a new auditorium, a library for the students. The circulation around the central space was worked in a more original way: traffic lanes, which become spaces for study and rest.
