What is Information Systems?

Graduates of the Information Systems program learn how to use information to make decisions. They use the power of computers and information technology tools to generate, process and distribute information so that businesses or organizations achieve their objectives in an effective, efficient way. The discipline also focuses on the processes that an organization can implement or improve using information systems.

Graduates of the program in Qatar are recruited by a wide range of employers, including KPMG, Shell, Qatar Petroleum, RasGas, Doha Film Institute, ictQatar and Qatar Airways. In Pittsburgh, graduates have historically pursued careers at leading software organizations such as Microsoft, IBM Consulting, Oracle, Google, Yahoo and Amazon. Banks such as Credit Suisse, HSBC and Citigroup, various government organizations, and hospitals are also traditional employers for information systems graduates.

What the Program Involves

Get Started

The ability to bring together people, processes and technology to yield effective results is a rare skill. Employers recognize the need for talented, visionary thinkers who can solve problems and imagine a better way.

The Information Systems program has its foundations in professional core courses in which students learn the basic skills necessary to analyze, design, implement and test information systems using current and emerging organizational and technological practices.

Two of these courses are project-based experiences in which small groups develop and communicate solutions to real information problems for clients.

Students may specialize in social and global aspects of technology, in technology and applications development, in applications of technology to business, or in user experience in design. The program offers breadth by exposing students to four areas fundamental to understanding and solving problems in information systems: organizations, decision making, research methods and professional communications. Information systems appeals to outstanding students gifted in communication, languages, teamwork, technology and problem solving. Students interested in acquiring project management, business and organizational skills, as well as professionalism and a code of ethics, are invited to apply.

‫يرتكز برنامج أنظمة املعلومات عىل مقررات رئيسية‪ ،‬يدرس فيها الطالب املهارات األساسية‬ ‫املطلوبة لتحليل أنظمة املعلومات‪ ،‬وتصميمها ومن ثم اختبارها ضمن مسارات تطبيقية وعملية‬ ‫منظمة‪.‬‬ ‫ويعتمد اثنان من هذه املقررات عىل التجارب العملية‪ ،‬من خالل تقسيم الطالب إىل مجموعات‬ ‫صغرية‪ ،‬تعمل عىل إيجاد حلول ملشاكل تقنية ومعلوماتية لعمالء حقيقيني‪.‬‬ ‫وميكن للطالب أن يتخصصوا يف دراسة الجوانب اإلجتامعية الشاملة للتكنولوجيا‪ ،‬أو يف‬ ‫تكنولوجيا وتطوير التطبيقات‪ ،‬أو يف تطبيقات األعامل التقنية‪ ،‬إىل جانب إمكانية دراسة تجربة‬ ‫العمالء يف التصميم‪.‬‬ ‫ويوسع برنامج أنظمة املعلومات من آفاق الطالب عرب تعريفهم عىل املجاالت األربعة األساسية‬ ‫يف فهم وحل مشاكل أنظمة املعلومات‪ ،‬وهي‪ :‬املنظامت‪ ،‬واتخاذ القرار‪ ،‬ومناهج البحث والتواصل‬ ‫املهني‪.‬‬
