Founded in 1923, Buckley Country Day School is a mission-driven, independent co-educational day school that serves 355 children in grades toddler through eight. Buckley provides the foundation that enables students to achieve their full potential and excel as educated, ethical, and self-confident individuals. The school emphasizes the mastery of both fundamental skills as well as skills to ensure success in the fast-changing globally-oriented world. The building houses all the classrooms, three science labs, a new Innovation Lab (iLab), an art studio, a woodshop, a black box theater and three gymnasiums. Every classroom in grades 1-8 is equipped with SMART Board technology to enhance teaching and learning. Director of Development & Alumni Affairs: The Director of Development and Alumni Relations reports to the Headmaster. The primary role of the Development Director is to cultivate internal and external relationships, to foster a spirit of good will with all Buckley constituents, to raise funds to support the school’s mission, and to manage the operation of the department. The Development Director supervises the Development Assistant and the Assistant Director of Development for Parents’ Association and Special Events.
Major Functions and Responsibilities: Manage Alumni Relations, including the Alumni Association, its leadership group, the Alumni Executive Committee, and its sub-committees. Advise the Headmaster and Board of Trustees on long-range planning for institutional advancement Manage Annual Fund, including coordination of AF campaign as well as cultivation and solicitation of all constituencies Oversee and coordinate Fall Fair and Spring Gala Initiate Alumni outreach Assist in planning and managing all capital fundraising efforts Increase planned giving awareness Oversee donor database management of 3,500 plus constituent records and be responsible for all department reporting
Experience and Skills: Substantial experience and a proven track record of success in the management and direction of Development and Alumni Relations. Demonstrated significant volunteer management experience. Knowledge of educational fundraising culture is an asset. Deep appreciation and understanding of the School’s mission and the ability to articulate its values and vision internally and externally. Ability to work independently and as a member of a high performance team in a fastpaced environment. Ability to work with senior administrators and faculty on a collegial basis. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively and efficiently. Excellent written and oral communication skills Well versed in development trends in higher/independent school education. Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.
Compensation and Benefits: The appointment is a full-time, year round, administrative position and the compensation package will be very competitive nationally and commensurate with experience, degree attainment and the national independent school and college markets.
