Tower Hill School is a coeducational private school for ages 3 - Grade 12, dedicated to living its motto Multa Bene Facta — Many Things Done Well. As the School celebrates its centennial in 2019 and is currently finalizing a robust Strategic Plan, the Upper School Head will have a clear road map in order to enhance and build upon a strong service learning program, STEAM and interdisciplinary work, curricular innovation across all disciplines, and a commitment to ensure professional development at an even higher level for Tower Hill teachers. The Upper School Head is is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Upper School Division (grades 9 - 12). Specifically, the Division Head oversees the curriculum, budget, citizenship, attendance, advisor program, and growth of the Upper School so that it becomes a beacon for the rest of the school, creating distinguishing program features that set it apart from other area schools in caliber and offerings. Along with the Head of School, the Division Head carries out the process of teacher supervision, evaluation, and professional development. The Upper School Head works collaboratively with two other Div ision Heads, Class Deans, Dean of Students, and Department Chairs. The successful candidate will have the energy, experience, and determination to work collaboratively to create buy-in with faculty and students - to continue to build a healthy, warm, friendly, diverse, academic and extracurricular culture where each student is respected for who he/she is and in which rigor is truly enhanced by balance and wellbeing. The Upper School Head must be able to relate to students while also being confident in hard decisions, often putting at odds the desire to be “liked” or popular with all students at all times. The Upper School Head must also be able to lead amidst exciting curricular change, including the evolution of the Upper School schedule, ensuring more op portunities for experiential, innovative, and global teaching and learning. Specifically, the responsibilities of the Head of Upper School include: I. ACADEMIC A. The Head of Upper School is responsible for the academic program of the Upper School. T his includes supervision of the Upper School academic program and coordinating the academic program between the departments. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in leading faculty through change and curricular growth. The Head of Upp er School is also responsible for maintaining a positive and mission appropriate environment for all members of the Upper School community.
II. FACULTY A. The Head of Upper School is responsible for the growth, development, and supervision of Upper School faculty. 1. Chairing all Upper School faculty meetings and attending all grade level meetings. 2. Orienting new Upper School faculty members at the start of the school year and following up with Upper School faculty. 3. Supervising and enhancing the Upper School advisor system, supporting student leadership, and assigning advisors and advisees in conjunction with the Dean of Students. 4. Committees: a) Calendar Committee. Planning and arranging the scheduling of the yearly cycle of events for the entire school year: field trips, special events, special days, concerts, plays, etc. b) Admission Committee. When solicited by the Director of Admission, interviewing and helping to select candidates for the Upper School. c) Parents Committee. Attending and reporting on the Upper School at meetings. 5. Supervising faculty reviews with department chairs. 6. Reviewing yearly faculty evaluations with department chairs and the Head of School, and following up yearly with conferences with faculty. 7. Working collaboratively with department chairs to aid in faculty growth and development. 8. Maintaining high faculty morale while creating and building upon a specific rubric for faculty evaluation and growth that include clear expectations about being an excellent teacher and community member at Tower Hill. 9. Assisting the Head of School and Dean of Hiring with the interviewing and selection of teaching candidates. 10. Helping to determine all non-academic faculty assignments. III. STUDENTS A. The Head of Upper School is responsible and supervises those who are responsible for all aspects of student life. 1. Supervising and supporting the Upper School Dean of Students. 2.
