Volunteer Spotlight: Shannon Bueno Shannon Bueno has volunteered with the Park District for more than a year. She is a student at Glenbard North High School and lives in Carol Stream. You may have seen Shannon at the Park District’s Preschool Fun Fair, Lunch with Dracula, Earth Day, Bunny Bash, Toddler Campfire and Dolly and Me Party. She is a familiar face at the Park District, always ready to lend a hand a share a smile.

Insurance The Park District does not carry medical or accident insurance for program participants or park patrons. Please review your personal health insurance plan to be certain that you and your family have proper coverage.

Financial Assistance We offer financial assistance/scholarships for qualified Carol Stream Park District residents. Confidential applications are available at the Simkus Recreation Center.

Shannon says that the community has changed her to be a better person through her volunteer experiences. “I have learned patience and understanding through my work with children and adults over the last year. My community has changed me!” Sports Volunteers Without a solid volunteer base, hundreds of local children would miss out on the experience of playing on a league team for soccer, baseball, softball and basketball. Please consider giving some time to the children of the community.

Our goal is your satisfaction! If you are not completely satisfied with any Carol Stream Park District program, class or event, please tell us! We will work to earn your satisfaction. If you are still not completely satisfied, we will transfer your registration to another program or session, or issue you a refund. That’s our guarantee!

Help is always needed at our community events. General duties and responsibilities include: Assisting staff with set up, running activity stations, serving refreshments and clean up. Registration Information

The Carol Stream Park District Board of Commissioners consists of seven individuals who are elected by the community to represent the communityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s best interests. The charge of the Board is to set policies that will guide the Park District. Board members serve a four-year term and receive no compensation for the time they give. They come from a variety of backgrounds but share one important trait - a commitment to serving the park and recreational needs of our community.

Board Meetings Regularly scheduled meetings of the Board are held on the second and/or the fourth Monday of each month according to a schedule adopted by the Board yearly. Please check our website for our current meeting schedule. Regular Board Meetings open at 7:00 pm.

Volleykids Beach Camp Volleykids is an introductory class for children in grade k-2. The lesson plan introduces the pass, set and spike using a very light volleyball. REQUESTS

1. Register online at csparks.org or use the registration form in this guide.

1. One mutual friendship request per player will be honored for players in Preschool thru Grade 2.

2. Registration is by grade level. Players are to be registered for the grade the player is currently in.

2. One practice day conflict form per player will be accepted for players at all levels.

3. Preschoolers must be entering kindergarten for the 2011/2012 school year.

Team m i w S Join the Dolphins Swim Team The summer swim team is designed to accommodate every level from a novice swimmer to a highly competitive age group of swimmers. Each coach strives to develop the swimmers to their fullest potential, while preparing for the next level. Parent volunteers are needed to work at all swim meets. Meets are held Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings. Price includes: team shirt, conference fee, ribbons, trophy, and end of season party.

Swim Lessons The Bartlett Park Districtâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s swim lesson program is for swimmers of all ages. On the first day of lessons parents will receive a parent manual which explains each of the levels in depth. For those who have already been in our swim lesson program, please sign your child up for lessons according to a previous swim lesson report card. Our preschool programs provide some of the most affordable preschool programs in Carol Stream, with a convenient monthly EZ pay option also available.

Age Appropriate Our programs are tailored to each age group. Classes include Pathway to Preschool for 2 1/2 year olds, 3 year old Preschool, 4 year old Preschool, and Pathway to Kindergarten for more advanced 4 year olds.

Picnic shelters are available for rental April through October. Rent them for parties, picnics, reunions or weddings! Information packets with locations, amenities and reservation guidelines are available from Simkus Recreation Center. All picnic shelters are open for free use unless they are reserved. Just Play Party Wagon Wow the crowd at your next party or picnic with our Just Play Party Wagon! The fun-making trailer is stocked with 10 lightweight tables, 100 lightweight chairs, a 10’ by 10’ pop-up canopy, a super-sized charcoal grill, games and a sound system. We’ll even deliver it right to your door! The Party Wagon is available April - October. Reservations begin February 1 every year. Cost is $99. The Coral Cove Water Park is available for rentals during the summer on Fridays and Saturdays from 8:15 pm 10:15 pm and on Sundays from 7:15 pm to 9:15 pm. We have packages for your small group of up to 50 or for a larger group up to 1500. Full payment is required to secure a date. Rentals may be canceled due to inclement weather at the manager’s discretion and can be rescheduled if dates are open.

Coyote Crossing Mini-Golf Rental Have a Puttin’ Picnic at Coyote Crossing! Rentals are for a minimum of one hour or in full-hour increments. You can reserve your space for as many hours you want to stay and play all day! Mini-golf is additional. Bring your own picnic or make it a party with pizza, pop, and other great options from our add-on menu.

The Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA), in cooperation with the Carol Stream Park District, offers a variety of fun and educational programs and services for individuals with special needs. With caring, dedicated and trained staff, WDSRA provides more than 1,500 programs, trips and special events year round to children and adults with disabilities. Special Recreation The benefits of recreation extend far beyond the soccer field or the dance floor. The skills that are learned and practiced in leisure provide a tremendous foundation for life. For an individual with a disability, recreational activities can improve self-confidence, provide socialization opportunities, and reinforce a sense of teamwork and tolerance. They can establish friendships and gain social independence. The benefits are endless!

Volunteers/Part Time Staff We are looking for caring people with a desire to give a little. Volunteers are needed to assist in a variety of programs from sports to crafts to special events. Three new playgrounds now open

Three new playgrounds, the first of the 2010 referendum projects, are now complete and open for use. The playgrounds at Sundance park, Stonebridge Park and Jirsa Park, were redesigned with input from local residents and all feature new play equipment. WAIVER REGISTRATION/BROCHURE WAIVER & RELEASE IMPORTANT INFORMATION The Carol Stream Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Carol Stream Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participantsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; safety. However, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for the above listed programs/activities must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities/programs. You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward are physically fit and/or skilled for the activities contemplated by this agreement. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness, injury or impairment, to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity. WARNING OF RISK Recreational activities are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers and injuries due to inclement weather, slip and falls, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities exist. In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the Carol Stream Park District to guarantee absolute safety. WAIVER AND RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in the programs listed, you will be expressly assuming the risk and legal liability and waiving and releasing all claims for injuries, damages or loss which you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a Result of participating in any and all activities connected with and associated with these programs (including transportation services and vehicle operations, when provided).
