If your lawn is still showing the effects of last summer’s drought, now is the time to add some extra grass seed. Check the label before you purchase grass seedm, Straight seed bags include only one type of grass and is suited to situations where you want to achieve a certain look or effect. Blends include several grass seed types, which are best for disease resistance and a uniform lawn. The label will also state the germination rate (look for rates over 75%) and the weed percentage (look for rates of less than 0.5% for best results). Cool season grass varities including Kentucky Blue Grass, fine fescues and perennial Ryegrass are recommended for the climate in Northern Illinois.

Skyhawks Beginning Golf Camp

RHP

Skyhawks Golf focuses on building the confidence of young athletes by teaching proper technique to refine essential skills of the game. Golf is a challenging and lifelong sport, so young athletes need proper focus on the fundamentals of form, swinging, putting, and body positioning. To assist in this training, Skyhawks has adopted the SNAG (Starting New At Golf) system to its curriculum. SNAG utilizes a set of equipment designed for beginning golfers, including oversized plastic club heads and “mini tennis balls” to help build confidence and to have fun. Developed by PGA professionals, SNAG is specifically designed for the entrylevel player; SNAG simplifies instruction so that young players can make an easy and effective transition onto the golf course. No need to bring your own clubs--all equipment is provided. We keep the instructor-to-camper ratio low, resulting in limited availability. These programs fill up quickly. All participants receive a t-shirt and a merit award. The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 8:1. Participants should bring appropriate clothing, two snacks, a water bottle, running shoes, and sunscreen. Fee: 33003

Sports League FAQs

How do I register? Register online at csparks.org or use the registration form in this guide. By registering your child you agree to comply with the Parent Code of Conduct which can be accessed on the home web page of each youth sports league and is discussed by the coach at their pre-season parent meeting.

What happens if I register after the deadline?

How do I register for tee ball, soccer, lacrosse and high school leagues?

Players placed on a wait list are not guaranteed placement on a team. If you register before team formation, the player will be moved off the wait list if there are enough to form an additional team. However, if you register after team formation, or if another team cannot be formed, placement will only be done when a team or teams are below the established maximum number of team participants. Players will not be added to any team one week prior to the first scheduled game.

Registration is by grade level. Players are to be registered for the grade the player will be in for the 2013/14 school year. Preschoolers must be entering kindergarten for the 2014/15 school year.

Can I request for my child to be placed on a specific team?

Registration is by age. Players are to be registered based on their age as of December 31, 2012.

No, due to the nature of the program, we cannot accept any other coach, player, or carpool requests. However one mutual friendship request will be honored for players in an instructional league, (8U) baseball and softball, or grade 1 & 2 soccer. A park district request form must be used for these requests and the guidelines listed on the form must be followed. These forms are available at Simkus Recreation Center and on our web site. Request deadlines are the same as registration deadlines (not early bird).

Can my child play up?

How do I volunteer to help?

Playing up is not allowed for instructional soccer or tee ball.

Volunteers are used for the following position:

For all other leagues playing up is allowed by one age or grade level but the following process must be adhered to:

Coaches

League Coordinators

Planning Committees

How do I register for youth baseball? Registration is by age. Players are to be registered based on their age as of April 30, 2013.

How do I register for youth softball?

1. The player must register at his or her age or grade. 2. A request to play up must be made to the program supervisor. 3. The player must attend the evaluation day for the sport and must attend at the time designated for the requested league/ level (i.e. if a player should be playing in the Mustang league but wants to play in the Bronco league, player must attend the Bronco player evaluation).

34

Applications are available at Simkus and on the home web page of each youth sports league. These leagues can be accessed at: www.csparks.org/index.php/sports/youthsports/
