Before the CURTAIN RISES, dancers and choreographers, costume designers, stage crew, production staff, and musicians spend countless hours preparing. From studio rehearsals and costume fittings to building sets and designing lighting, the amount of work that goes into a Carolina Ballet production before the dancers hit the stage is truly remarkable.

Join us as the CURTAIN RISES for our 2019-2020 Season! This season is full of drama, passion, and beauty. With everything from classic stories to inspiring new works, and plenty of LIVE music, there is truly something for everyone!
In the spirit of Halloween, Artistic Director Zalman Raffael, will present his brand new Frankenstein in October. Founding Artistic Director, Robert Weiss will choreograph a new ballet set to Beethoven’s 7th Symphony in November and we are honored to announce a collaboration of all female choreographers in the Spring!
For the first time ever, we are excited to introduce our live music series! There’s nothing like experiencing a powerful ballet accompanied by live music. We welcome back the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle for Weiss’ new Beethoven piece in the Fall as well as for Macbeth and Cinderella in the Spring.
No Carolina Ballet season is complete without the classics! We’ll open with George Balanchine’s iconic Rubies and later present Raffael’s moving Rhapsody Of course, December will be the month of The Nutcracker and in May the enchanting tale of Cinderella, featuring a re-imagined score by Karl Moraski, will close out the year.

When Macbeth premiered in 2016, it was one of the most anticipated ballets ever created by Robert Weiss. Featuring brilliant choreography, fascinating sets & costumes, and an incredibly powerful score by J. Mark Scearce (Dracula, Love in the Times of the Day), Macbeth weaves a tale of love, power, lust, and greed.

“Having been subscribers and supporters since the first season, and now watching as our children are attending with spouses and friends, it is magical to see something so exceptional continued to be enjoyed and valued by the next generation. I can’t wait until I can take my three granddaughters to their first performances of The Nutcracker!”
Mindy Solie, DURHAM, NC
“Steve and I relocated from NYC to the Triangle in April 2008. We were concerned about leaving the strong cultural community of Manhattan. Over time we were delighted to experience a vibrant arts community within the Triangle. We were especially impressed with Carolina Ballet. The excellent quality and creativity of choreography, dancing and new works were most impressive.”
