Walt Disney releases his second full-length animated film, “Pinocchio.”

It’s also the year Charles Winchester meets Myrtle Biggers.

The couple grew up just a few miles apart – Myrtle in Wesley Chapel off Beulah Church Road and Charles in Mineral Springs, near Pleasant Grove. They even played basketball against each other at school. But it wasn't until a fateful Saturday night years later (see Love Story on page 7)

From farm girl to beauty queen, from lost to found

WEDDINGTON – Norma Joyce Dougherty knows what it’s like to gain the world but lose herself in the process.

Dougherty grew up in Prince Edward Island, Canada, in a “poor-as-churchmice� family – until 1970, when she won a national beauty pageant in Canada.

Almost overnight, Norma Dougherty Dougherty became a world traveler as she went on to compete in Miss World, Miss Universe and Queen of the Pacific, and the Miss International pageant, where she placed as a semi-finalist.

But despite the fame and fortune, something was missing. “I felt as though the growth was so phenomenal that I lost a sense of who I was, a sense of belonging,� Dougherty said. “I went from one dichotomy to another – the ‘you-don’t-knowwho-you-are’ area.�

Now a resident of Weddington and a published author, Dougherty is sharing her story in her memoir, “Island Girl: A Triumph of the Spirit.� Dubbed a “real-life fairytale,� the book tells the story of Dougherty’s journey from a poor farm girl to an international success, how she lost her way and eventually found herself through her faith.

Along the way, Dougherty realized her sense of belonging wouldn’t be found in more fame, education or financial success – a “personal relationship� with Jesus Christ brought her hope and healing.

Despite being strong in faith, Dougherty doesn’t consider herself “religious� and corrects those who refer to her as such. “A lot of people who have read my book say, ‘Oh, my gosh. You have become so religious,’�

Dougherty said. “I’d say not religious – there is a difference between organized religion and a loving, personal relationship with my Lord and Savior.�

The book took Dougherty nearly four years to write. She confesses she had “no idea how to write a book� and did a lot of research prior to beginning. “Island Girl� has received positive reviews since its August 2015 release. Tate Publishing and Enterprises picked up the book, which is now available in bookstores nationwide, as well as on BarnesAndNoble.com and Amazon.com.

Dougherty had opportunities to speak at author talks and other events, including some women’s lunches, and said people seem to connect well with the book. She hopes people who read “Island Girl� will be inspired to discover what truly matters – and what doesn’t – in life. “All this running and chasing we do is like chasing after the wind,� she said. “Everything is meaningless unless we have true peace in our hearts – that peace described in scripture, the peace that guards our mind.�

Buffalo Bills enters Panthers’ lair NFL cornerback buys house near hometown

WAXHAW – Stephon Gilmore is used to taking offensive opportunities away from the likes of NFL quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, but he just scored his best steal yet – in real estate.

Gilmore, who plays cornerback for the Buffalo Bills, bought a two-story, five-bedroom home last month in the Longview subdivision for $870,000. The Waxhaw neighborhood consists of many million-dollar homes, including one that sold for $2.75 million in December.

County real estate records show Gilmore’s home, built in 2008, consists of nearly 5,100 square feet on 0.4 acres. Amenities mentioned included on the Realtor.com listing include bathrooms in each bedroom, a home office, guest suite and stone patio with fenced yard.

Why would a Buffalo Bills player move to Carolina Panthers country?

Gilmore is a Rock Hill native and built a reputation at South Pointe High School as one of the nation’s top football recruits. He went on to attend the University of South Carolina, where he was an All-American.

The Bills picked the junior 10th overall in the 2012 NFL Draft. Carolina could have selected Gilmore with the ninth pick, but chose linebacker Luke Kuechly instead. The Panthers also drafted cornerback Josh Norman in the

fifth round that year.

In four seasons, Gilmore has tallied 178 tackles, 50 pass deflections and nine interceptions.

His 2015 season was cut short Dec. 6 when he injured against the Houston Texans. He had 36 tackles, 18 pass deflections and three interceptions.

Gilmore married Charlotte native Gabrielle Glenn in July 2014 at Ballantyne Hotel.

Glenn was a star track athlete at Providence Day High School in Charlotte and at South Carolina. She was an All-American in the 4x400 meter relay during her junior year.

Glenn and Gilmore welcomed their first child, Sebastian, last year. Gilmore has posted photos of Sebastian on his Instagram account (@bumpnrungilmore) and held him during an interview with ESPN. Gilmore will reportedly make $11 million in 2016.

Four things I’ve learned as a community journalist I don’t like being unprepared. It’s one of the worst feelings in the world.

So, I’ve bought into the “prepare yourself � hype countless times over the years.

High schools pride themselves on preparing you for Josh Whitener college. Colleges claim they prepare you for the “real world.�

A position in one career field is supposed to prepare you for the next, then the next, and so forth.

But the truth is, you can never be 100 percent prepared for anything. You can – and should – take steps to ready yourself for anything important. But whether it’s a marriage, a baby, changing your college major, advancing in your career field or changing careers entirely (which is what I’m doing – taking my journalism knowledge into the education field), there’s a learning curve.

I’ve learned a lot during my five-and-a-half years writing for these newspapers. Some lessons have been easy, some have been hard, and others have been frustrating, embarrassing and funny – all at the same time.

I could write a book on the things firstyear journalists should and shouldn’t do, based on personal experience and what I’ve witnessed colleagues do. But, because I don’t want my “last hurrah� to put any of

you faithful readers to sleep, I’ll narrow my thoughts down to a list of four things I’ve learned as a community journalist.

You can never plan for anything.

I’m a die-hard planner, so this is probably the toughest lesson I’ve had to learn. You can have an entire paper mapped out when the main source for your cover story cancels an interview. Police bulletins are sent out hours before deadline. Important event announcements come in at the last minute. A freelancer bails on a story, leaving you with mere hours to figure out what to do. A deer crashes into the office next door and wreaks havoc (yes, that actually happened).

The key is to seek structure without overorganization, flexibility without flippancy.

That’s a good philosophy for many areas of life.

Journalists aren’t scary.

If I had a dime for every time someone told me, “Don’t quote me on that� or “Don’t print that part� or “I better be careful what I say,� I could give Donald Trump a run for his money – and hopefully pay him enough to stop his presidential campaign. While I understand peoples’ hesitancy, the great thing about community journalism is we’re not sensationalists. We have a pretty good sense of determining when something you say is going to make you sound smart and classy or stupid and a jerk. I think I speak for all of my colleagues when I say, “You can trust us.� (see Farewell Column on page 7)

Union County League of Women Voters to host Civics class MONROE – The Union County League of Women Voters will host a Civics 101 class, where residents can learn the responsibilities and function of local government. Monroe native receives Navy and Marine Corps medal MONROE – Master-at-Arms 1st Class Nicholas Webster, a Monroe native and 1997 Forest Hills High School graduate, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for meritorious service during an awards ceremony at the headquarters of Commander, Navy Region, MidAtlantic (CNRMA) in Norfolk, Virginia.

The award is presented to service members who represent heroism, outstanding achievement or meritorious service.

Webster is currently serving as the region military working dog trainer.

“It’s really great to be recognized for hard work,” he said in a news release. “As with most awards, however, the many others who you work with day in and day out really contribute to that recognition.”

Nonprofit Common Heart unveils partnership program INDIAN TRAIL – Common Heart will host a meeting for pastors and church leaders on Thursday, Feb. 18, to learn about the nonprofits new “Charitas Network.”

The program is a part of Common Heart’s “Kindness Connects” initiative and will join faith communities in western Union and southeast Mecklenburg counties to more effectively serve their neighbors living in poverty or going through a crisis.

Letter to the Editor Dear Editor, As stated during a recent Council meeting, the town of Indian Trail has not focused on improving the business class tax base in

over 5 years. The Economic Department was directed by the previous administration to focus on the parks and the town hall, which has resulted in the town seeing a decrease of 2 percent in the amount of Business Tax revenue in a 5-year period. During the same period, the residential tax revenue did increase by 2 percent, leaving the town in a net negative of 4 percent in growth from a business perspective.

Adding fast food establishments and other related businesses that only pay part-time wages and only at the minimum wage level will not help the town grow toward a tax base that is not as heavily weighed on the residents. In addition, between 80 to 85 percent of the residents of Indian Trail are traveling to the Charlotte area because Indian Trail does not offer wages that can support a family.

While having businesses that can employ and teach valuable working ethics to high school students, Indian Trail is a family community that requires wages to support the needs of a family. This is the basis for the statement of Indian Trail not focusing on economic development. It is time to return focus to economic development that will bring sustainable jobs, growth and a tax base that is not heavily burdened upon the residents.

This, in turn, will bring more revenue into Indian Trail, which will allow us to focus on the other areas that have been ignored for far too long – roads and infrastructure. Indian Trail has some great assets that will be attractive to businesses and bring high paying jobs. Indian Trail also has a great asset that can be leveraged from a regional perspective with the Monroe Aiport and the aerospace and healthcare industries as those companies look to expand and businesses that provide support to those industries are looking for locations to establish a business.

It is time we renew the focus, make up for lost time, and market, promote, and bring businesses in Indian Trail that will not require residents to drive hours each day to make a living.

Myrtle grew up with five sisters and five brothers. When the older siblings left and went to college, Myrtle’s father decided to move the family closer to Charlotte, so they could live at home and help around the house.

Meanwhile, Charles’s brother was raising a family in Union County. His 18-month-old suffered a severe asthma attack and was taken to the hospital in Charlotte, just down the street from Myrtle and her family. Because they had an extra bedroom, the Biggers offered up the room to Charles’s brother and his wife so they could stay close to their daughter in the hospital.

“One Saturday night, Charles came by my house with his girlfriend to see his brother,” Myrtle recalls. “That’s the first time we met.

That night, they started to leave. He walked his girlfriend out and shut the door. But I remember – he opened that door back up about a foot wide, looked me straight in the eye, then shut it again. The next day, he came back, but his girlfriend didn't.”

After a few short weeks, Charles and Myrtle went on their first official date to the Dilworth Theater. Eleven months later, Charles brought the love of his life under a persimmon tree near his childhood home to ask for her hand in marriage.

“He asked me if my hand was cold,” Myrtle said. “They were, so he told me to put my hand in his pocket. When I did, there was a ring box in it and that’s when he proposed. I was so surprised but he had the whole thing planned out.”

Union County Weekly | February 12, 2016 | Page 7 The couple married on Feb. 8, 1941, just before Myrtle’s 21st birthday. This year marks their 75th anniversary, and they’ve been inseparable year after year.

“We didn't have any money, but we didn't know that,” Myrtle said. “We just wanted to be married to each other.”

The celebrations this month don't stop with their anniversary, though. Charles will turn 97 years old on Feb. 23 and Myrtle will turn 96 on Feb. 29. Next weekend, they’ll have their entire family over to their home in Matthews to celebrate the milestones.

And it’ll be quite the celebration; the Winchesters raised four children of their own and have seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, not to mention several cousins, nieces and nephews. The walls of their Courtney Lane home, where they’ve resided since 1971, are full of old black-and-white photos, memorabilia and treasures of a life well lived, a testament to the two things the Winchesters value most – love and family.

But as with any marriage, their 75-year journey hasn't always been smooth sailing.

The couple had only been married two years when Charles received his draft letter to serve his country in April 1943. He trained in Maryland for 30 days and then found out he would be stationed in Boston to wait for a ship to be commissioned. After going on a shakedown cruise, Charles and his unit left for Normandy.

Back home, Myrtle started a job in a factory to help make tents for the servicemen. She worked second shift, since that’s when she missed her husband the most.

“We went over for D-Day,” Charles recalls.

“After D-Day, we came back to take the Presi-

dent to the Yalta Conference aboard our ship.

But each time we came back, I would try to see Myrtle.”

Charles was in Tokyo Bay when Japan surrendered.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to him, Myrtle was back home, pregnant with their first child.

“There was a time when Charles was at port in Norfolk, Virginia,” Myrtle said. “I got aboard a train and went to see him. Well, nine months after that…”

After the Japanese surrendered and Charles was discharged, he came home to their fiveweek-old daughter, Cheryl.

This past October, the Winchesters also endured the heartache that comes with losing a child. Their daughter, Karen Simms, died Oct. 10 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 66 years old. Her smile and beauty still lives on in the Winchester home.

What makes their marriage so full of joy, even during the hard times?

“I don't think there’s a secret,” Myrtle said.

“It’s about loving one another, respecting one another and raising a family together.”

“We try not to go to bed with bad feelings with each other,” Charles added. “We solve that before we go to bed.”

The couple added their Christian faith has helped them get through the good and the bad.

Through all the ups and downs, Charles and Myrtle have been by each other’s side every step of the way, weaving together a simple love story for the ages. It’s clear to see they’re ready for another 75 years.

Mistakes aren’t the end of the world.

We’ve all done it – made a misprint. I don’t know a single journalist who hasn’t misspelled someone’s name, printed a wrong address by accident or made a startling realization that instead of typing “farther,” you typed “fart her,” and that pesky, unreliable spell check completely missed it.

I’ve learned to swallow my pride, admit my screw-ups and, in most instances, have a good laugh about it.

Community matters.

True, there’s a lot of bad in the world, but I’ve seen so much goodness among the communities I’ve covered. I’ve seen students give up their own time to organize drives for people in need, with no credit or payment involved. I’ve seen entire towns rally behind children diagnosed with devastating illnesses. I’ve seen political boards go from being split down the middle on an issue, to talking it out and coming up with a solution that’s best for all of their constituents.

I’ve seen individuals come together over things that, by all logic, should rip communities apart.

It never fails to inspire me.

I’ve met so many wonderful people and have worked with some of the best professionals in the journalism industry. I will always be grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to tell the stories of the great communities of Matthews and Mint Hill.

WEDDINGTON – Weddington Middle School students won big last month.

Seventh-grader Royce Joseph won the Union County 2016 Spelling Bee on Jan. 28 and will represent UCPS at the 62nd annual Charlotte Observer Regional Spelling Bee on Feb. 29 at ImaginOn in Charlotte.

Royce credited days off from school over winter break, snow days and Martin Luther King Jr. Day with helping him prepare for the competition. ”We are very proud of him, for what he has done,” his father and spelling bee coach, Paul Joseph, said in a news release. “Long term, that will be his success that will lead him to different things in life. Whereas just learning the spelling of words and not know the meaning behind them, then he’s not able to use them, and that’s really not good. I want him to be able to use the words in writing, in reading, in talking to people, and be a better person in the future."

Union County Board of Ed approves legislative activities The Union County Board of Education approved two legislative activities at its Feb. 2 meeting that encourages current or future legislators to become involved with UCPS. UCPS will host a “Teacher for A Day” event that invites returning and new candidates for the North Carolina General Assembly to act as a teacher or teacher assistant for a day, so that they can better understand the day in the life of a teacher, according to BOE Vice Chairperson Leslie Boyd.

Boyd said although the board does not endorse any candidates, individuals who do participate will receive “positive press.”

Candidates can serve in the classroom between Feb. 15 and 18 or Feb. 22 and 26.

BOE members also approved board members would establish a “legislative agenda” that lists topics the board wishes to support or bring forward to state legislators.

Last year, the board invited state legislators to a breakfast in which BOE members discussed the legislative agenda.

Boyd and at-large BOE member Michael Guzman hope to present a legislative agenda at the BOE’s March 1 meeting.

Sun Valley Middle School student honored with donation INDIAN TRAIL – Sun Valley Middle School lost one of their own last month and used the tragedy as motivation to give back.

Thirteen-year-old Julia Nesbit lost her battle to pediatric cancer and the school decided to take a collect for pediatric cancer research in her honor.

The school collected approximately $4,000 for pediatric cancer research and encouraged the community to contribute to the collection.

The Nesbit family also has two students in UCPS at Cuthbertson and Sun Valley high schools.

Monroe, Marvin Ridge high participate in study abroad Monroe and Marvin Ridge high schools participated in the first year of the Council on International Educational Exchange’s Global Navigator Scholarship program.

Students from both schools traveled abroad last summer on scholarship.

CIEE is doubling the total number of high schools and students participating in the program. More than 80 schools across the United States have been identified to receive grants of $20,000 each to help their students participate in CIEE Global Navigator summer study abroad programs. This is an increase from 43 schools selected during the 2014-15 school year.

Weddington High School student earns scholarship WEDDINGTON – Phillip David Hetzler, a Weddington High School graduate, received the Rush Rhees Scholarship at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. The scholarship is given to students for “academic excellence,” according to a news release.

Hetzler is a freshman and the son of Candy and David Hetzler.

School board sets pace for upcoming bond referendum

Another trip the Union County Board of Commissioners (BOC) will be in order for the UCPS Board of Education (BOE) to inform the commissioners about an upcoming bond referendum and to request transfers for a roofing project.

For the past two months, the BOE has attended BOC meetings to request budget transfers for roofing projects that have gone over budget due to increasing construction costs, as well as request greater leniency of the budget for the BOE to address “emerging needs.”

BOE members, including Melissa Merrell, Leslie Boyd and Gary Sides, have attended meetings within the past two months with Merrell and Boyd serving as speakers for the board.

The BOC requires the BOE to physically attend a BOC meeting before commissioners will approve a money transfer of any dollar amount to open communication between the two boards about where money is going.

The BOE has confirmed five roofing bids through the BOC’s process and approval of transfers.

Merrell, who typically represents the BOE’s Facilities Committee at BOC meetings, commented at the Feb. 2 BOE meeting she felt the boards engaged in open discussions through these meetings.

BOE Facilities Chair Kevin Stewart said after discussions with the county commissioners and in working groups, the Facilities Committee agreed to telegraph a bond Kevin Stewart referendum. The committee wanted to serve notice to the BOC that they still plan to draft a referendum, but the committee has not yet decided on specific projects or costs assigned to the bond.

The Class of 2029 will strap on their backpacks this fall and starting a lifelong journey of learning. This week, Union County Public Schools will host the first step in that adventure: kindergarten registration.

“Entering kindergarten is an exciting time for children and families because it marks the beginning of a new and exciting phase of a child's life,” Cindy Croffut, director of elementary education, said in a news release. “In preparation for kindergarten, parents can be a great support as they work with their child at home to establish routines, create independence, and build excitement about school.”

UCPS has prepared the “need-toknow” information for parents registering their kindergartener.

North Carolina law requires eligible children must have reached their fifth birthday on or before Aug. 31 of the year of entrance.

Parents must also register their child at the elementary school located in their attendance area. Find the current school year’s attendance

Parents should bring copies of the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, two proofs of residence and the Kindergarten Health Assessment Form before the first day of school.

Items that qualify for proof of residence are: a notarized rental agreement or purchase agreement on a residence; a utility bill such as telephone, gas or electricity, that list the correct name and address; a driver’s license and automobile registration; an automobile insurance policy; a property insurance policy; an income tax W-2 form; or a property tax bill.

North Carolina state law demands all children entering kindergarten must present documented evidence of having received immunizations and physical examinations before attending school.

Required immunizations include: five doses of DTaP/DT vaccine; four doses of Polio IPV vaccine; two doses

MMR; three doses Hepatitis B vaccine; HIB shot and two doses of Varicella (Chicken Pox).

Parents also must have their doctor or the health department complete the Kindergarten Health Assessment (KHA) Report, which can be picked up from any elementary school. An up-to-date certificate of immunizations must also be submitted to the school.

Staff will report their findings to the Facilities Committee at the meeting on Feb. 23. Facilities will present those findings to the full board at its March 1 meeting, and the board will Gary Sides adjust the referendum to follow the district’s prioritized projects and emergency needs.

The BOE approved a resolution to inform the BOC the school board still plans to manufacture a bond referendum and plans to send it to them in April or May. The final bond will present a list of projects, as well as the proposed dollar amount of each project and the total bond.

The Facilities Committee will meet on Feb. 23, a Tuesday, at 7:30 a.m. in the Central Services Board Room, located at 400 N. Church St. in Monroe. The BOC will be on Monday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in the first floor boardroom of the Union County Government Center, located at 500 N. Main St. in Monroe.

Community math program will help students

Union County public school students will receive extra math help over the summer in a county-to-county partnership.

Board of Education Vice Chair Leslie Boyd has discussed since last spring bringing a community initiative in Cleveland County to Union County that helps students struggling with math over the summer.

Cleveland County’s community created a 501c3 in which they provide a three-week math camp in July to students who don’t pass standardized math tests. The nonprofit hires the county’s teachers to teach the students and community organizations and provide resources, including funding, facilities and transportation.

Boyd hoped to serve on a Union County version of the nonprofit as a community member and liaison to the BOE. She had worked with Cleveland County’s nonprofit to learn how to mimic the plan and follow their model, which started with one site and has grown to four.

Boyd reported at the Feb. 2 BOE meeting Cleveland County will make Union County an additional site under its nonprofit in 2017.

Union County community members will shadow Cleveland County throughout the program this summer and then use the knowledge to initiate the program in Union County in 2017.

“It’s a great collaboration between the two school systems,” Boyd said.

Boyd said many of the children who participate in Cleveland don’t repeat the data-driven program because they return to school and pass their tests the next year.

The vice chair clarified the program would not be a UCPS-sponsored program, but a community initiative, so all funding would have to come from the public. UCPS would provide the grades of students who need help and select candidate students who would benefit from the program.

Boyd said Cleveland’s nonprofit will raise the funds for the program and then ask the district for the students based on the number of students the funding accommodates.

The vice chair plans to continue “fact finding” for the district and will host community planning meets to determine what the initiative involved and what’s needed.

If only the Patriots had won the AFC playoffs

You remember the blizzard of 2016 – 1 ¼ inches of snow.

Schools were shut down. We all stayed home (we’ll find any snow excuse to stay home).

Sunday we had Rev. Tony Marciano to stay home.

The AFC playoffs with Denver vs. New England determined who we played in the Super Bowl.

We had out-of-town guests from Maine visiting us during the games. We both wanted the Patriots to win. He wanted his “home” team to win the AFC playoff.

I wanted them to play the Panthers in the Super Bowl where we would beat them. You know the score. They lost. Denver went to the Super Bowl.

My guests had no interest whether my home team won or lost. Their beloved Patriots had lost. While watching the Panthers vs. Cardinal game, they announced they wanted to watch “Downton Abbey.”

We would flip back and forth between commercials to see how the plot was doing.

I suggested they go to my mother’s side of the house and watch their show so I could watch the Panthers beat the Cardinals. This was a “win-win” situation until my wife called us for dinner. My wife made homemade manicotti. Since there were so many of us, we decided to eat on my mother’s side.

There we were at her dining room table. Behind my mother was the TV. On her set was “Downton Abbey.” I couldn’t win.

I hurriedly ate and said I had to go back on my side of the house to watch the Panthers game. When half time was over, the sports announcer made some crude comment how the Panthers don’t do well in the second half of a game. He kept talking about how wonderful the Cardinals quarterback was and this was going to be his chance to shine. I didn’t hear that much about Cam. While they watched “Downton Abbey,” I had the pleasure of watching the Panthers disprove that announcer. In fact, we went so far as to put our backup quarterback into the game for the last few moments of play.

All season long, I sensed that the announcers had a hard time saying something positive about the Panthers. When we were 4-0, they said if we lost that game, then all the other games were just “dumb” luck. If we had Aaron Rodgers or Peyton Manning, they would have talked about us. But, we were the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte. Is that near Charleston, South Carolina or was

Every day, I live with the same dilemma of being misunderstood. I work with drug addicts and alcoholics – men and women who society sees as outcast. Some might say they are “drunks.” They’ve never held down a steady job, always caused family problems and cost all of us too much financially as a society.

Just like the Panthers, no one really talks about the residents of the Rescue Mission in a positive way. In reality, they are very bright, intelligent and funny. Prior to the Mission, they are misunderstood. They complete our recovery programs and become fathers and mothers to their children. They are the sons and daughters parents are proud to show off.

They learn they are loved. God deeply loves them and wants the very best for them.

I felt the Panthers were misunderstood all season long. I witnessed the sports announcers not giving them credit for being a really good team. It bothered me but I understood. The men and women I serve every day are also misunderstood, except by God. I’ll be back in two weeks. Until then, live well my friend.

National Signing Day is always a special day for student athletes, their families, coaches and schools all over the country, because it puts them one step closer to making their dreams come true.

Student athletes from Union County were fortunate to join a pantheon of several local talents from past years when they put their names down on the dotted line of a national letter of intent, finalizing their commitment to further their academic and athletic careers with the respective colleges Feb. 3.

Cuthbertson’s Ashton Duty signed with UNCGreensboro’s women’s soccer program; Samantha Fink penned her pledge to Presbyterian College for soccer; Tyler Paciolla will continue her soccer career at Catawba College; Emma Sosinski will play women’s soccer at Holy Cross; Brandi Walker inked with North Florida’s women’s soccer team; Peter Aussiello signed to play football at Duquesne and Patrick Hensley will continue his football career at Johns Hopkins.
