neighborhoods discouraged District 7 representative Ed Driggs, who was in attendance, from supporting the petition. “I am opposed to the rezoning,” said Steve Brock, president of Southampton Homeowners Association. “The corner intersection where this land sits is extremely congested due to the high school and middle school that’s in between it and the neighborhoods around it. “Adding business parking to the mix, with entrances off both
One Voice, a non-profit LGBT community choral group, continues to build on its mission to bring acceptance and understanding for the LGBT community through music. “Music transcends – everybody loves music and the message in that music,” said Dan Cadle, president of One Voice. Cadle said the group, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, continues to make an impact in the greater Charlotte community – something it has aimed to do since its formation in 1990. More than 100 residents filled the room at the South Charlotte Banquet Center on June 11 to speak out regarding a rezoning petition for a parcel of land at the intersection of Ardrey Kell and North Community House roads. The land, which is currently vacant, spans 5.67 acres. David Ellison of Taylor Theus Development Holdings, based out of Columbia, filed the petition to allow development of the site with a threestory climate-controlled storage building up to 105,000 square feet and general medical or office space up to 32,000 square feet. The proposed site is located in between Ardrey Kell High and Community House Middle schools. The majority of residents at the community meeting spoke out against the rezoning, siting traffic concerns and the proximity to the schools as the biggest deterrents. Residents from nearby Southampton and High Grove
