CHARLOTTE – Efforts to convert the suburbs into more walkable urban areas aren’t exclusive to south Charlotte. A leading urban landuse strategist says it’s a trend happening nationally in cities. “If you think you’ve seen a lot of great high-density walkable urban communities over the last 10 years, you ain’t seen nothing yet,� Christopher Leinberger said. “It’s going to increase by a factor of five-fold over the next 10 years. We’re seeing a structural shift toward a walkable urban future.� (see Suburbs on page 9)
