Hives and Honey Preserve

A self sustainable bee farm eco-relevatory design

Goal: My design was created as a self sustaining honey bee farm on a 300 acre site. The program takes visitors on an interactive indoor/outdoor field trip through the farm, educating them on the importance of honey bee pollination, as well as ways to reduce the carbon footprint through sustainable eco-relevatory practices.

Planting Design

Goal: To create visual interest for a Tennessee residence using layered planting by exploration of plant forms with architecture. Design: Researched plantings for zone 6b - 7a; chose winter evergreen planting palette to allow home to have rich green color year round; Added side flagstone path and rearranged the motor court for additional sitting wall and lawn area behind the two Vernal Witch Hazels creating an open slightly shaded seating area.

Every plant chosen has something to offer during the cold winter months, from bark or leaf texture and color, to flowering shrubs blooming during January and February. Aside from the natural evergreen appearance of most of the plants on the site, the following plants have a harmonious color scheme.

Educational Re-Design

Planting Design

Goal: Include new greenspace and easier accessibility for cars and pedestrians with emphasis on the woonerf design between three colleges at the University of Georgia. Design: I chose a curvilinear design with a circular woonerf, to slow traffic and increase pedestrian movement through a serene, buffered environment

Syncing The Green Spine

Competition Goal: To create a conceptual design that revitalizes a downtown neighborhood in St. Louis

Greenspace moves through the center of the site, syncing networks of pedestrian pathways, roadways, and vegetation; giving the surrounding area a sense of community, while engaging the visitor in nature. From the raised earth mound, you see the bones of the Spine. A Civic Space. Farmer’s Market. Concert Venue. Community Gardens. Preserved Urban Forest. Recreation Center.

Broad Street Pocket Park

Urban Planting Design

Goal: Photoshop and Sketch Up exploration used to create an inviting pocket park in downtown Athens. Design: The pocket park is located on Broad Street in Downtown Athens, GA. The site sits between retail shops and cafes. The idea behind the design was to create a relaxed environment, buffering out the downtown noise. The design for the site included adding multiple water features, sitting walls around the site, and mass plantings to create a green setting.

The Lyndon House

Engineering Stormwater and Artistic Design

Goal: Re-design the site around the Historic Lyndon House and Arts Center in downtown Athens, GA. Design focus was based off the Piedmont Region and stormwater mitigation, while keeping in mind the borrowed views of the foothills. Design: In keeping with the formality of the Greek Revival Style of the Lyndon House, I chose a formal radial design with the center point of the lawn radiating out into terraced steps formed by granite rocks. The focus of my design came from the regional patterns of the Piedmont. The radial shape and openness of the formal lawn allow for large events such as weddings and festivals. The original site lacked shaded areas and was heavily eroded. The new design included a sustainable stormwater management grading system as well as rain barrels, rain gardens, and an interactive walking tour for children educating them on the importance of nature’s resources.

The Groves Clubhouse

Engineering Stormwater Design

Goal: Design a building for a 14 acre site focusing on the engineering of the road with appropriate grading and managed stormwater runoff. Design: A large clubhouse with amenities including a pool, spa, fire pit, tennis court, and sustainable residential community garden. The grading behind the pool slopes considerably in order to provide a view of the natural landscape setting behind the clubhouse.

Goal: Find an unkept site in Athens, GA and turn it into a lively open public space to enjoy through photo imagery

Design: To take the run down building on the left and transform it into a trendy retail spot similar to downtown, with larger capacity stores. The idea I had for this site was Anthropologie or Urban Outfitters, two retail stores found in most college cities that renovate old buildings, giving their stores a rustic feel. The site would be perfect, because it is close to downtown and has a larger parking lot area for customers.
