Wedding Trends

A

s a celebrity stylist in Los Angeles, I see what’s on trend before it hits the shelves. I shop for celebrities every day, and see what they are giving and getting. Since my job is to shop, I see a lot of stuff, but I have picked my absolute favorite weddingrelated gifts to share with you. Even in Hollywood, people are careful with their money and want the wedding gifts they give to be useful. The worst thing is to give a gift and have someone not use it. There are so many choices when shopping for a wedding gift, so you want to be confident that yours will be a gift that the couple will have and use for a long time. For the Bride

What people especially want now for weddings are multipurpose gifts that serve two or more purposes and offer more for their buck. They want things that have longevity and an afterlife long beyond the wedding day. One of my favorite gifts for the bride and her bridesmaids is The Cat’s Pajamas’ “Lovebirds” poplin kimono robe. This is such a perfect robe to get ready in on your wedding day, and it makes for great photos – especially if the whole wedding party is wearing them. The fabric is lightweight enough that it is a great year-round, go-to robe the bride can wear on her wedding day, take on her honeymoon, and use everyday in her new married life. Another great multipurpose item for the bride and/or bridesmaids is Hipknoties. It’s one piece of fabric that can be worn in at least 30 different ways – as a scarf, shirt, poncho, coverup, etc. The best thing is that it’s one size fits all. It also makes a great gift for the mother of the bride, who can use it as a scarf or shrug. The bride can get 30 outfits out of it on her honeymoon; and it can even be used as bridesmaids dresses for all of the girls.

For Bridesmaids Brides are always looking for gifts for their bridesmaids. The Coobie Bra is a cute bridesmaid gift that you can get in the color of the wedding, such as purple, pink, teal and aqua. The bride can also wear one under a dress at her bridal shower and have the lace peek through. Plus, these really are one size fits all and affordably priced, so they’re good for someone who has many bridesmaids. Another good bridesmaids gift is the Haute Brush: it’s a brush that instantly straightens hair and is plugged in or portable. These can be given to the bridesmaids to keep and use on the big day, cutting down on hair and makeup costs. They’re especially great for tropical destination weddings, where people’s hair gets frizzy. You might be stuck on an island, but you can still look great! Continued on page 8

For the Groom Grooms are hard to get gifts for. Brides don’t often think about the groom gift until the last minute. You can have fun with cufflinks, and every guy should have one nice pair! I’m a big fan of the “Buddha” sapphire-and-silver cufflinks from the celebrity jeweler Borgionis; I’ve put them on celebs on the red carpet. If these are a bit steep price-wise, there are many other alternatives out there to fit any groom’s taste.

For the Couple Personalization is a big, big trend we’re seeing in weddings and gifts. In the narcissistic society we 8 • PRESENT presentmag.com

live in, everyone wants everything personalized – not just with their names, but with their faces. It’s more than the monogram, it’s ultra-personalization. Drink In 3D creates custom, hand-painted wedding flutes and other drinkware from a photo of the bride or couple. It’s a cute idea that wouldn’t be on their registry but that they can have forever. It will help the couple to remember how they looked on that day 20 years from now. A cute gift idea for couples who enjoy outdoor entertaining is Sunnylife’s portable barbecue with a matching apron and glove. Also consider fun placesettings for outdoor use or a basket with wine bottle holders – which are great for the couple buy-

ing a house. It’s a nice alternative to china and high-end tableware.

For the Honeymoon For the honeymoon, the bride only needs one hat from Fancy Fedora, which sells designer hats and interchangeable hat bands that can change the hat’s look based on her mood or where she’s going. This is a great multipurpose gift – it’s like 10 hats in one. It’s a cool concept for the honeymoon, and she can wear it when she gets back. When traveling, everyone’s biggest fear is having their phone die. Hook Me Ups has very

fashionable portable phone chargers, including some that are scented. Some are blinged out in jewels and glitter for brides; others have white and pink rosettes all over. There are also leather-embossed ones for the groom. Everything has to be a two-for-one item; this charges your phone and makes things around them smell better! Beyond the honeymoon, the couple will have their whole life ahead to travel together. I love Chariot Travelware because the pieces are not that expensive, are good quality and come in lots of designs. His and her carry-ons are a great wedding gift that will last them a long time! n

A Perfect Match The style of a wedding invitation helps to set the tone of the ceremony and reception to come. From the most formal of engraved versions for a traditional affair, to a personalized beach scene for a tropical destination, there’s an invitation design to match every type of wedding and to complement every type of couple. For a Formal Wedding:

monogram. Elegant script. Black ink engraved on ivory paper. These traditional elements inform guests to expect a formal wedding. The correct wording for a wedding held in any house of worship is “request the honour of your presence.” For weddings held in other types of locations, “request the pleasure of your company” should be used. 10 • PRESENT presentmag.com

For Something Less Traditional:

A

n invitation with a modern graphic design and fun font evokes the feeling that this wedding will be a bit more offbeat. Letterpress printing, done on antique printing presses, has become a popular option on more-contemporary invitations. So have type fonts that appear as if they’ve been handwritten but are printed.

For a Destination Wedding:

For a Rustic Wedding:

hen you see palm trees and/or sandy beaches on a wedding invitation, it’s time to pack your bags! Nearly a quarter of all weddings are considered destination weddings; most popular places include Mexico, Hawaii, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, with Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia and Grenada emerging as new favorites.

For Renewing Your Vows:

A

colorful, casual invitation design can work well for a less-formal second marriage or the renewal of wedding vows. Couples often opt to renew their vows on a milestone anniversary or after they’ve gone through a challenging time in their relationship. Such renewal ceremonies are often a big family affair.

O

utdoor weddings are on the rise! It’s estimated that 35 percent of weddings now take place outside, with gardens and parks topping the list of outdoor locations, followed by beaches. Another popular “rustic” wedding locale is on a farm, with a decorated barn serving as the perfect spot for the reception.

edding ahoy! Whether the nuptials are seaside, lakeside, riverside or on a boat, a nautical-themed invitation is an ideal way to convey the message that this is a maritime occasion. The anchor – a common symbol on nautical invitations – represents safety and stability, two things that marriage also represents for the new couple.

et me to the church on time! While the actual number of wedding ceremonies taking place within churches is on the decline, many couples still opt to marry in the place of worship of their religion – whether a church, temple, synagogue or mosque. Five Wedding Invitation Mistakes to Avoid

1

Choosing a design that doesn’t match your theme. If you’re having a rustic barn wedding and send a wedding invitation with pearl-embossed roses and candles as the design, guests will be confused about what to expect on your big day. Make sure your invite sets the tone for your celebration.

3

2

Typos! It’s all happened: The groom’s name spelled wrong. The right month, but the wrong day. The location missing from the wording. Letters in simple words like “the” transposed to “teh.” Spell check. Proofread. Ask your writer friend to proofread. Check again. Check one more time. Make sure it’s right before you send to print.

Cramming too much copy on the invitation. You don’t have to say it all on the invitation. Your names, the hosts’ names, the date, time and location are what should be printed on the invitation. Reception cards, response cards and accommodation cards are for getting that specific info to your guests.

4

Forgetting stamps on response envelopes. You’re asking guests to reply to your invitations. When you put stamps on the response envelopes, it’ll make it super-easy for them to pop their replies in the mail.

5

Not putting enough postage on the invitations. …and having all of your invitations returned to you. Nightmare. Before you drop your invites in the mail, take one to the post office, fully assembled, with all the enclosure cards and envelopes and seals attached, to find out exactly how much postage you’ll need. n (Courtesy of Carlson Craft. blog.carlsoncraft.com)

Present-Day Etiquette

Wedding Hashtags The Do’s and Do Not’s for tastefully using wedding hashtags.

By Heather Wiese Alexander

H

ashtags are a great way to share photos on social media after the fact, but all the sharing, snapping and fingerpecking into phones at a wedding is distasteful to some, especially during the ceremony itself. The etiquette comes into play as to how guests are informed about hashtags. Do: • Keep it brief. Make hashtags as short and readable as possible. • Realize that if your hashtag is not unique, you and your guests may get a barrage of unwanted photos into your feed. Think before you go public with your hashtag and consider using an online hashtag generator to create a unique hashtag. • Place your hashtag discreetly if you plan to print it on any wedding materials. Pushing guests to use social media and fill their feeds with your agenda is, frankly, not good behavior; however, for people who want to join in the fun, you want the inclusion to feel effortless. Wedding hashtags should be available but never perceived as a mandate. • Be the first to use your wedding hashtag. This gives guests the go-ahead to tag photos of you and your partner all the way through the process and after the big day. If you would like wedding guests to post pictures with your hashtag at events before the wedding, you can place the hashtag reference on a card in your wedding invitation suite that is neither the ceremony (main invitation) card nor the reply card, again discreetly. It should be the least emphasized information in the suite. Do Not: • Include a hashtag on your ceremony card. Many see this as disrespectful and even crass. You can be both modern and formal if you

#

wish, but if your desire is to appear “formal,” be careful not to cross the line from formal to fancy. Formal weddings are defined by a certain decorum – a respectful nod to the traditions of a marriage ceremony. This doesn’t mean it can’t apply to non-sanctuary weddings or to gay marriages, it simply means that pertaining to etiquette, there is a proper place for everything. Phone numbers, email addresses and hashtags should never be on a formal wedding ceremony invitation. • Include a hashtag on your reply card. To state the obvious, if guests are sending the card back to you, don’t include information they might need to keep! n

Be the first to use your wedding hashtag. This gives guests the go-ahead to tag photos of you and your partner all the way through the process and after the big day.

Summer Fun

Swing Into Summer!

It’s time to swing into summer! Flowers are in full bloom and the great outdoors is calling. Time for backyard barbecues, sunny days tending the garden or reading at the beach, and lazy evenings just chillin’ outside. Yes, it’s that time of year when we move our lives out of doors to relax, exercise, play and entertain.

Summer Fun

In The Garden

It’s summer and the livin’ is … outdoors! Make your garden space your outdoor sanctuary with great accessories to enhance your summer living style.

Y

our outdoor spaces should be an extension of your home and reflect your design sensibilities and lifestyle. It doesn’t matter whether you have a full yard with blooming gardens and a patio or deck, or simply a terrace or balcony. Whatever space you have should be viewed as another part of your living area. And, since these spaces are an extension of your home, shouldn’t they be furnished and decorated like any other “room”? Here’s Where the Fun Begins Just as with any room – or your wardrobe for that matter – it’s all about accessorizing. In the garden, accents are like surprise jewels that fill in empty spaces between plants, add color where there is none, and attract wildlife – especially birds. Some accents, like garden stakes, can even serve a dual purpose; they can be decorative as well as help to support taller growing plants. Other décor pieces add to the ambience, whether through sight, sound or light. Consider your vertical spaces as a part of your décor scheme. Utilize fencing and wall space that might otherwise go unnoticed; they are perfect places for creating a vertical gardening element or adding decorative accents to give these otherwise unused blank areas more purpose and visual interest.

A Season for the Senses Think that the flowers and plants are colorful enough? Not so, according to a Zillow Digs Home Trends Forecast. These days, adding bright pops of additional color is on trend. This can be easily done with decorative pots and planters, outdoor pillows and whimsical accessories such as kinetic art pieces and flags placed around outdoor living spaces. When choosing decorative planters and smaller pots, take into consideration whether you may be bringing them indoors once the weather becomes too cold, since you’ll want them to fit in with your interior décor as well. Don’t forget about sound! To create the right atmosphere outdoors, enhance natural everyday background sounds by adding the soothing melodic tinkling of windchimes or the white noise Continued on page 22

Garden Ornament Tips

• Use ornamental garden stakes to support taller flowering plants and to add extra visual interest at a higher level over lower growing plants. • Use decorative solar-powered lights to light up garden beds, garden paths and patio perimeters for ambience and safety. • Bird feeders and baths add fun to the garden by attracting birds and other wildlife. • Use figurines and garden stones to fill in empty spaces between plants. • Move figurines and garden stones around periodically to freshen things up. • Larger planters can double as beverage coolers for summer entertaining. of a water feature. You can also pipe your favorite playlists outside via Bluetooth-enabled faux rocks or sculptures. Once the sun goes down, you can still enjoy your outdoor space. There are lots of great lighting options ranging from solar-powered lights that will illuminate garden beds, walkways and other outdoor areas, to decorative tealight holders and candle lanterns for placing around on outdoor tables or to hang up and provide the soft illumination for enjoying a warm summer evening. So, get out and enjoy your garden!

t’s not too late. Although summer may be in full swing, you can still plant and reap the benefits of live blooms, fragrant herbs, and/or fresh veggies.

Vegetables When it comes to veggies, you will need to plan a little more carefully this late in the season, depending on what area of the country you live in. According to a New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station and Rutgers University Cooperative Extension fact sheet, “Fruiting vegetables, such as tomatoes and peppers, require 8 hours of sunlight each day; root vegetables will need 6 hours of sun; and leafy vegetables will usually produce satisfactorily with only 4 hours of sunlight.” So keep this in mind, whether you are starting from seed or buying plants. 22 • PRESENT presentmag.com

Herbs Herbs are an easy way to go and can be started from seed at any time. And, what a great way to add fresh flavor to your cooking! If you grow herbs in pots, they can be brought indoors when the weather starts to get too cool, so that you can snip away all winter long. Flowers To be able to enjoy the colorful display of flowering plants right away, consider purchasing more mature plants to place in containers around your outdoor living area and to fill in areas of the garden that are spent.

The Garden Contained f you don’t have yard space for a garden plot, you can still plant a garden! No matter what size or type of space you have – whether it’s a deck, patio, terrace or balcony, you can add color and flavor by growing plants in containers. There are lots of different, decorative and colorful styles to suit your personal taste. When it comes to those plants that you may want to bring indoors once the weather becomes less hospitable to them, consider smaller pots that are easier to fit in with your interior spaces and on your windowsills. While still outdoors, smaller pots can be grouped together in long, rectangular box planters or on metal plant stands and planters than can come inside intact. n

Summer Fun

Outside! Summertime means moving parties and casual get-togethers outside for fun and food.

C

asual entertaining moves outside during the warm summer weather, but that doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice style. Although there’s no reason why you can’t use your regular dinnerware and accessories, why not change things up? Whether you set up a buffet or an informal table, you don’t need to sacrifice style for convenience. Take the worry out of breakage, as well as make clean-up easier, with elegant and colorful paper tableware and napkins, great plastic drinkware and fun cutlery. Truth Be Told

E

mily McDowell is the founder and creative mind behind Emily McDowell Studio in Los Angeles, whose greeting cards and gift products – including mugs, totes, magnets, art prints and more – are splashed with truthful, humorous sayings that really resonate and often motivate, like “I Will Not Compare Myself to Strangers on the Internet.” Emily left a career in advertising three years ago to start her eponymous company, and became a media sensation last year when she introduced Empathy Cards™ that provide honest support for those with a serious illness or who’ve experienced a loss (e.g., “One More Chemo Down! Let’s Celebrate with Whatever Doesn’t Taste Disgusting”). The cards struck a nerve globally and have been featured by hundreds of news outlets worldwide, as well as shared more than 10 million times on social media. < Emily McDowell, CEO & Creative Director, Emily McDowell Studio.

Meet Emily McDowell, creator of cards and goods that tell it like it is.

Q: What the heck possessed you to start writing greeting cards? When I started writing cards, it was because I had trouble finding the kinds of cards I wanted to send. At the time, I felt like most cards celebrated an idealized version of relationships, and I saw an opportunity to create cards that were more true to the relationships we really have. Q: How do you come up with what to say on your products – especially your Empathy Cards™? I write a LOT, and 95% of it is horrible. I start by identifying a truth, feeling, or event that feels relatable to a lot of people, and then I try to write about it in a new way that hasn’t been done before. The Empathy Cards™ were inspired by my own experience with cancer 15 years ago, and observations and experiences with illness and grief that I’ve had since then with friends. In some ways, Empathy Cards™ are the hardest cards to write, because I’m walking a really fine line on some sensitive topics. At the same time, there are a lot of ideas there, because the cards tackle things nobody ever talks about. Q: What’s your favorite part of your job? One favorite part is Good Idea Feeling, which (as you can probably guess) is the excitement I get from having a good idea, or writing something that feels really fresh and truthful. I also love the process of figuring out why we behave the way we do. It’s a lot of fun to get to be so involved with the human experience as a job, but not have to actually be anyone’s therapist. Another favorite part is hearing the feedback we get from customers – when people love and relate to the things we make, and when I know we’re helping people figure out what to say. It’s really rewarding to know that the things I write are helping people connect with “Grocery Compromises” canvas tote. each other. Continued on page 36

Q: What makes you laugh? The truth. When something is just painfully true, like Louis C.K.’s comedy. Broad City. Amy Schumer. My boyfriend. All those YouTube videos of goats yelling like humans. I could watch those all day. Q: What’s the best gift you’ve ever given? As a notoriously questionable giftgiver, I strongly believe that the skill of excellent gift-giving should not be taken for granted. At this point, my sister and I just exchange gift cards, which is embarrassing. I do make special one-off cards for my family and friends, which they really dig. day that you slap to turn on and off, which I know probably sounds like a terrible gift, but it was perfect for him. Q: What’s the best gift you’ve ever received? When I was 16, my mom bought me a Toyota Corolla with 200,000 miles on it for $500. My mom painted a little Hot Wheels car to look exactly like it, complete with rust spots and bumper stickers, and put that under the Christmas tree. Q: What are the top 3 things on your bucket list? Learn to scuba dive, take a threemonth trip around the world, and stay in one of those fancy hotel huts built over the ocean in Tahiti. n

10 Clever Ways To Use Giftwrap These giftwrap ideas go way beyond the box.

G

iftwrap isn’t just for wrapping a present! The next time you reach for a roll or sheet of giftwrap, consider these great ideas for using giftwrap in creative ways throughout your home.

1. Line your kitchen shelves – Liven up those boring kitchen cabinets and pantries (or closets anywhere in your home) by lining the shelves with colorful giftwrap that will make you smile every time you open the door or drawer!

By Aimee Logan

than the photo on all sides, and place the photo behind. 3. Cover school textbooks – Forget boring brown paper bags or pricey fabric book covers when you’ve got a roll of giftwrap handy! With just some scissors and tape, schoolbooks get a designer-like look that will be a hit in the classroom.

Line envelopes for colorful correspondence.

2. Create unique wall décor – Many giftwrap patterns are gorgeous enough to frame! Wrap also works nicely when used as a photo mat to bring a little pizazz to pictures. Fill the frame with giftwrap, then tape a photo on top. For a more permanent look, cut wrap leaving a window that is 1/4" smaller

4. Customize stationery envelopes – Send your correspondence with custom envelope liners that take plain white envelopes from dull to decorative. This is also a great way to use up leftover pieces from a wrapping project.

Make decorative garlands, table runners and plant holders. 42 • PRESENT presentmag.com

5. Jazz up office accessories – Everyone’s workday can benefit from an inspiring color splash! Use a favorite giftwrap print to brighten up office items such as magazine holders. Simply cut the wrap to size, adhere with spray glue, and finish with a clear coat for maximum durability.

Take office accessories to a colorful new level.

6. Hang fun party garland – Craft a festive garland using a paper punch and baker’s twine; using doublesided tape, sandwich two pieces of wrap together with twine in the middle for a fun and colorful addition to any party! 7. Craft colorful catch-alls – Corral clutter around the house by wrapping a sturdy box inside and out. Or, wrap a coffee can to contain your writing utensils, makeup brushes, or various knickknacks.

Create unique wall décor or water bottle wrappers.

8. Decorate plastic water bottles – Make memorable water bottle wraps for your guests. Use 2-inch strips of giftwrap, then cut and adhere to the water bottle with double-sided tape. It’s a great way to give a special event a custom look without a custom price tag! 9. Roll out a table runner – A roll of wrap creates a fun starting point for a cute tablescape, protects your furniture from crumbs, and makes clean up a cinch! To decorate a gift table or dessert station, simply roll out the wrap, cut to size, and secure with double-sided tape or tablecloth clips. 10. Make fashionable centerpieces – Cover a vase or flower pot with giftwrap and get a totally unique look that will turn a simple arrangement into a show-stopping centerpiece! The simplicity of this project makes it easy and afffordable to change up looks for any season or occasion. n Aimee Logan is creative coordinator for The Gift Wrap Company and a contributor to its studio blog featuring unique uses for giftwrap, “Beyond the Grommets” at beyondthegrommets.com.

Color Me Happy! Creative and meditative, coloring is no longer just for kids. Adults are finding fun and relaxation in it, making it the latest hot trend.

T

hroughout the U.S. and across the world, coloring has moved out of the children’s playroom and into the living room to become a relaxing activity for adults of all ages, as well as a grown-up social activity. “Coloring helps me pass the time between customers, and it is so relaxing,” acknowledged a woman who had a coloring book open while she was manning a restaurant coat check. Added a college student in her campus dorm: “I find coloring helps reduce my stress, especially at exam time.”

Adult coloring has been around for some time, but certainly not as the huge trend it is today. Its recent popularity can be attributed in large part to the publication in 2013 of Johanna Basford’s coloring book, “Secret Garden,” which became a best-seller and has intrigued many with its intricate patterns and hidden images. “There are a lot of different reasons why the world has gone coloring crazy,” observes Joanne Fink, an artist and coloring book designer. “For one thing, scientific study has shown it to have benefits similar to meditation. But more than that, it has become socially acceptable – almost chic – and people who have been secretly coloring for years have ‘come out of the closet.’” Coloring Has Benefits Many recent news reports have touted the benefits of coloring for adults, noting that is has been proven to help individuals unwind

from high-stress jobs and over-scheduled lifestyles. In fact, researchers at Johns Hopkins University have suggested the use of coloring as an alternative to meditation. Research also shows that coloring engages and stimulates different areas of the brain, helping us to focus and concentrate on fine motor skills. Furthermore, in this techno-centric age of electronic devices, it is getting back to the basics of putting [colored] pencil to paper. Most of all, it is just plain and simple fun that doesn’t require a lot of skill. The tools and accessories for today’s adult coloring trend go way beyond kiddie basics. Designs range from intricate mandalas to imaginative fantasy scenes to beautiful floral motifs. Coloring pages can be a “springboard for more personal creativity” according to Fink, and has opened the way to other coloring media for more self-expression. There are journals to combine your creative writing and selfexploration in words with your artistic expression in color and doodles. Larger pieces such as posters can be done as a family or group project and worked on over time. One of the inspiring things about coloring is that when the piece is finished, you can frame it and then display it in your home or office where you can enjoy

your work of art. You might even want to rotate your work to keep things looking fresh. It becomes an element of décor that personalizes your space. “People are also sharing their coloring work via social media,” states Fink. “They are getting positive feedback, and it validates them.” Color Your World As the number of adults interested in coloring has grown, so have the choices of things there are to color. There are intricate coloring cards, posters and much more out there to help you try your hand at this growing craze of selfexpression. Paper placemats that have been colored can be laminated to be used again and again. You can also set your table with a color-in cotton tablecloth and/or placemats. A color-in pillowcase can be doodled on to add color to a bedroom; or, liven up your living room or favorite reading chair with a decorative coloring pillow. When you use washable markers, these items can be colored over and over again. Otherwise, color them in with permanent fabric markers. Kathy Phillips, founder of the gift/home décor resource Primitives by Kathy, says that when it comes to the choice of coloring tools, “It’s really up to the artist! We have seen a mix of markers, colored pens and pencils used to color in our box signs. The best coloring tool depends on the intricacy and detail of the design. Layering different styles creates a really unique piece of art.” If you haven’t colored anything since you were a kid, don’t worry about staying within the lines or choosing the wrong color. There is no right or wrong ... it’s your creation. Enjoy yourself!

Organize a Coloring Meetup!

Coloring doesn’t have to be a solo activity. You can keep it small with just a few personal friends or organize a larger community group through your church, library or other organization. If you are thinking of starting a coloring club, here are a few considerations: • Choose a location with a large flat table or tables. If the group is small, a dining room or kitchen table should suffice. If the group is to be larger, look into the local library or church for space. • Schedule a regular set time and frequency so that all members can plan. • Require members to bring their own supplies. • Have extra supplies, such as markers, pencil sharpeners and erasers, on hand just in case. • Arrange for refreshments. Remember this is a social occasion.

Coloring Tips

T

here are many different coloring products now that are printed on different types and quality of papers, especially coloring books. The successful performance of any pen, marker or paint and the look of the finished product is as much dependent on the quality of the paper used as it is on the individual’s coloring ability.

Here are a few helpful tips: • For best results, pre-test each item to determine the compatibility and endresults on that specific book’s paper quality. • If the paper is a heavy weight with a smoother finish, many products perform well. • Coloring with inks or paint on thin, low-quality paper may cause the colors to bleed or cause the paper to buckle.

• Designs in coloring books can be photocopied and printed on a higher quality paper. • The “tooth” or texture of a paper is important in terms of finished effect and appropriateness of the medium used to color. Glossier finished papers may not accept inks and paints in the same way – or as successfully – as colored pencils or crayons. n (Courtesy of Sakura. sakuraofamerica.com)
