Arousal Theory Arousal is an important theory that is closely linked with the important concepts of attention, motivation, and anxiety. While a person’s individual temperament certainly has influence on these ideas, their surrounding environments can also have a profound influence. Studies have shown that both high and low levels of arousal are least effective, while moderate arousal yields maximum performance in a task and satisfaction. This theory can be integrated into interior environments using color, artwork, greenery, lighting, and other visually stimulating elements. By designing environments that stimulate arousal, designers can increase user productivity and satisfaction.
Concept When working for extended hours individuals often begin to feel fatigued and lose focus. Views to the outdoors and access to greenery have been shown to have restorative effects on these individuals. Based upon this evidence and the current needs of the space the concept “Natural Infusion was selected. This design will evoke the experience of an urban rooftop bar with its blend of urban and natural elements. In both of the spaces the concept will be demonstrated through the use of greenery and ample views to the outdoors, the color palette which features tones and hues found in the surrounding landscape, and industrial architecture. The goal of the design is to facilitate the diverse activities of both of the spaces while creating a stimulating environment that allows our users to be both comfortable and productive.
