A murphy bed unfolds from the wall to allow for an additional guest to stay. This is ideal for families with sick children. Research shows that family support hastens the healing process.

The television is equipped allows for streaming, Internet browsing and music. A medical educational program is included in the screen for educating patient & family.

The television and monitors serve as an entertainment source, control panel for light and air, as well as a full food menu served room service style.

A full wall of windows allows daylighting into both patient and guest areas. Research shows that daylight aids in the healing process.

Sustainable flooring by Shaw Contract and environmentally friendly upholstery by Knoll is included in the guest area.

A palette of spaces are provided to enhance and encourage collaboration amongst students and faculty. A variety of group studios and media equipped collaborative spaces are available for different types of learning and working. Collaborative spaces are offered in both public and private spaces. The private spaces are controlled by the Steelcase Room Wizard to secure reservations for team meetings & group work.

challenge propose a design for the renovation of howell hall to house the art and interior design departments at mississippi state university.

solution used the branding of each department to create distinct spaces and flexible studios, adequate office spaces, and a centrally located shared cafe space to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration.

The entry wall displays branding for Building Construction Sciences, Interior Design, and Art. Here, the beginning point for color-coded wayfinding is found. institutional The Interior Design studio, as a whole, creates a flexible environment that encourages peer engagement. The movable partition walls that define the space into three studios promote interaction within each class level. The surface of the partition walls serves as a white board, space for projection, and a sound barrier between other studio spaces. The corporate environment inspires students to work at a professional level which promotes productivity.

The art entry welcomes potential students and visitors with a gallery display of student and faculty artwork. Joining the gallery wall and office space, a GFRG structure serves as a design detail that draws people into a space where art serves as the backdrop for creative work.
