Introduction

With competition for talent at an all-time high across many sectors, inspirational leaders can make a difference for employees considering whether to stay or move on to the next opportunity . And should employees chose to stay, leaders need to be able to motivate and encourage them so they want to make active and valuable contributions .

The world is changing faster than ever, so now, more than ever, leaders must ensure their unique style is one that is agile so they can anticipate and adjust to meet the challenges and opportunities facing any business . When we take on the responsibility and honor of leadership, we must shift the way we look at ourselves, engage our team, and approach challenges and opportunities .

You might be thinking – another book on leadership? Well, it is my hope that you find this is not just another leadership book. I wrote it to be short, useful, and succinct – so you walk away with useful information you can apply right away to improve your leadership skill set .

Aspire to Inspire

I believe an inspirational leadership culture is the most important thing; I know the right people are in place to take care of the business . ”

Creating a dynamic leadership culture drives business and gets results, and it starts with showing leaders how to be inspirational . I view inspiration as a concept thatencompasses many things – engagement, inclusion, security, opportunity, feeling as if there is a solid future – and much more .

Leaders should start leading every day by thinking about each and every one of their people . Put employees first, and they will feel it. When employees are inspired, productivity goes through the roof . Instill this feeling, along with giving your employees some clarity about future opportunities, and they will not think twice about leaving the company when opportunities call .

If inspiration does not come naturally to you, I encourage you to think of those in your life who have inspired you . Who made you feel confident? How did you become empowered? Who helped you build trust? Who really listened to you? Who encouraged you to be brave? Lean on those examples from your own life – they will help you in your leadership journey .

Are You Self-aware?

Becoming an inspirational leader starts by being self-aware so you are authentic in your words and actions . By knowing your personal style, you can figure out what works for you and determine the best way to inspire others .

I am a believer that ego and self-awareness are highly linked . Strong, effective leaders check their ego at the door, making them more apt to think about how they are leading . Strong, effective leaders encourage open and honest feedback from their direct reports and ask them to offer critique and input so they can improve .

Authenticity is key here . Employees know when you are being authentic – and when you are not . Do what you need to do to make your employees feel like they matter . Have one-on-one conversations where you make them feel valued, heard, and understood .

Inclusion and Diversity – More than Talk

We are a fabric of different kinds of leaders with a common grounding . ” “

Being an inspirational leader means embracing and seeking many voices and perspectives . Only when we include all voices are we truly diverse . Building an exceptional culture means creating an environment where all employees feel valued, have a sense of belonging, and can be their best .

Again, it is up to you – as you work toward becoming an inspirational leader – to foster and grow an inclusive and diverse environment .

Know Your Numbers

As a manager, you should know your numbers inside-out,have interrogated them, and know them well personally, not just superficially. Be prepared to talk to any aspect of them .

Create the Culture You Need to Succeed

You can have a strategy, but you need to have a culture that aligns with it . ”

A culture that is connected to a company’s strategy is one that engages everyone at the company from top to bottom, starting at the top . A corporate culture embodies the values, ethics, and beliefs of those who work in the organization . As an inspirational leader, you must foster a culture that inspires employees and provides accountably and values to work and live by .

By embracing your company’s mission, vision, and values and becoming a living example for your team, you can have a positive influence on your employees and set the tone for their behavior . Transparency and honesty are key, and communicating with employees regularly reinforces your company’s positive cultural attributes .
