Welcome to September! I hope that the beginning of the school year and fall are off to a great start and that you are easily getting “back into the swing of things!” The Department is busy getting ready for the start of our After School Programs which begin the first week of October. We are also preparing for our Super Special Sunday program to begin in mid-October.

Department for People with Disabilities New Programs for 2018-2019 Important Information
All programs require an intake interview prior to enrollment unless otherwise noted. All fees and unit approvals are required prior to the start of the program. All programs operate at a 3:1 participant to staff ratio unless otherwise noted. Admission paperwork is required prior to the start of program (medical, authorizations, etc.). All programs require advanced registration and have a minimum number of participants to run. The Department for People with Disabilities has the right to cancel any programs which do not meet the minimum number of enrolled participants at least five business days prior to the start of the program.

Early Childhood (ages 3-5)

School Age (ages 6-12) Getting Sporty This introductory sports class exposes children to the skills, drills, and rules of popular sports. This class is perfect for beginner athletes who want to become more comfortable with sports. Children will gradually be challenged to increase engagement, work collaboratively, and follow multi-step directions. The class will also provide 10 minutes of free play at the end of the class which will be supervised by JCC staff. The free play period allows children to work on appropriate social skills while engaging in age appropriate activities. Fees: $198.60 per 6-week series or 90 units annually Day of Week: Tuesdays Dates: Session One- Soccer: October 9, October 16, October 23, October 30, November 13, November 20 Session Two- Basketball: January 8, January 15, January 22, January 29, February 12, February 26 Session Three- Baseball: April 2, April 9, April 16, April 30, May 7, May 14 Time: 4:00pm-5:00pm Krafty Kids No need for scissors in this art class! Bring your creativity to our Krafty Kids class which focuses on creating projects that are not paper-based. Projects will include clay, papier-mâché, fabric paints, and more! Children are encouraged to use their imaginations to create beautiful works of art in conjunction with Wizards of Art. This class focuses on the processes involved in art. Fees: $231.70 per 7-week series or 125 units per year Day of Week: Sundays Dates: Session One: September 16, September 23, September 30, October 7, October 14, October 21, October 28 Session Two: November 4, November 11, November 18, November 25, December 2, December 9, December 16 Session Three: February 24, March 3, March 10, March 17, March 24, March 31, April 7 Time: 11:00am-12:15pm Kidz Klub After School Inclusion Program Kidz Klub is an after-school program for children in grades K-8. The JCC provides a safe and nurturing environment for children to grow academically, physically, and socially. Children participating in Kidz Klub enjoy homework assistance, enrichment classes, arts & crafts, science, sports, and games. Children with disabilities are included with their peers in all activities through the dedicated support of our staff. School’s Out Trips Inclusion Program When school is out, the JCC is in! Join the JCC as we adventure into the community for days filled with fun and excitement throughout New York and New Jersey. Trips are open to children in grades K-8. Children with disabilities are included with their peers through the dedicated support of our staff. Super Special Sunday If your child is looking for an opportunity to meet new friends and participate in a variety of activities, then look no further! Participants (ages 6-21) will enjoy activities such as computers, science, fitness, sports, art, cooking, and more. All activities aim to foster socialization, collaboration with peers, and most importantly, FUN! Teen/Young Adult (ages 13-21) Chill & Chat Join us for an evening focused on social skills, turn-taking, and frustration tolerance in our Chill & Chat program. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities including board games, science experiments, discussion groups, and art projects. This is a perfect smorgasbord of activities which certainly has something for everyone! Fees: $397.20 per 10-week session or 200 units per year Day of Week: Wednesdays Dates: Session One: September 26, October 3, October 10, October 17, October 24, October 31, November 7, November 14, November 21, November 28 Session Two: January 2, January 9, January 16, January 23, January 30, February 6, February 13, February 27, March 6, March 13 Session Three: March 27, April 3, April 10, April 17, May 1, May 8, May 15, May 22, May 29, June 5 Time: 6:00pm-7:30pm Oh Come On and Be Dramatic! People are always saying, “don’t be dramatic!” However, at the JCC of Staten Island, we are flipping the tables and asking our teens and young adults, to bring the drama! We invite all of our aspiring actors and actresses to join us for a series of classes filled with opportunities for self-expression, inventing new realities, and learning to go with the flow. Adults (ages 21+) Ladies Night Out Calling all ladies! We have designed a program for the fabulous females of the community to come together and have some much-needed girl time! A weekly scheduled will be provided which highlights each week’s activities. One week you could find us whipping up a special treat while the next week you could find us learning how to do our hair and makeup. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of time for girl talk too! Mondays Are For the Men We are thrilled to host the marvelous men of the community on Monday evenings at the JCC of Staten Island. A weekly schedule will be provided which highlights the week’s activities. Activities will include sports, games, discussions, health & wellness lessons, social & recreational activities, and activities of daily living. This is the perfect opportunity for guys to come together and enjoy some quality male bonding time.
