Preview : Double Header Announced for Shanghai Spectacular Shanghai. The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia has announced a double-header for its Shanghai showcase meeting in support of the 2013 FORMULA 1 UBS CHINESE GRAND PRIX this weekend, with two 12-lap races on the 5.5km Shanghai International Circuit. A field of twenty-five Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars will line up on the grid, led by early championship points leader Martin Ragginger of Team Eagle. Ragginger got his 2013 title campaign off to a strong start in Malaysia last month, following up his pole position with an emphatic win in the opening round. For the Shanghai event, the field of sportscar professionals, which includes the likes of thrilling young newcomer Earl Bamber of Craft Nexus Racing, 2011 Champion Keita Sawa of LKM Racing Team, and Team Jebsen’s Rodolfo Avila of Macau, will be joined by former two-time Champion and current FIA World Touring Car Championship regular Darryl O’Young of Hong Kong. O’Young will be at the wheel of the Team Carrera Cup Asia car, entered by Porsche Centre Shanghai Pudong for the Shanghai event. Ragginger’s closest rival and reigning Porsche Carrera Cup Asia champion Alexandre Imperatori will miss the Shanghai event due to qualifying requirements for the legendary
24 Hours of Le Mans, where he will make his debut in June. Standing in for Imperatori is series newcomer and winner of the Middle East’s Gulfsport Trophy, 20-year-old female driver Natasha Seatter of Malaysia. Budweiser Kamlung Racing’s Tung Ho-Pin of China can be expected to bounce back from a challenging opening round where he was excluded for a technical infringement after crossing the line in sixth position, while Team Yongda Dongfang’s Benjamin Rouget of France will be looking to build on an encouraging start to the season despite a broken radiator ending his practice session before it had begun. Two other young professional newcomers, Tung’s team mate at Kamlung Racing, Peter Li Zhi Cong and Team C&D’s new driver Jason Zhang Zhi Qiang, both 19 years of age, will each be fascinating to watch as they gain experience against some of the most established and successful names in GT racing. Seasoned campaigner Wang Jian Wei of Team Betterlife, Class B champion in 2011, and this year contesting his third season, will be out to leverage his Porsche experience in Shanghai, while continued on page 2
