NEW STUDENT CHECKLIST There are a few tasks you should complete before you begin classes.

Before you attend New Student Orientation: Apply for parking as soon as possible. Parking is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis and by seniority. Apply for housing by June 1. Activate your College email account and log on to Moodle to access trainings and information by June 8. Submit your online Health Records Form and Emergency Contact Form by August 1.

Once you attend orientation, you will have a few more assignments to complete before the start of the year. Select your roommate (if applicable) by July 25. Submit your waiver and proof of coverage to opt out (if applicable) of College-sponsored health insurance coverage by July 31. Complete the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment by August 1. Submit your tuition payment by August 6. Complete the Student Fitness Center waiver by August 13. Read Summer Reading Program book and complete assignments by August 17. Excerpts of policies and procedures are included in this guidebook only as a quick reference. For complete policies, reference the Academic Catalog at stlcop.edu/catalog.

HEALTH INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS All students are required to maintain qualifying health insurance coverage while enrolled at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Students will be automatically enrolled in the College’s health insurance program unless they provide proof of coverage and request a waiver of coverage by July 31. Visit chpstudent.com and search for “St. Louis College of Pharmacy” to review requirements, enroll in the plan or submit a request to waive coverage. The College-sponsored health insurance plan is effective Aug. 1, 2018-July 31, 2019. The cost for the 2018-19 school year is $3,875 which will be divided into two semester payments. IMPORTANT DATES From community service events and health fairs to theater performances and BBQs, there is always something happening on campus! Before your schedule fills up, there are a few important dates to add to your calendar.

First Day of Classes Monday, Aug. 20 There’s nothing better than opening new textbooks, making new friends and starting new classes. Start your semester off right, by getting to class ten minutes early.

Resource Fair Tuesday, Aug. 21 Learn more about student organizations and Greek life, registering to vote and how to get involved on campus.

White Coat Ceremony Friday, Aug. 24 The White Coat Ceremony will mark the class of 2022’s transition into the professional program. During the ceremony, each student entering the Doctor of Pharmacy program will receive a white coat as a symbol of the profound responsibility that comes with their new role as a member of the profession.

Founders Day Celebration Friday, Nov. 9 During Founders Day, we recognize the legacy of those who came before and paved the way for the success of the College and its students. The campus community begins the day by giving back at volunteer sites across the St. Louis region and continues with a celebration on campus.

151st Commencement Saturday, May 11, 2019 The College’s 151st Commencement will recognize students earning Bachelors of Science and Doctors of Pharmacy.

LIVING ON CAMPUS You will find everything you need to succeed right here on campus. Living in a residence hall provides a unique opportunity to build lifelong friendships, take advantage of support resources and find success. On-campus living provides access to personal support resources, and a full-time residence hall coordinator lives on-site to assist students. Resident assistants, faculty, staff and professional counselors are also available to help you adjust to the new responsibilities college life brings.

North Residence Hall Freshman and sophomore students reside in North Residence Hall, located on Floors 5-7 of the Recreation and Student Center. Opened in August 2017, the new, 220-bed residence hall is card-access only and guests must check in at the front desk. North Residence Hall bedrooms are shared by two roommates. Bathrooms join two bedrooms and are shared by four suitemates.

South Residence Hall Upperclassmen and professional students live in South Residence Hall, which was updated in 2017 to offer apartment-style living in single- and double-occupancy rooms or suites. Suites include four single-occupancy rooms that are connected by a living room and upgraded suites have a kitchenette. Single- and double-occupancy rooms are also available. Each room type is available with or without a kitchenette upgrade.

HOUSING REQUIREMENTS Undergraduate students are required to live on campus during the fall and spring semesters of their freshman, sophomore and junior years. Applications for waivers to live off campus may be considered based on criteria such as location of permanent address, age, marital status or dependents. At St. Louis College of Pharmacy, we are committed to the safety, security, and well-being of our students, faculty and staff. The College continually works to improve security and foster a safe and secure climate for learning and living.

The College offers two garage options for student parking. The Duncan Central Garage is located one block from campus on Duncan Avenue, and the Children’s Place Garage is located on Children’s Place across from the MetroLink station.

By incorporating community policing practices, public safety officer services, state-of-the-art technology, and strategic partnerships with local police departments and neighboring institutions, the Office of Public Safety works to foster a feeling of security and safety, and provide quality services to the campus. The public safety base station is located in the College’s parking garage and is staffed 24 hours per day, seven days per week. In the event of an emergency, the office can be reached at any time at 314.446.SAFE (7233).

EXPLORE ST. LOUIS St. Louis offers the best of both worlds – big city allure with a small town feel. The city is a hub of cultural, educational and social activity, yet it’s small enough to navigate on your own. Residents can enjoy the excitement of city life or the tranquility of nearby historic neighborhoods, just a few miles from downtown. Across the region, more than 100 parks offer spaces to play sports, see a concert or just enjoy the outdoors. Forest Park, just blocks from campus, boasts 1,300 acres of green space and is home to the Saint Louis Art Museum, Missouri History Museum, Saint Louis Zoo, Saint Louis Science Center and The Muny. St. Louis is home to two professional sports teams: St. Louis Cardinals baseball and St. Louis Blues hockey. Several minor league teams also provide great opportunities for spectators. The St. Louis area is home to a variety of drama and opera theaters, dance companies, museums and the second-oldest symphony orchestra in the United States.

FIND YOUR FAVORITE NEIGHBORHOOD St. Louis is made up of neighborhoods, each with its own unique personality. As you explore the city, you’re sure to find your favorite. You can start by checking a few of our students’ favorites!

• Central West End: The College is located in the CWE – a mix of sidewalk cafes, galleries, cinemas, apartments and homes.

• The Grove: The Grove is home to funky boutiques and unique restaurants. It’s also a favorite place to find nightlife.

• The Hill: Nationally noted for Italian cuisine, this neighborhood is your spot for ziti, gelato, cannoli and toasted ravioli (a St. Louis staple).

• The Loop: Named one of the “Great Streets in America,” the Delmar Loop is a thriving core of nightlife with unique shops, music venues and restaurants.

• Midtown/Grand Center: Home to the city’s esteemed arts district, Midtown and Grand Center are rich with theatre and music.

• Soulard: This neighborhood has one of the oldest farmer’s markets in the country, one of the largest Mardi Gras celebrations outside of New Orleans and the famed Anheuser-Busch Brewery.

STUDENT SUCCESS CENTER We care about student success, both inside and outside the classroom, and our support staff works to provide you with the support and resources you need. The Student Success Center brings resources together in one place.

Academic Advising Students are assigned a faculty advisor who will help guide academic, cocurricular and career planning. Undergraduate students are assigned to an advisor in the School of Arts and Sciences. Professional students are assigned to an advisor in the School of Pharmacy.

Selecting a Major Undergraduate students are required to select their major during the second semester of sophomore year. Your faculty advisor will help you through the process of choosing a major and determining what courses you should take.

Academic Coaching The Student Success Center offers individual academic coaching for students that need a more comprehensive plan for success. In the Success Center, students can learn to improve study habits and time management skills or learn to better manage stress. Staff can help students develop a plan that best suits their needs and goals.

TUTORING Tutoring provides additional academic support to students in specific classes at no cost. It is designed to improve academic standing and successful retention of students. • Walk-In and Group Tutoring: Students registered for specific courses may attend any weekly group session offered. • Small Group Tutoring: Students enrolled in specific courses may register for a small group session. Group members meet weekly with a tutor to review new course information. Groups are limited to seven students per group. • Private Tutoring: Instructors or tutors may refer students to private tutoring services. Sessions are determined on an individual basis.

PEER MENTORING Peer mentoring is available to all incoming students. Student mentors are paired with student mentees to help them get connected to campus life and learn more about the College. Mentor-mentee pairs communicate weekly and participate in two meetings each month during the academic year. During their meetings, students may choose to discuss grades, study habits and coursework, attend on-campus events together or do other fun activities like go out for coffee.

DISABILITY SUPPORT PROGRAM The College’s disability support program is organized by the assistant director of academic support. The assistant director serves as the liaison between students, faculty and administration, advocating for fair and reasonable student accommodations. Students who have a documented disability or learning disability such as ADHD, dyslexia, autism spectrum disorder, hearing impairment, physical conditions or other disability may choose to self-identify. All information will be considered confidential and only released to appropriate personnel on a need-to-know basis. COUNSELING CENTER College is a time of transition and change. Our counseling staff is specially trained in assisting college students. The Counseling Center is located on the fourth floor of the Recreation and Student Center. Counseling services are available for any students currently enrolled at the College. STLCOP SUMMER READING PROGRAM The STLCOP Summer Reading Program welcomes new students to the College’s learning community through the thoughtful exploration of meaningful questions in the health humanities. For the 2018-19 academic year, students will read “The Anatomist” by Bill Hayes and make journal entries using Moodle throughout the summer. The program will conclude with on-campus discussion sessions during Welcome Week and a visit with Bill Hayes on Tuesday, Sept. 4. Be sure to check your email for more details!

CAREER AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Whether you are interested in pursuing a career in pharmacy, biotechnology, occupational therapy or optometry, the College can help you find a path that best aligns with your career goals. With our focus on health care across the curriculum, you will receive an education applicable to real-world, professional experience.

A bachelor’s degree from the College can prepare you to begin your health care career, or it can be used as a foundation to apply to graduate and professional programs. The professional program focuses on preparing student pharmacists to provide interprofessional, evidence-based, patient-centered care in any practice setting, achieving positive drug therapy outcomes for patients. LIBRARY The two-story library is located on the east end of the Academic and Research Building. Within the library, students, faculty and staff will find books, journals and other media. Not only does the library offer many educational resources, but it also provides movie and board game rental, a comfortable environment where students can read and study, and it has ample study space that is accessible 24/7. NORTON WRITING CENTER The Norton Writing Center offers one-on-one assistance with all types of writing. The center assists with resume and curriculum vitae development, cover letters, essay-test writing and other writing topics. Students seeking additional language and writing support can meet with the director for guidance. In addition, the center holds workshops and produces handouts for citation, style, grammar and punctuation.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT CENTER The Technical Support Center can assist students with computer support, database management, instructional media development and all technology-related problems. For questions, contact the Technical Support Center at 314.446.5555 or technicalsupport@stlcop.edu.

CALCULATOR REQUIREMENTS The TI-30X IIS scientific calculator is required for precalculus, calculus, statistics, physics and introduction to pharmacy practice. Calculators are available in the campus bookstore in the Mid Campus Center, just across Children’s Place from the South Residence Hall and Jones Hall.

EXPLORE THE WORLD Through international service learning, you can provide service to communities in need. By engaging with residents of the host country, you will grow personally, professionally and learn about the local community. For pharmacy students, the College offers opportunities to complete advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPEs) around the world. International rotations focus on global health issues and the challenges faced by health care professionals in other countries. Locations include India, Ireland, Portugal, South Africa, Swaziland, the United Kingdom and many more! The College also maintains partnerships with international institutions such as Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa and Trinity College in Ireland that provide students with opportunities to travel and learn abroad.

NAIA DIVISION I ATHLETICS The College is a member of the American Midwest Conference (AMC), a Division I conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Student-athletes compete in 12 sports at the intercollegiate level. Encouraging a high level of competition while maintaining academic excellence as the highest priority is at the center of our athletic program.
