Vivian Alexander (Our Lady of the Spa) is a sophomore Musical Theatre major and is thrilled to be performing in her second main stage show! She most recently made her debut at Carthage as Sue Snell in CARRIE: THE MUSICAL, and is very grateful for the many performance opportunities Carthage offers. Past credits include THE WIZARD OF OZ (Dorothy), THE GAME’S AFOOT (Aggie Wheeler), TUCK EVERLASTING (Winnie Foster). Vivian would like to thank her family and friends for the never ending support and encouragement.
Arielle Allen (Renata) is a freshman Music Education major with a Musical Theatre minor and is ecstatic to be a part of NINE! Some recent roles of hers include: THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST(Gwendolen Fairfax), NEWSIES (Jojo), ALADDIN JR.(Jasmine) SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN (Lina Lamont). She was also a teacher’s assistant to her alma mater’s middle school choir and is an avid member of Carthage Choir. Lorelai Amborn (Claudia Nardi) is a freshman at Carthage majoring in Musical Theatre and minoring in Secondary Education! Past credits at Carthage include You 5-The Leader in THE GENDERLESS PLAY EXPERIMENT. Other credits include Beetlejuice in the pilot showcase of BEETLEJUICE: HIGH SCHOOL EDITION, Cathy in the high school pilot production of TREVOR, Hunyak in CHICAGO, and Mrs. Teavee in the high school pilot production of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY. Ericca Rose (Lina Darling) is a graduate student earning her Masters of Music in Musical Theatre Vocal Pedagogy. Past musical theatre credits include Mary Lane in REEFER MADNESS, Isabel in PIRATES OF PENZANCE, Little Red in INTO THE WOODS, and many others. Emma Faucault-Miller (Guido’s Mother) is a freshman Musical Theatre major and is very excited to make her stage debut at Carthage! Past credits include Donna Sheridan in MAMMA MIA!, Mae Tuck in TUCK EVERLASTING, Chiffon in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS and Farah the Faerie in SHE KILLS MONSTERS. Emma is involved in many ways on campus, most notably: a member of the Treble Choir, member of Merely Players improv, and is also a tour guide! Dominic Gentile (Little Guido) is a 6th grader at Lance Middle School. Chase Juster (Guido Contini) is a Sophomore Musical Theatre Major and Dance Minor. Chase is so excited to be a part of his third mainstage at Carthage. Ellis Medina (Sofia) is a Freshman Musical Theatre major and Spanish minor. She is very excited to make her Carthage theater debut! Past credits include: Shelby in THE PROM, Patty Simcox in GREASE, Dance Captain/Featured Dancer in MAMMA MIA. Ellie is involved in the dance and music program at Carthage and is a student ambassador. In her hometown, she works as a Choreographer/Director for her local private arts academy, working with students of all ages. Danae Palmer (Maria/Mama Maddelena/Olga) is a Junior double major in Musical Theatre and Public Relations. Neil Kristian Scharnick (Director) teaches and directs for Carthage, in addition to serving as Director of the Honors Program. Neil holds a Ph.D. in Theatre and Drama from UW-Madison, an M.A. in Theatre from Northwestern, and degrees in Religion and Theatre from Carthage. Past directing credits include PROOF, PUFFS, MARRIAGE A LA MODE, THE SERPENT, TRANSLATIONS, and DEAD MAN’S CELL PHONE. As a director for Carthage’s New Play Initiative, Scharnick has brought to the stage the world-premiere productions of Laura Schellhardt’s THE HANDBOOK, Caridad Svich’s THE BREATH OF STARS, Martin Maguire’s A CLAMOUR OF ROOKS, and MEMENTO MORI, as well as the world premiere translation of modern Hindi classic ONE DAY IN THE SEASON OF RAIN. Past collaborations with Carthage Music Theatre include INTO THE WOODS, FLORA THE RED MENACE, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS and THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE.

Zackary “SLiM” Simonini (Technical Director) is thrilled to be working with the Carthage team yet again. Slim is professor of Stagecraft here at Carthage and enjoys being able to continue to make theatre magic! He is a General Theatre graduate from the class of 2012. When not Tech Directing he enjoys acting. Check out his movie debut of Planetquake or his upcoming releases of Weekend Deadaway (September 2024) or Continental Split (Summer 2024). . He would like to thank his family, friends, Tommy, Marty, and his lovely superstar of a wife Allison Simonini. All of these wonderful people are owed a thank you for encouraging Slim to continue to pursue a life in the arts.
Martin McClendon (Scenic/Projection Designer, Dialect Coach) teaches, directs, and designs scenery for Carthage Theatre. He has received KC/ACTF Certificates of Merit for scenic design for the Carthage productions of MAN OF LA MANCHA, BOEING BOEING, ONE DAY IN THE SEASON OF RAIN, DEAD MAN’S CELL PHONE, and a collaborative certificate for video technology for THE BREATH OF STARS. Martin was also honored to receive the Association for Theatre in Higher Education Innovative Teaching Award for 201617 for his work with students in developing veteran theatre projects, including the Veteran Night of the Arts fundraiser. Before coming to Carthage, Martin spent 10 years working as a professional actor, carpenter, and scene designer in Chicago and Los Angeles. He was nominated three times for Non-Equity Jeff Citation Awards while designing scenery for the Defiant Theatre Company, Chicago. In addition to designing scenery, video, and sound at Carthage, regional scene design credits include Milwaukee Chamber Theatre and First Stage Children’s Theatre (Milwaukee, WI), Actor’s Ensemble (Rockford, IL), and The Evidence Room and Odyssey Theatres (Los Angeles, CA). Onstage appearances in Chicago include MOJO and SKYLIGHT (Steppenwolf), DANNY BOUNCING (Victory Gardens) and THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (Northlight). On-camera work
includes several independent movies, episodes of ER and EARLY EDITION, and numerous commercials. He is a proud member of Actor’s Equity and SAG/AFTRA. Martin received his MFA in acting from the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana, and his BFA in acting from Rockford College. He would like to thank his beautiful wife Jennifer and his wonderful kids Arabella and Horatio for their support and inspiration.
Kim Instenes (Costume Designer) holds an MFA in Costume Design and Technology from Ohio University, and a BA in Theatre from UW-Whitewater. Kim continues to work as a freelance costume and make-up designer in the Milwaukee/Chicago area. Professional design credits include THE SNOW and BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER, as well as the musical BIG at Milwaukee’s First Stage Children’s Theatre, the JEEVES Trilogy and INDECENT at Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, and numerous shows at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Renaissance Theatre Works, Utah Shakespearean Festival and the Racine Theatre Guild. Design work at Carthage includes SOMETHING ROTTEN and costumes for the world premieres of NO NAME by Jeffrey Hatcher and GHOST BIKE by Laura Jacqmin, to name a few. GHOST BIKE won her a Certificate of Merit from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for costume and makeup design and an invitation to show her work at the Festival. Kim is excited to be a part of the Theatre Department here at Carthage as it strengthens and strives to create theatre artists of the highest quality. She enjoys the thrill of watching a student understand what a costume does for their character and watching that character come to life as a result. Julie E. Ballard (Lighting Designer) USA829, is a professional lighting designer, ETCP-certified electrician, and theatrical technician. She is affiliated with IATSE Local 2 and the Actors’ Equity Association. Additionally, Ms. Ballard is the owner/operator of OverlapLighting Productions, LLC, a freelance production company specializing in lighting design, production/stage management, and photography. She has designed for the Charlotte Ballet, Giordano Dance Chicago, Ballet
West, and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. She has freelanced for two decades in and around the Midwest, touring regionally, nationally, and internationally with Hubbard Street, Pilobolus, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, The Seldoms, and David Dorfman Dance, among others. Theatre audiences have seen her designs in the U.S., across Europe, Siberia, and South Africa. Joshua Heinlein (Assistant Choreographer), originally from El Paso, Texas, is proud to call himself a Chicago actor of eight years. He received his education in Kentucky and has a BA in Theater and Music Performance and had the wonderful opportunity to be a part of Blackbird Dance Theater during his years there. While he primarily sings and dances, he is thrilled to be making his collegiate debut as a choreographer. He is a proud husband and soon to be father. Colin Campbell (Assistant Stage Manager) is a Sophomore double major in Musical Theatre and Technical Stage Management. He is ecstatic to be on the other side of the cast for the first time! Past Credits include: CARRIE: THE MUSICAL (Freddy), LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (Seymour Krelborn), THE ADDAMS FAMILY (Lucas Beineke), CRAZY FOR YOU (Lank Hawkins). Owen Holecko (Assistant Stage Manager) is a freshman double majoring in Playwriting and Theatrical Directing. He is excited to finish his first year strong with the opportunity to assistant stage manage Nine. Previously, he has student-directed LEGALLY BLONDE at Neenah High School. He has stage managed THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST JUNIOR, and assistant stage managed CARRIE. Owen has also acted in multiple productions, including PUFFS (Ernie Mac), ANASTASIA (Count Ipolitov), and SEUSSICAL (Ensemble). He would like to thank his parents and sister for always supporting him in everything he does!
Chynna Chung (Music Assistant) is a master student in Music Theatre Vocal Pedagogy and received her bachelor’s degree from Parkside in Vocal Performance and Music Education. She has performed in and directed various community theatre productions across Southeast Wisconsin. She is currently the choir director and performance arts teacher at Washington Middle School in Kenosha. She wants to thank her husband Bryan for always being her biggest supporter!
Chiara Mao (Music Assistant) is a master student in Music Theatre vocal pedagogy. She is an international student, this is her second time joining in musical production at Carthage. She’s so glad to join this wonderful team. Chiara is also an assistant with the teacher of musical history class, doing some voice teacher work off campus. She wants to thank her parents, brother, friends for always supporting and giving her encouragement, and thank teachers for giving her chances to do those things. Hope you enjoy this show!
Daniel Michalec (Assistant Sound/Projection Designer) is a Freshman majoring in Theatre Technical Direction. He is ecstatic to be a part of another Carthage production learning more about both sound and projection in a short period of time and being able to see his work

This production is entered in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF). The aims of this national theater education program are to identify and promote quality in college-level theater production. To this end, each production entered is eligible for a response by a regional KCACTF representative, and selected students and faculty are invited to participate in KCACTF programs involving scholarships, internships, grants and awards for actors, directors, dramaturgs, playwrights, designers, stage managers and critics at both the regional and national levels.
Productions entered on the Participating level are eligible for invitation to the KCACTF regional festival and may also be considered for national awards recognizing outstanding achievement in production, design, direction and performance.
Last year more than 1,500 productions were entered in the KCACTF involving more than 200,000 students nationwide. By entering this production, our theater department is sharing in the KCACTF goals to recognize, reward, and celebrate the exemplary work produced in college and university theaters across the nation.
