What was your favorite Pi Theta tradition?
My favorite tradition was the candle ceremony. It was always so exciting to find out which sister was lavaliere-d, pinned or engaged!
If you had the chance to relive a single Pi Theta moment, which one would you choose?
I have given this a lot of thought and I think the event that stands out in my mind the most is the very first night we all got together. I remember coming into the dorm after hours (yes, we had a curfew back then) and finding a note taped on our door. It was inviting my roommate (Diana Grate) and I to an upperclassman's room. We weren't sure what to make of it, we were both excited and scared at the same time. In the room were many girls I had only seen or known from a distance. There were several from the "Old Campus" and several upperclassmen who were leaders on campus. They talked about their desire to start a sorority on campus. We all agreed and the process started that night after hours in a dorm room in Denhart Hall crammed with wide eyed, very enthusiastic girls. The dream and vision of that night was the beginning of Pi Theta!
Personal Message for the Memory Book:
I am sorry that I could not be there to celebrate these 50 years with you. It is hard to believe it has been that long. I wish the current Pi Thetas continued success and may the sisterhood continue to grow in the future.
As for me, my husband of 47 years and Carthage grad, Jay and I, are retired and now reside an Indianapolis suburb close to our son and two darling granddaughters. In the winter we live in Bonita Springs, FL. We are active in our church, condo association and love to bike, swim, walk the beach, travel, and play pickleball.

What was your favorite Pi Theta tradition?
My favorite Pi Theta tradition was Senior Farewell. As an underclassman, I loved to hear each woman's story. I loved to follow along with all their memories as if they were my own, and as if they were an exciting suggestion for what I was about to experience. The love we all had for each other was so clear at this time. The smallest of details were described with great emotion and each woman thanked the other for the influence they had upon their lives. I was terrified to write my own farewell but I was so thankful to have the opportunity to let each woman know just how much they meant to me. No matter what might be going on in each woman's life, they came with an open mind and left with a full heart.
If you had the chance to relive a single Pi Theta moment, which one would you choose? I cannot imagine choosing only one moment to relive. Each moment we had together seemed as though it was the most exciting, hilarious, enjoyable time possible. I wish I could relive my senior year. I would like to take advantage of every outing, mixer, and event to make a lasting impact on the sorority. I would make sure each woman felt appreciated. I would shop for crazier outfits at the thrift store, and would forego any nights alone for a girls night in with favorite movies and snacks. I have never met women that were just as smart, funny, and honest as these girls.
Personal Message for the Memory Book:
I wish I could go back to the days that I was surrounded by my safety net of best friends, Pi Theta. You guided me to the woman I wanted to become. You made me confident, successful. You made me feel as though my opinion mattered and that I brightened your day. I have what feels like a lifetime of memories from my three short years with you women. I will forever cherish our nights stressing over pledge activities, what to wear, where to go out, heartbreak, senior theses, heartbreak, trying to plan for the future, heartbreak, laughing until we cried, and crying until we laughed.
Thank you for all the laughs, dances, dinners, and endless love.

Personal Message for the Memory Book:
I've had plenty of great memories with Pi Theta. A few memories that stick out include the flash mob dance at La Fogata, late nights on the floor, stealing the DJ spot light at semi-formal, and pre-gaming while dressing up for mixers. The memory I will always keep in my heart forever is when my Pi Theta sisters supported my family and I at my mom's memorial service. I was so overwhelmed with love and support when I saw all of my sisters walk into the room. My sisters have definitely made me a stronger person. Sisterhood is a wonderful thing. Peace, Love and Pi Theta!

Personal Message for the Memory Book:
After school I had the pleasure to travel to Spain to visit my beautiful Pi Theta daughter Heidi and hit the road with Angie Abegglan for an impromptu trip to New Orleans to experience the Packer Super Bowl game in New Orleans.
Now I'm a wife and the mother of Mia, who is 7 and high functioning autistic, and Matthew (Matty), 4. I had the honor to spend some time with Temple Grandin (look her up or watch the movie). She revived my determination and dreams for my daughter and what the future can hold for her. I am also involved with an organization that helps our local families find resources and support for their family member who has a disability and am working to start a Time Bank in our county.
I'm so sorry I could not be there to celebrate with all of you. I cherish the memories I have from my time at Carthage and to the women who I had the privilege to laugh, cry, and grow with, I love you! Please have a Long Island for me! And if you are ever in Door County please let me know! Peace, Love, Pi Theta

What was your favorite Pi Theta tradition?
Just one?! Kick-line probably, but the candlelightings are a close second
If you had the chance to relive a single Pi Theta moment, which one would you choose? Again... just one? That is difficult. It could be the last picnic for seniors in 1969 when we sang "No Man Is an Island" substituting words just for us. However, it could also be many moments, the ones where we met in each others' room to sharing joy, sadness, funny stories, counsel, comfort, planning surprises, etc. Those seem to be the moments that return over and over.
Personal Message for the Memory Book:
At the last reunion I attended, I was delighted to see that Pi Thetas are still women with dignity of character. Oh yes, we certainly had our share of silly moments, got in a little trouble (remember how we killed the grass when we used laundry detergent spelling? Pi Theta?). We are sisters not just a sisterhood. We shared, we cared and we dared to be honest with each other, not afraid to answer the question, "Does this look fat on me?" That is what I hope will continue as Pi Theta moves into the future.
Family: Our kids still live in CO and we get together with them as much as their and our time allows. Joel preceded me by a year into retirement and last year we took a big trip (since New Zealand/Australia in 2001) to Great Britain and, to fulfill my sisters and my first bucket-list item, meeting in person our cousins in the native Ireland. Hoping to continue trips like these.

If you had the chance to relive a single Pi Theta moment, which one would you choose? I would relive all of pledging. Even though it was stressful and sometimes overwhelming at the time, I made the most memories and I had some of the best times of my life during pledging. I also got to know and love eight wonderful young women and created a special bond that I will not have with anyone else.
Personal Message for the Memory Book:
I am struggling to write some specific memories because almost every single memory I have from college involves a Pi Theta. I am so blessed and thankful for the experiences I had and the lifelong friends I made within Pi Theta. Looking back I recall times that were filled with laughter and joy, and I recall times of anger and frustration. All of that occurs within a family, and that is truly what Pi Theta was for me. When my students ask me about college, I tell them that it was the best four years of my life and I have Pi Theta to thank for that. I love you all and I'm so happy our organization is growing and continuing to touch young women's lives.

What was your favorite Pi Theta tradition? My favorite Pi Theta memory was our candlelight tradition and we all were so vulnerable and so close as sisters. We were a family and it was the most amazing feeling to be a part of in our sorority!
If you had the chance to relive a single Pi Theta moment, which one would you choose? Walk out during pledging! So fun with some of the greatest girls and friends!
Personal Message for the Memory Book: Dear Sisters of Pi Theta,
To all of you who have been in and out of my life in all extensions, THANK YOU! When I was a junior and my mom passed I could not have gotten through it without all of you! You were my saving grace and I will always be in debt to you all. What I experienced was family and sisterhood to the highest level. As our lives change through the years I am so blessed to have a lot of you still in my life and continue the journey of life ups and downs. Life is to short so live it as full as you can! I will continue to live by the #1 rule: “treat others as you want to be treated!”
Love you all and cannot wait to see you all!

Personal Message for the Memory Book: Being in Pi Theta was a wonderful experience after coming out of high school. Leaving home for the first time was difficult enough, so being with my sisters certainly helped me get through the years. There was always someone to talk to day or night. One very fond memory would be walking to breakfast along the lake and seeing the sun come up, and then the reflection of the moon at night on the lake. It was so peaceful!

What was your favorite Pi Theta tradition? Functions. ALL of them. The prep, scrounging to find a date, buying a dress, dancing with sisters, bonding in the bathroom, kick-line time, DASHBOARD lights.
If you had the chance to relive a single Pi Theta moment, which one would you choose? Too many to choose from. Formal senior year in Milwaukee...we all went out Friday before and had so much fun in the hotel room and dancing at Have A Nice Day Cafe. The next night we took random dates to the dance and they ditched us so we locked them out of our hotel rooms. We all bonded and have so many good laughs.
Personal Message for the Memory Book: Pi Theta was the highlight to my college experience. I made the best friends of my life and had some of my fondest memories with the sorority. I knew from day one I was a part of something special. Now I’m doing kick-lines at Pi Theta weddings and it reminds me of where our friendship began.

What was your favorite Pi Theta tradition?
As many know Halloween is my favorite so the hayride was always the best! So many fond memories of Black Magic. Certainly fun was had by all! From barn dances to jumping off of the hayride for a potty break, because of lots of "hot chocolate". Rainbow restaurant was always hilarious too! The only time where you purposely put your bra and panties outside of your clothes. Other traditions were not specific to the sorority but yet to the fun group of girls I was with such as 100 shot club and kick-lines where they would scream in my ears!
If you had the chance to relive a single Pi Theta moment, which one would you choose? If there was only one moment I could re-live, it would probably be a lock-in, nothing better than being told you have to stay in the whole night and hang out with your best friends! Also, if I could do it again I probably would have spent more time in my room with my wonderful roommates.
Personal Message for the Memory Book: Ladies I hope you use this opportunity to reconnect with many of the wonderful women we have had in our lives. And thank you to the many of you who keep me and my family in your thoughts and prayers.
Me, D, Trish, Ellingboe these are the girls that would scream and my ears! I love this picture of us at homecoming 2010. I was expecting my 4th, Sophia Virginia.

Personal Message for the Memory Book:
My husband, son, and I live in Toronto, Ohio. Gary and I met in Berlin, Germany where he was stationed in the Army and I was traveling and studying abroad. We lived in Berlin for the first three years where we got married and traveled extensively. After finishing his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees, we moved to Ohio where he taught psychology at Franciscan University, Steubenville. He retired in 2010. He is a long distance runner and online book reviewer.
My Carthage (teaching) degree was beneficial everywhere we lived providing subbing and fulltime opportunities. For several years, I had a private tutoring practice which included teaching Spanish to elementary-aged children. I am pursing my travel passion as a tour coordinator/office manager for a family-owned tour operator. With a group of friends, I have had the privilege of traveling to Italy, China, Germany, Austria, Ireland, Scotland, Croatia, and Dubai. In February, we will venture to Thailand.
We adopted our son, Jarrett, from Chile in 1988- the ultimate adventure. We spent one month in a hotel room with a four-month old while we completed the international adoption process. My Carthage Spanish courses were quite useful. Jarrett is a pipefitter and a sergeant in the Ohio National Guard.
Gary and I enjoy participating in running events and cruising. We traveled around the country for many summers in our motor home before ‘parking it’ on Hilton Head Island, SC were we spend several weeks a year.
I treasure my Carthage years and my Pi Theta sisterhood. Carthage was the perfect choice for me: small, nurturing, faith-based and challenging.

What was your favorite Pi Theta tradition? This is probably so strange, but I really liked pledging! Yes, it was difficult, but being able to spend so much quality time with your pledge sisters made it all worth it. I will never forget those moments!

If you had the chance to relive a single Pi Theta moment, which one would you choose? I just really loved living on the floor - having our doors open and just popping in to say hi! :)
Personal Message for the Memory Book:
I regret being a bit of a B... and I just want to apologize for that - if I was to you... I've grown a lot since 2003 and the days of Pi Theta. I look back on those days fondly, but have found true happiness where I'm at, in the present. I thank GOD for the wonderful memories at Carthage and through Pi Theta - they have formed me into a BETTER person than I was. I wish I was closergeographically - to many more people but what I love is those whom I haven't spoken with in a while - it's like we picked up where we left off - but better! Since graduation I've been lots of different places and in many different jobs. With the help of my friend Kate Rasman and Sarah (Preston) Bird (Kevin was my kick in the pants) I began running. I ran my first half marathon in September 2003 and have been running ever since. I've run 5 marathons and completed my first Ironman in Madison, Wisconsin on September 8, 2013it wasn't pretty - but one of the greatest physical achievements of my life! My plan is to step it up in 2016 and do it again!
I have continued singing and am currently on rotation as a worship leader at Wooddale Church in Eden Prairie, MN.
In 2010 after countless prayers - the Lord heard my prayers and blessed me with a Godly man. Jeff Tarman came into my life in January 2010 and has since become my best friend and partner - I was blessed to marry him on August 3, 2014.
My family was blessed again on August 23, 2014, with my nephew Joshua Douglas Drexler. I'm not a parent, so I don't know that kind of love, but this little boy is my LOVE... I mean, I love my husband, but this little person - I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!! His presence on this earth has heightened my sense of LOVE and JOY and if I only feel a FRACTION of the joy parents feelI am in AWE! I love HIM! :)
I want to say THANK YOU to Julie (Gabrys) Knotek for being such a LOVING, CARING, and UNDERSTANDING roommate for two years... even though I was "something else..." I know I wasn't the best roommate and I can't tell you how sorry I am for being a jerk. But, I pray that our lives have grown us into people who LOVE and FORGIVE despite the past. Your FAMILY is BEAUTIFUL and your BOYS are ADORABLE! I pray that the LORD would bless your life - as you have been a blessing. I have and continue to love and respect you. :)
To Sarah, Kelly, Kate, and Jenna... I miss you girls... ALWAYS... I think of you ALWAYS... and although we don't talk - EVER... the love and admiration I have for each of you is beyond words. May the GOD of Wonders bless you and your families now and always.
I thank GOD for bringing me into this family called Pi Theta and for blessing me with beautiful friendships and relationships - may they continue to grow and flourish.
