Knud Breyer, Stefan König Der dritte Band der Abteilung „Lieder und Chorwerke“ der Reger-Werkausgabe (RWA) umfasst die zwischen 1901 und Februar 1903 fast ausnahmslos in München entstandenen Lieder Max Regers. Mit diesen Kompositionen trat Reger nicht nur in die direkte Konkurrenz zur sogenannten „Münchner Schule“ um Ludwig Thuille, Max von Schillings und Richard Strauss, sondern versuchte sich auch überregional als kompromissloser Neuerer der Gattung zu etablieren. Die Lieder heben sich durch ihren zukunftsweisenden deklamatorischen Stil von der romantischen Liedästhetik ab und weisen eine Behandlung des Klaviers auf, die weit über die herkömmliche Liedbegleitung hinausgeht.

The third volume in the “Songs and Choral Works” series of the Reger Complete Works (RWA) contains the songs Max Reger composed almost entirely in Munich between 1901 and February 1903. With these compositions, Reger not only e ntered into direct competition with the so-called “Munich School” around Ludwig Thuille, Max von Schillings, and Richard Strauss, but also attempted to establish himself more widely as an uncompromising renewer of the genre. The songs contrast with the Romantic song aesthetic through their forward-looking declamatory style and they display a treatment of the piano which goes far beyond conventional song accompaniment.

Christopher Grafschmidt, Claudia Seidl Band 11 der Abteilung „Lieder und Chorwerke“ enthält mit den Drei Chören op. 6 (1892) Regers einzige Originalkomposition für eine gemischte Vokalbesetzung und Klavier, in der er zudem erstmals seine zweifarbige Notationsweise (Notentext in Schwarz, Vortragsanweisungen in Rot) anwandte. Darüber hinaus bietet der Band die von Reger zwischen 1903 und 1914 angefertigten Klavierauszüge eigener chorsinfonischer Werke, dem Gesang der Verklärten op. 71, dem 100. Psalm op. 106, den Nonnen op. 112, dem Einsiedler op. 144a und dem Requiem op. 144b sowie dem Weihegesang WoO V/6 für Alt, gemischten Chor und Bläser.

Volume 11 of the “Songs and Choral Works” series contains the Drei Chöre op. 6 (1892), Reger’s only original composition for a mixed vocal scoring and piano in which he used his two-color method of notation for the first time (musical text in black, performance instructions in red). In addition, the volume contains the piano reductions of some of the choral-symphonic works which Reger composed b etween 1903 and 1914 – the Gesang der Verklärten op. 71, Psalm 100 op. 106, Nonnen op. 112, Einsiedler op. 144a, the Requiem op. 144b, and the Weihegesang WoO V/6 for alto, mixed choir and winds.
