CARVED VOICES A CELEBRATION OF POETRY/ART 24TH MAY 2016, 1ST ISSUE CARVEDVOICES.WORDPRESS.COM

Our Founder/Editor Sonali Mohapatra (top middle) has a crazy heart....whose musings, more often that not, emanate an ardent sense of longing and earnest rebellion. She considers poetry as something deeply personal and very fluid, something that takes the shape of the person it goes into. Carved Voices began as the outpouring of her deep seated angst to make poetry and art mainstream. This quote by Henry Miller is often what imbibes her pen: "“I see myself forever and ever as the ridiculous man, the lonely soul, the wanderer, the restless frustrated artist, the man in love with love, always in search of the absolute, always seeking the unattainable.” Our Cofounder/Editor Shantashree Mohanty (top left) is an existentialist rebel and our resident expert on death. A conversation with her might take you into uncharted territory which is piquantly glum yet very insightful, offering oftstartling revelations about all and sundry. In her musings, she frequently mixes lyricism with society defying truths in a delectable soup of letters which helps throw off the veil from the world just a little, just enough for to us to peek in behind the stage. Our Cofounder/Editor Purujeet Parida (top right) is a science fiction worshipper and writer. In the tapestry of his words, Stars twinkle as their light passes through the air, Truth becomes subjective as it passes through the sieve of our minds, to become opinion. No matter how dim or bright the star, how insightful or unfounded the viewpoint, opinion, like starlight, is precious.

"Carved Voices" is thrilled to introduce its international cohort of newage artists whose voice rings with the power and the imagination that our magazine strives to take forward. Madhura has something to say about childhood and what they may not be and we at Carved Voices very emphatically agree. Stay tuned to read her full work in our first issue coming soon!

DAVID BOWIE was relevantly radical, institutionally singular, an individual of the masses and massively over defined classes. He was the prophet of Colours and Harmony. With his tragic passing earlier this year, the world lost a teacher, a leader and a genuine entertainer. Our featured artist Andrew McPherson has, all his life, drawn tremendous strength from Bowie’s exemplary life. Andrew, himself a successful music producer, multiinstrumentalist and songwriter, has been nominated twice for a Juno Award (Canada's Grammys), placed 3rd in the 2014 International Songwriting Competition with his global music project ‘Eccodek’.
