A family event for 98 years, Old Spanish Days Fiesta returns live this year with Parades, Mercados, Noches de Ronda, and La Fiesta Pequeña at the historic Old Mission Santa Barbara. Uniting this community’s largest gathering are thousands of participants and thousands of volunteers, Olé!

Leading the charge is Old Spanish Days La Presidente Maria Cabrera, who has participated in Fiesta for 37 years, contributing as a dancer, volunteer, and organization leader.

Now, as the only Presidente in recent years to have experienced Fiesta as a dancer, Cabrera invites the community to join her own family in enjoying the 2022 Fiesta theme, Todos Juntos en Familia.

Old Spanish Days LaPresidente

Born in Colombia, Cabrera moved to the San Fernando Valley when she was eleven years old.

Not speaking English, she encountered great difficulties communicating with her classmates.

When the class began square dancing, though, Cabrera found a space where she was able to participate and express herself.

“I felt accepted and it was fun, it was totally fun,” remembered Cabrera, adding she ironically did not enjoy her first dance lesson years prior.

Cabrera continued to search for community and joy through dance at Cal State Northridge, where she started dancing folklórico. While the dancing was not Colombian, she felt

Tara Mata To Personify the Spirit of Fiesta

HE EMBODIMENT OF THE BEAUTY, HISTORY, AND SOUL OF OLD SPANISH DAYS, Tara Mata will lead the community in dance this August as the 2022 Spirit of Fiesta. Being able to share her passion for flamenco with her community and family of Santa Barbara is why Fiesta has always been so special to 19-year-old Mata.

In addition to the excitement of annual fiesta celebrations, Mata came to look up to the Spirits of Fiesta and contemplate being one herself. “Representing Santa Barbara as the Spirit of Fiesta is truly a dream come true,” Mata explained. “As I grew up watching the Spirits, I was amazed by how they could dance so beautifully and always be the best role models. Their grace has inspired me to become both the best dancer and person I can be.”

“I have always loved dancing, so being able to dance all day long during Fiesta was the most amazing opportunity, and why I loved it so much as a kid,” Mata shared. “As I have gotten older, I appreciate this time of year increasingly as I see all the hard work everyone puts in to make this happen.”

Preparing for Fiesta since early October of last year with many hours in the dance studio as she prepared for the pre-auditions, Mata has dedicated her time to learning seven dances, both group and solo performances. Part of the preparation also included designing the beautiful dresses and accessories that spirits wear during the season. She worked with Daniela Zermeño-Sanchez on the design and the dresses were then created by Maria Lazcano and Alicia Haris. “New accessories, makeup, shoes, hair nets as well as many other things are all part of being ready for a great Fiesta,” Mata related, adding as she looked ahead, “While there have been many events during the pre-Fiesta time, I’m trying to get as much rest as I can!”

Sharing the Pre-Fiesta anticipation of many Spirits of Fiesta past, Mata is looking forward to La Fiesta Pequeña.

“The very special event, La Fiesta Pequeña, that officially kicks off Fiesta is what I am looking forward to the most!” she enthused. “As tradition, this Jasmine Mata, Marie Nurmi, Udy Loza II, Spirit of Fiesta Tara will be the first time I and the Jr. Mata, Renee Mata, Tom Mata, and Donna Mata Spirit of Fiesta, Layla Gocong, each perform a special solo in our white dresses. This is something I have dreamt of since I started participating in Fiesta and I feel overjoyed to be able to continue this tradition.”

“My family has lived in Santa Barbara for four generations and it makes me incredibly proud to be able to take on this historical role,” said Mata. “It is the greatest honor to know that I will be able to make such a positive impact and be able to spread joy through the community as the 2022 Spirit of Fiesta.”

After Fiesta’s festivities come to a close, Mata will attend San Francisco State University in the fall where she will work towards her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She looks forward to taking dance classes in her new home of San Francisco and the bay area, noting, “Dancing will always be part of my life no matter what, as well as Fiesta.”

Project Fiesta! Holds Community Memories,

Celebrates Old Spanish Days

The handmade cloth and papier-mâché masks used in Fiesta performances during the 1950s and 1960s are on view for the first time in this exhibit. The masks were created from the images of folk tale characters, stories, and legends.

These stories were then turned into dances by Mary Brozik and the corresponding masks shaped by Jerry Brozik.

The oversized papiermâché caricatures were worn by dancers called “las maskers,” who performed at the Old Mission and other events.

The folkloric dances and masks were a project that emerged after the Brozik’s visited Mexico and South America and recorded dances in the 1930’s. The pig, reptile, two roosters, and other masks are on loan from the John E. Profant Foundation for the Arts. These and more masks can be seen in exhibit photos from historic and modern Fiesta performances.

A large scrapbook from the first year of Old Spanish Days is just one of the 47 scrapbooks spanning 80 years that were recently transferred by Old Spanish Days to the Museum’s Gledhill Research Library. The book on view has been fully digitized and can be explored by visitors to the exhibition.

“We want to go all out for a major Fiesta exhibition for its hundredth anniversary in two years,” Harwood added. “Our collection is vast, but there are some gaps, so we are asking the public for their help. For example, we want to exhibit the colorful posters from every year that they were made, but we are missing a few.

More film and home movies from past Fiesta events would be terrific as well.” Those interested in helping complete the collection should contact the Museum’s library at archivist@sbhistorical.org.

Last year’s “Project Fiesta! A History of Old Spanish Days” gave visitors a glimpse of the Historical parade with up-close views of carriages and costumes. This year, the exhibition features decades of history through beautifully restored costumes, images, film and more.

APTIVATING FLAMENCO FLOURISHES FRAMED THE TWILIGHT SOIRÉE, LA FIESTA DEL MUSEO, at the Historical Museum on Saturday, definitely a season highlight for this year’s Fiesta.

Serenaded by Juan Zaragoza and the Mariachis Las Olas, as well as Luis Moreno on the guitar, arriving guests viewed the exhibit Project Fiesta, noshed on tacos, sipped margaritas, and tasted tequilas around the hacienda’s fountain and nearby adobes – the perfect appetizer for dinner and one of the best series of performances of flamenco this city has ever enjoyed.

Welcomed warmly by Dacia Harwood, Museum Director and the evening’s hostess, the audience settled into a night of reverie, beginning with dancers from Flamenco Santa Barbara, under the direction of Maria ‘La Chacha’ Bermudez. Followed by Layla Gocong, Fiesta’s Junior Spirit; Tara Mata, Spirit of Fiesta; Grupo de Danza Foklorico Quetzalcoatl, under the direction of Francisco Espinosa.

acclaimed (and local) Timo Nunez performed an electric Flamenco and then was joined by Maria Bermudez for an extraordinary dance improvisation. Live dance music was performed by singer Jose Cortes, Alex Jordan on guitar, and percussionist Gerardo Morales.

The evening’s live auction was highly successful with John Palminteri handling the gavel with fun and friendly banter.

The final dances of the evening were done by the attendees themselves to the tunes of the local band Elements.

City of SB Reports TOT & Sales Tax Gains

S

URPASSING ANNUAL BUDGET EXPECTATIONS

BY MORE THE $8 MILLION, the City of Santa Barbara announced it collected $3.2 million in transient occupancy taxes (TOT) for June 2022. TOT revenues in June 2022 were about $307,000 above June collections last year and surpassing pre-pandemic levels of June 2019 revenues by 40 percent. These gains were attributed to increased average daily hotel rates, which are 44 percent higher than June 2019.

The local travel industry’s steady improvement in demand for rooms has continued into the summer season as more COVID-related restrictions have been lifted.

The City has collected $31.7 million through June, the twelfth and last month in the City’s fiscal year. The City’s adopted TOT budget for all funds was set at $23.4 million, of which $19.5 million is budgeted in the General Fund.

Village Properties Celebrates $20 Billion in Sales

S IT ENTERS ITS 26TH YEAR OF BUSINESS, Village Properties is celebrating an astounding milestone: $20 billion in gross sales volume. The figure alone is enough to bring pride to the 185 agents who are currently contributing to the Santa Barbara County-based firm achieving that goal. But company leaders say an even more meaningful number is 12,900, which reflects how many transactions they’ve closed. Put another way, it’s how many times they have paired people with the perfect place or represented sellers in maximizing the value of their property.

The City’s TOT tax rate is 12 percent. Ten percent goes to the City’s General Fund and the remaining two percent goes to the Creeks/Clean Water Fund.

Second Quarter Sales Tax Results for the City of Santa Barbara The City of Santa Barbara received $6.4 million in sales tax revenue during the quarter ended March 31, 2022, which is 18 percent above the same quarter last year. This increase is largely due to improved economic activity since last year, when the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic was starting to gain steam.

Other contributing factors are the effects of inflation and continued growth in online sales. The quarter ended March 31, 2022, reflects sustained economic activity that was not significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The March quarter is the third quarter of the City’s fiscal year and the sales tax revenue budget for the fiscal year is $23.2 million.

TV Santa Barbara to Bring Media Literacy and Video Training Programs to Local Schools

OCAL STUDENTS WILL SOON BENEFIT FROM MEDIA LITERACY AND VIDEO TRAINING PROGRAMS for youth thanks to TV Santa Barbara’s recent purchase of a production vehicle. The purchase was made possible through the grant support of Montecito Bank & Trust.

“TV Santa Barbara is grateful for Montecito Bank & Trust’s grant support which allows TV Santa Barbara to get out in the community and provide kids across the County with valuable instruction and training,” said Erik Davis, Executive Director of TV Santa Barbara. “TVSB’s media literacy and video production classes provide kids across with the confidence to exercise their voice through media.”

The region’s community media access center since 1975, TV Santa Barbara works to empower individuals to make media that matters. NCE A YEAR, MAGOO’S SHOES TAKES A GROUP OF UNDERPRIVILEGED KIDS from our community and buys them a brandnew pair of shoes. These children get to choose from any shoes in the store. For many, it is their only path to new shoes.

In the early years of the program, Magoo’s Shoes was a PTO-based program offering shoes to up to 30 children at Washington Elementary School. By 2019, with important help from volunteers and partners, former Washington PTO President, Simon Dixon, expanded Magoo’s to include fourteen local Santa Barbara area schools, offering over 400 kids-in-need a brand-new pair of shoes! In addition, Magoo’s Shoes was able to provide shoes for the children at The Storyteller School, a pre-school for underprivileged children.

On Monday, July 18th, Magoo’s Shoes partner, Student Transportation Services of America delivered two hundred local children to Magoo’s long-time sponsor, Deckers, to pick out their shoes. The children were from the United Boys and Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara, whom so many families, including those of limited resources, rely on for support in raising their children to reach their full potential.

This incredible event only came together as the result of great partnerships, sponsors, and helpers such as Deckers, who have been instrumental in their support by way of helping to expand Magoo’s reach, as well as Student Transportation of America who have provided Magoo’s with transportation. SB County Education Office Receives Grant to Help Fill Demand for Qualified Childcare and Preschool Teachers

N SUPPORT OF STRENGTHENING THE EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION WORKFORCE, the Santa Barbara County Education Office has been awarded a $500,000 grant through the California Apprenticeship Initiative from the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. The grant will help individuals who are currently, or interested in, working at infant/toddler and preschool sites complete coursework that will advance their education careers.

“The pandemic has shown the importance of high-quality, accessible childcare for children and families in Santa Barbara County,” said Bridget Baublits, Assistant Superintendent of SBCEO’s Educational Services. “Due to a shortage of early childhood educators, our community is challenged to build an experienced, stable, and diverse workforce to provide valuable education and care. This grant is all about giving individuals the chance to launch and advance their careers in this critical and rewarding field. We are providing an innovative solution to the ongoing shortage of early education teachers.”

The grant will support childcare assistants in becoming associate teachers; associate teachers in becoming teachers; and teachers in becoming site supervisors. Funds can be applied toward tuition, fees, and costs with earning additional units so individuals can continue working while completing schooling.

Grant funds were bolstered by an additional $100,000 from the Santa Barbara Foundation. A total of 25 apprentices will be recipients over five years. Consultant Hired To Assist In Forming State Street Master Plan About MIG Inc.

DVANCING THE PLANNING PROCESS FOR DOWNTOWN SANTA BARBARA, the Santa Barbara City Council hired a consultant to work with the State Street Advisory Committee and City staff, at their Tuesday meeting.

The consulting firm MIG Inc. was hired for $780,000 with a unanimous vote of the council.

“Staff did a masterful and thorough job in vetting what you have today in the way of a contract,” commented Dave Davis, chair of the State Street Advisory Committee and former Community Development Director for Santa Barbara.

“In my opinion, MIG is one of the best in the country, if not the best!” he continued. Davis, not acting in his role at SSAC chair, served as the City’s public representative on the consultant selection committee.

State Street Master Planner, Tess Harris, gave the council an overview of work done by the SSAC and outlined the process of moving the planning process forward. “This will be a visioning document and a conceptual design that leverages the successes of the last two years,” stated Harris.

MIG Inc. is no stranger to Santa Barbara, having previously worked on community engagement for the Santa Barbara General Plan in the 1980s and during its 2011 update. The firm has also worked on the Upper State Street Corridor Study, developing downtown Santa Barbara housing design guidelines, and helped design Chase Palm Park, focusing on children’s play spaces.

Addressing the council concerning the SSAC was Vice Chair Ken Saxon. He shared, “We are about to pick up steam quickly and we invite all of Santa Barbara to join in this effort… we are looking to engage the broad diversity of the community.”

of six City Staff reviewed all eight submitted proposals, with represented departments including Community Development, Parks & Recreation, Public Works, and the Waterfront. The top five proposals were reviewed by the State Street Advisory Committee subcommittee, made up of SSAC members Vice Chair Ken Saxon, Dianne Black, Hillary Blackerby, and Susanne Tejada. Following this, City Staff brought in the top three firms for interviews, which were conducted by the Community Development Director, Parks & Rec Director, Public Works Director, Tess Harris, and Dave Davis.

“They really have the most in depth of understanding of the issues that the Master Plan will address out of the variety of teams that provided proposals,” stated Harris, in a phone interview with VOICE Magazine.

“We felt that they have the strongest team composition, they’ve got a lot of technical expertise, local knowledge, and public engagement experience, and really a passion for place making in downtown street scape projects, and have prior work experience in many locations throughout California, including prior work experience in Santa Barbara. And they were consistently ranked high throughout the consultant selection process at the staff level and with the State Street Advisory Committee subcommittee... So we feel like we’ve got the best team working with us.

I’m looking forward to working with them.”

The next State Street Advisory Committee meeting will take place on August 15th, with the MIG Inc. consultant team meeting with the SSAC as well as with City staff. There will be a public engagement kick-off for the project in October, which is anticipated to include a public meeting, community outreach event or workshop, and a pop-up event in the downtown area.

According to Harris, the city’s next main focus is working on the community engagement plan. The city hopes to complete the State Street Master Plan between December 2023 and Februrary 2024. The MIG Inc. project manager the city will be working with comes from the firm’s Berkeley office.

The 2018 Syrah was foot stomped and is full of blueberries, black plum, black olives, mint, and tobacco. It is once again, a wonderful expression of all the grape can be when handled in the Old World manner.

If you are very lucky when you are at the winery, you might grab a bottle of the 2020 carbonically pressed Syrah. Handled in the manner of Beaujolais, Brady throws a fascinating curve ball at a traditional grape and a traditional winemaking method. It adds a range of flavors that you don’t often find in Syrah. Yet, the style of winemaking brings the natural flavors from the grape. Give it a try if they offer it.

Samsara is so convenient, and so comfortable, and so easy to get to. It may be in the middle of Goleta, but the wines aren’t middle of the road.

Working alongside Academy fellows, Montgomery will fill Hahn Hall with the soaring sounds of her celebrated string pieces, as well as works by composers Paul Wiancko and inti figgis-vizueta.

Growing up in Manhattan’s Lower East Side in the 1980s, Montgomery benefited from her parents and the community showing her that living as an artist was possible. Currently, she is a Graduate Fellow in Music Composition at Princeton University. Her works, which span chamber, orchestral, solo, and vocal, have been performed and commissioned by award-winning orchestras such as the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and the LA Philharmonic.

In preparation for working with Academy string fellows, Montgomery curated a program of five of her original compositions for string instruments. Fellows will deliver solo and ensemble performances, with Montgomery accompanying on the violin. Montgomery will also play Rhapsody No. 1, the first piece she wrote for herself.

The evening will conclude with American Haiku by Paul Wiancko and Placing Ceremony by inti figgis-vizueta. This not only provides Montgomery the opportunity to engage with her colleagues’ works through a teacher’s lens, but allows students to engage with living composers.

So far, Montgomery, joined by figgis-vizueta, has virtually met with Academy fellows. Now, she is all the more excited to provide an experience she did not have at their age: the chance to perform an entire concert of contemporary music.

ELIVERING AN ELECTRIC, AVANTGARDE, AND INTENSELY VULNERABLE PERFORMANCE, composer Molly Joyce wowed Music Academy guests as she filled Hahn Hall with electronic music and atmospheric vocals on July 20th.

From the night’s opening on Music Academy string fellows’ performing the world premiere of Joyce’s new work, Imperfection, to Joyce’s solo performances, the evening proved an insightful examination of the role disability can play as a source of creative inspiration.

Prior to the concert, attendees were treated to the Music Academy’s only pop-up concert of the summer, performed by percussion fellows Arthur Dhuique-Mayer, Mary La Blanc, David Riccobono, Charles Renneker, and Matthew A. West.

Led by London Symphony Orchestra percussion Teaching Artist, Neil Percy, and joined by collaborative pianist Yu-Ting Peng, the fellows played marimbas and cajon with skill, displaying fine understanding of their instruments’ capabilities.

Inside Hahn Hall, anticipation mounted as guests discussed Joyce’s work. An adjunct faculty member in composition at New York University, Joyce’s left hand is impaired from a car accident. As she shared with attendees later in the evening, she initially wanted to hide her disability. Now, she uses her music to explore disability as a creative source.

The evening’s first piece, the world premiere of Imperfection, reflected this sentiment by considering and showcasing the “perfections” and “imperfections” of string instruments. Violin fellows Kenneth Naito and Clara Schubilske, viola fellow Marcus Stevenson, and cello fellow Colin Hill executed the piece with precision, collaborating onstage to create a constantly altering soundscape.

True to the work’s name, the fellows encompassed all aspects of string instruments, creating almost discordant sounds and playing pizzicato before swelling into harmonious music.

Joyce took the stage for a solo performance of eight songs, singing while playing an electric vintage toy organ — which, according to her website, is her primary instrument as it “suits her body and engages her disability on a compositional and performative level.” Using a special glove linked to a computer to provide additional electronic sounds, Joyce’s music heightened her voice’s ethereal nature, transporting listeners between human and technological realms.

Throughout each song, Joyce’s lyrics were intriguing, as she sang at times to herself, her hand, and the audience, ever centering on the idea of challenging and examining her experiences, perspective, and the concept of weakness.

Combined with projected music videos showing her moving hands, and a computerized voice reading aloud sound descriptions to promote accessibility and artistry, Joyce crafted an immersive, multimedia listening experience amplifying a subject often overlooked in the www.musicacademy.org field of contemporary music.

And who knows when this might happen? The whole world wants it to happen, so maybe enough pressure will be applied to end the Ukraine conflict and encourage the Chinese to fix their COVID problem so that the world can return to what is the real problem, global warming that has far worse consequences than a temporary and artificially induced recession.

Old Spanish Days to Make a Full Comeback with New Parade Routes

WEDNESDAY, JULY 20TH - Old Spanish Days is set with new parade routes and all the famous events for Fiesta 2022. Thousands are expected in Santa Barbara for the comeback after cutbacks during two COVID years.

The Historical Parade will be held along Cabrillo Boulevard, from Castillo Street to Calle Puerto Vallarta, at noon on Friday, August 5th.

The Children’s Parade, on Saturday, August Cabrillo Boulevard will make up Fiesta’s parade routes this year 6th, will also be held on Cabrillo Blvd. This new parade location will lead to a boost in business for waterfront and Funk Zone restaurants and shops.

“I was part of the parade since I was a kid, so having a business right center of it will be very cool,” said Alison Hardey, with Jeannine’s Restaurant and Bakery. “We are going to decorate the front of Jeannine’s with a bunch of flowers and all of our staff will be in their Fiesta wear.”

EADERS HAVE LONG YEARNED TO ESCAPE INTO THE PAGES OF THEIR FAVORITE BOOKS — but what if characters in books could enter our world? Using this intriguing premise, Inkheart by Cornelia Funke transports readers on a gripping journey full of magic, books, and bravery. Originally published in German and translated to English in 2003, Inkheart is the first book in a trilogy of chapter books best suited for fourth-grade-aged students and up. Local students may be familiar with the book for its ranking on prior years’ “Battle of the Books’’ reading lists, published by the Santa Barbara County Education Office.

The story follows Meggie, a twelveyear-old girl living with her father, Mo, a bookbinder. One rainy night, a mysterious fire-eater named Dustfinger appears to warn Mo that he is in danger from an evil man named Capricorn. It is revealed that Mo possesses the power to read characters out of books’ pages, and accidentally brought both Dustfinger and Capricorn out of a book titled Inkheart many years ago. Now, Capricorn and his men want Mo to use his powers to not only summon additional villains from Inkheart, but riches from other novels. A fast-paced adventure ensues, as Meggie tries to save her father and friends by harnessing the full power of words.

Artfully merging references from classic literature with original ideas, Funke weaves a magical story to enchant young and adult bookworms alike. Each character is as vibrant as they are complex, allowing the text to explore mature concepts such as redemption and courage in the face of extreme evils. This allows for a fantasy tale that remains grounded in reality, emphasizing the vital role reading plays in understanding our world and in preparing for our own adventures.

ST THURSDAY is an evening of art and culture in downtown Santa Barbara that takes place on the first Thursday of each month. Participating art venues offer free access to art in a fun and social environment from 5-8pm. 1st Thursday venues also provide additional attractions, such as live music, artist receptions, lectures, wine tastings, and hands-on activities. State Street also comes alive on 1st Thursday with performances and interactive activities.

SBIFF’s SANTA BARBARA FILMMAKER SERIES • SBIFF Education Center, 1330 State Street • Featuring five short films that were made last month by 30 teenagers during SBIFF’s Film Camp. The camp was in partnership with the United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County.

Campers will be at the screening to present their films.

Showtimes every 30 minutes starting at 5:30 pm, last film at 7pm. Runtime: 18 minutes.

“Though it looks indestructible, in truth, the magnificent Santa Barbara Courthouse is deteriorating from age, environment, and public use,” explains SBCLF’s auction website. “The County of Santa Barbara is responsible for the general maintenance of the Courthouse but does not have the artistic resources or funds to authentically restore this magnificent structure.”

Restoring the Great Arch

Santa Barbara Courthouse Legacy Foundation The Santa Barbara Courthouse is one of the most distinctive courthouses in America and its Great Arch is in need of restoration. Completed in 1929, in the Spanish Colonial Revival style, the building is a functioning courthouse, an iconic symbol of the Spanish heritage of Santa Barbara, a focal point for community festivals, concerts, weddings, and public events, and a landmark attraction for nationwide and international tourism.

Because of this need, the Courthouse Legacy Foundation is now seeking financial support for an ongoing project to restore the Great Arch entrance into the Courthouse and its Sunken Gardens. Doorways under the Arch lead to the Courthouse lobby, active courtrooms, County offices, the famed Mural Room, and the Clock Tower.

The Great Arch and Clock Tower are the most photographed features of the building.

Over the years, the Great Arch has suffered weathering and

deterioration. A Comprehensive Conditions assessment of the Courthouse identified a number of restoration requirements for the Arch. Cracks and erosion in the sandstone masonry and cast-stone carvings and sculptures, have led to water infiltration and damage to stone and cast-stone features on the Arch. A previous attempt, at an unknown time in the past, to protect the stone and castings with a clear coating, has actually resulted in discoloration and further erosion of these features.

There is also a potential danger that some pieces may fall onto public spaces.

The ultimate goal of this project is to completely restore the Arch to its distinctive appearance as the signature entrance to a designated National Historic Landmark building and an iconic symbol of the Spanish heritage and identity of the city of Santa Barbara.

In 2020 EverGreene Architectural Arts, Inc. performed the

sophisticated work of removing the degraded stone coating that was causing deterioration of the Great Arch. They conducted a multi-step analysis for best methods of treatment and followed Federal standards for preserving a National Historic Landmark. Their Phase I cleaning activity was completed on time and on budget for $175,000.

The CLF is now focused on raising funds to begin Phase II of the conservation effort, which will address damage to the sandstone blocks, failed mortar joints, and loss of ornamental stone features on the Great Arch.

Legacy Foundation In 2004, a small group of committed citizens came together and formed the Santa Barbara Courthouse Legacy Foundation (CLF), dedicated to the conservation and restoration of this magnificent building for generations to come. The CLF ensures all conservation, restoration, and restoration projects meet federally mandated standards for a National Historic Landmark.
