Venni in contatto con Fausto Romitelli nei primi anni Ottanta, quando era ancora allievo di composizione al Conservatorio di Milano nella classe di Umberto Rotondi. Nonostante l’età davvero giovanissima, c’erano già tutti i segnali di una personalità forte e fuori dagli schemi. In particolare, accanto all’interesse vivissimo per la sperimentazione strumentale, mi colpì la sua irresistibile esigenza di esplorare percorsi “spuri”, estranei se non in contraddizione rispetto ai canoni derivanti dai linguaggi e dall’estetica strutturalista. Fu quindi molto naturale che decidesse di scrivere un pezzo per me, Dia nykta, composto sulla traccia di un verso di un antico poeta greco, che presentai in prima esecuzione il 18 dicembre 1983 a Milano nel quadro della stagione “Musica rara” del teatro La commenda.

I met Fausto Romitelli in the early Eighties, while he was still studying composition with Umberto Rotondi at the Conservatory in Milano. Though he was very young, he already showed the signs of a strong and unconventional personality. In a more specific way, besides a very strong bias towards instrumental experimentation, I was impressed by his irresistible urge to explore routes that are unrelated or even contradictory with reference to the rules resulting from the styles and aesthetics of structuralism. So, it seemed to me very natural that he should write music for me: Dia nykta was composed in the wake of a verse written by an ancient Greek poet. The world première occurred in Milano on the 18th of December 1983, as part of the concert season of “Musica rara” at the theatre La Commenda. Anna Maria Morini
