Missing corner reconstruction
19th Century Family Bible after a teething puppy found it.
In every other respect, the volume was in remarkably good condition.
After trimming away all loose material, and peeling back the surrounding leather, two slender steel pins were inserted into the exposed edge of the board to establish a foundation for a new corner. Then a mixture of adhesive and ground particles of binding board was gradually built up around the pins to form a new corner.
After the area was thoroughly dry, a thin binding cloth was used to cover the area; and the surrounding leather restored.
