THRIVE 2012 Overview
1
THRIVE 2012 is made up of three components: Day Camp, Enrichment Classes and Leadership. Students may attend any one or a combination of the three.
Day Camp combines the fun, friendships and adventure of camp with the excitement of intellectual discovery focusing on personal/social, spiritual, and leadership development at all grade levels. Camp Benefits • • • •
New, exciting themes each week Field trips each week (max. 8) Enrichment Classes (optional) Swimming (optional)
• • • •
Snacks and lunch provided Open 6 am (6:30 @ Puy.) to 6 pm Acres on which to play Playground trips
Enrichment Classes can be taken either as an enhancement to THRIVE Day Camp or on their own for students not attending Day Camp. These exciting classes offer students the opportunity to learn new skills, develop their talents, receive academic support, or just experience something new for fun. With so many classes to choose from, your child’s summer will truly be an enriching experience! Enrichment Class Benefits • Reduce summer learning loss • Hands-on learning
• Sharpen skills and gain confidence • Try something new
Leadership for all Junior High campers includes exciting day camp activities and field trips plus participation in leadership training activities that concentrate on positive reinforcement, mentoring, responsibility and trust. They also have the option to add the Tuesday Wild Waves trip (see details under “Add-ons”). Junior Counselors: THRIVE Leadership offers a valuable opportunity for students to participate in a leadership training practicum. Registered Puyallup campus campers who are entering at least 7th grade in the fall may apply for a limited number of positions as Junior Counselors.
The Junior Counselor Program: The Junior Counselor program was designed to foster leadership in students seventh grade and older. Junior Counselors will participate in all THRIVE Leadership activities in a leadership capacity, receive a 40% discount on their weekly summer camp tuition, and attend a special Junior Counselor party.
2 Junior Counselors assist staff by organizing and participating in games, activities, arts and crafts, and field trips with the campers. They serve as Christian examples by demonstrating the 3R’s (respect, responsibility and positive relationships) towards campers, other JCs, and staff.
To become a Junior Counselor: First, register for camp. Then, apply to be a Junior Counselor by emailing two letters of recommendation: one from a teacher and another from a pastor or youth pastor, to Kathi Renn, (Puyallup Site Coordinator) at rennk@cascadechristian.org. Registration for leadership does not automatically guarantee JC acceptance. Selection of Junior Counselors is based on availability, letters of recommendation, and personal interview during the first week of camp.
Thrive Camp Dates THRIVE 2012 is a ten-week program (nine at Puyallup) that begins on Monday, June 18, and ends on Tuesday, August 24 (August 17 at Puyallup). Enrichment Classes are available June 25 through August 24. All camps will be closed on July 4 in observance of Independence Day and August 27-31 for Teacher In-service.
Day and Enrichment Camp Times Day Camp hours are 6 AM (6:30 AM at Puyallup) to 6 PM with camp activities taking place from 8:30 to 3:00. Enrichment Class times meet 9 to 11 AM or 1 to 3 PM (except where noted), with extended care available.
Camp Ages THRIVE 2012 is open to all children entering 1st through 6th grades (8th grade at Puyallup) in the fall of 2012. Our Early Learning Centers also offer summer enrichment classes for children ages 3-5. See inside front cover.
Supervision and Grouping of Students All programs and field trips are supervised by responsible and nurturing staff members. Students remain with their counselor throughout the day, ensuring that students feel safe and “at home” while enjoying everything THRIVE Day Camp has to offer. Students are grouped according to their grade level for the 2012-2013 school year.
