Performance Management: Goal Setting for Employee Engagement
Managing and Tracking Family Leave and Absenteeism Free to those enrolled in HR Leadership Many organizations struggle with the bottlenecks and frustrations that occur with employee absences. Through use of real case studies and sample tools, this program provides practical information to help manage family leave and other absences.

About the Presenters Patrice Altenhofen, President Cascade Employers Association Patrice was appointed President in the fall of 2006 and carries forward Cascade’s reputation for providing collaborative, responsive, and solution-oriented services. Prior to becoming President, Patrice served as General Counsel and Director of Human Resource Development Services. As a creative and approachable human resource professional and attorney, Patrice is credited with developing innovative training programs on a variety of employment-related issues for executives, managers, and supervisors, including the Association’s comprehensive HR Leadership Pogram. She routinely participates in the development of long-term human resource and compliance strategies with top-level management of organizations from diverse industries. Jerry E. Bumgarner, CCP, Director of Research and Compensation Services Cascade Employers Association Jerry has devoted more than 40 years to the field of human resources, specializing in the compensation area. He provides specialized compensation support to employers (e.g., market pay ranges, competitive pay assessments, incentive plans, performance management), and helps Cascade members to align pay with business results. In addition, Jerry conducts compensation surveys for numerous industry groups and serves as a participant and chairperson on user steering committees. A regular presenter for workshops on the above topics, Jerry also serves with various local, regional and national professional HR groups. Glen Fahs, Ph.D., Director of Training and Organization Development Cascade Employers Association Glen is one of Oregon’s most active management trainers and consultants. He is a change agent who uses training and involvement processes as ways to build skills, commitment and team work. He teaches classes on leadership and professional transitions regularly for Portland State University and has served on the local boards of United Way, Habitat for Humanity, The Oregon Ethics Commons (as President), and The American Society for Training and Development (as Oregon Chapter President). He presents workshops on performance management, leadership and communication skills, and is certified in AchieveGlobal’s highly successful Learning to Lead program. Glen is particularly skilled at customizing on-site programs for employers. Curtis Farmer, Retirement Program Manager Cascade Employers Association Curtis joined Cascade in March of 2008. His principal responsibilities include management and administration of the retirement plans offered to Cascade Members through the Pacific Northwest Employers Pension Trust and the Pacific Northwest Employers Profit Sharing and 401(k) Savings Plan. Prior to joining Cascade, Curtis spent nearly 12 years in the Financial Services industry specializing in Retirement Plans, and currently consults with our members on such issues as plan design, ERISA regulations, and effective employee enrollment and education.

Sue Fischer, MSM, SPHR, Human Resource & Compensation Consultant Cascade Employers Association Sue joined Cascade’s Research & Compensation Services team in 2006 as Compensation Services Manager. Prior to coming to Cascade she served as Vice President of Human Resources and Training for Pacific NW Federal Credit Union and as Human Resource Generalist for Cenveo Graphic Arts Center. She also brings her extensive experience and knowledge of manufacturing and financial environments. In addition to Sue’s HR practitioner roles, she currently teaches Strategic Human Resource Management in the MBA program for Concordia University and has taught various courses in the Business and Management programs for both Marylhurst University and Linfield College. Sue has a BA in Foreign Languages (French) from Portland State University and an MS in Management from Marylhurst University. She also holds a Senior Professional in Human Resource Management (SPHR) designation from the Human Resource Certification Institute. Kathleen Hoeg, MBA, Consultant Kathleen is a graduate of Columbia University with a Master of Business Administration degree. She has over 20 years of experience as an organization development specialist in the energy and banking industries. Her background includes: leadership of company-wide performance initiatives; design and presentation of numerous training programs on management and teamwork skills; development of leadership programs for executives; and creation of a wide variety of technical skills courses for field operations personnel. Kathleen has taught college classes in management theory and organizational behavior. She is a certified trainer for AchieveGlobal, Interaction Associates, and Blessing-White and is also a lead facilitator for the City of Eugene’s outdoor challenge course. Gayle Klampe, Director of Member Relations Cascade Employers Association Over 30 years at Cascade, Gayle has been involved in a variety of Association capacities. With her experience and knowledge of Association services, and her ability to communicate the value of membership, she serves as Director of Member Relations. In this role, Gayle oversees all membership activities. She instinctively assesses the needs of employers, linking them to the resources that help advance workplace success. Gayle also manages coordination and development of Association marketing and communication activities, and has a contagious sense of humor. Don McCloskey, Clinical Manager Bio-Med Testing Services Inc. Don brings nine plus years of outstanding service and experience in the field of Drug Testing Operations. His contributions to Bio-Med Testing include his extensive experience in Occupational Drug Testing Operations and Procedures as well as his excellent relations in working with Medical Review Officers and their client base. Additionally Don consults and educates their client base and industry colleagues of current and new Federal Regulations, State Laws governing Drug Testing, Reasonable Suspicion and Employee training, Drug screen collection and Breath alcohol training. About the Presenters (continued) Jenna Reed, JD, MBA, Director of Human Resource Development Services Cascade Employers Association Jenna joined Cascade’s Human Resource Development Team in 2004 as Human Resource Compliance Specialist, becoming Director of HR Development Services in fall of 2006. She works in a variety of areas with Cascade, including employment law compliance, employee handbook development, training, affirmative action, human resource program assessments, and on-site support. Jenna integrates compliance, best practices, and practical management solutions to help Member organizations achieve positive results in workforce management. Jenna is a member of the Oregon State Bar, and received her Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from Willamette University where she emphasized her studies in labor and employment law, human resources, and organizational development. She is also a Board member for the NW EEO/ Affirmative Action Association and a member of SHRM. Michelle Toney, Human Resource Consultant Cascade Employers Association Michelle joined Cascade as Human Resource Consultant in February 2009. As a consultant for Cascade, Michelle provides practical solutions to HR issues in areas including human resource program assessments, handbook development, job description development, and payroll inquiries. Michelle’s experience includes roles as a Bookkeeper, Controller, and Human Resource Manager. In 2005, Michelle earned her certificate in HR leadership through Cascade’s Human Resource Leadership Certificate Program, and is currently working towards her transfer degree in Business at Linn-Benton Community College. Most managers evaluate training based on enrollment, reaction sheets, behavior change, and praise from participants and their managers. While such indicators are important, there are more significant measures of results. Training doesn’t get results in isolation. Management gets results – using training as a resource. But just as a healthy budget, information system or strategic plan can be monitored for effectiveness, there are some indicators of training’s success beyond whether people liked it.
