There may be no task more challenging, no activity more daunting than to find oneself completely disconnected from familiar places, people, and known behavioral patterns. As a businessperson, you probably look for opportunities and apply diligent problem solving, but what if the new employee’s fear stage comes purely from the cultural background a person brings to the table? What do you do? This seminar explores the multiple stages an employee faces upon being hired and during the rest of their employment with your organization. Most importantly, it will help you as managers and supervisors understand what to do during each stage to overcome its pitfalls. Understanding these stages and knowing what practical measures to adopt can have a significant positive impact on your organization’s bottom line.

Management and Supervisory Development (cont.) Leadperson Effectiveness
Team Leadership
The job of leadperson is tough. It demands you strike a difficult balance between being a worker and being a supervisor. Getting the job done when you (and everybody else) know that you have little authority requires some complex skills.
Teams are critical to productivity. Many teams get stuck in one of the five predictable stages of team development. The research in Fortune 500 companies shows, for example, that only 29% of teams reach the (high) performing stage.
■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■
Do you work with a team that is stuck in the forming or storming stage? Are you familiar with Bruce Tuckman’s model of team development? Do you know what a team leader can do to minimize getting stuck? And how to get a team “unstuck?”
Making the switch from co-worker to leadperson Clarifying your role Understanding other people and motivation Dealing with negativity in yourself and others Team-building skills Communication Leadership skills (when you have limited authority) Goal-setting Keeping track and giving recognition Coaching and training for better performance
We will look at the stages of team development with the leader’s role for each, as well as the five dysfunctions of a team, along with the appropriate strategies for the leader. The workshop will include: ■ A DVD with Patrick Lencioni discussing The Five Dysfunctions of a Team ■ An inspirational DVD on leadership ■ Activities to apply some of the tools provided ■ A safe learning environment
