In the book “The 48 Laws of Power” by Robert Greene, the author advises seekers of power to “look in both directions at once,” like the Roman god Janus. Depicted with two faces, one looking to the past, the other looking to the future, the image of Janus is a symbol of calculating awareness and holding the right position. He was the first contact if one wanted access to the gods, the heavens, marriage or prosperity. Why? Janus was the keeper of doors and gateways. He was present at every beginning (which is one of the reasons the month of January bears his name) and was there as time passed and the future arrived.
