A demigod is the mortal offspring of a god and a human. In Greek mythology one demigod forged an unforgettable legacy in the hearts of men. He is the subject of one of the earliest works of Western literature, Homer’s epic poem “The Illiad” but his story persists into modern times. Hollywood cast Brad Pitt to play this heroic yet tragic character in the film “Troy.” The term “Achilles’ heel” is part of our language for a reason. The story of Achilles defines what it means to be human, full of strength, vigor and determination, yet flawed and destined to whither. But does mortality have to be bad? Achilles proves it may just be the thing we use to achieve immortality.
