LocatedontheNationalMall,thismemorialis aresponsetotheGunEpidemictheUShas fostered.Thismemorialstandsapartby sharingtheexperiencesoftheforgotten survivorsofmassshootings,while simultaneouslydemandingactionfromthe policymakerswhohavethusfarignoredthem.
ConstructedoutofHescoBarriers,the memorialtakesshapeasasacredcorethat displaysthestoriesofthecomparatively fortunatesurvivors.Protectingthecoreisa perimeterthatexpandoutward,increasingthe thicknessofthiscore’swallswitheach successivemassshootingintheUS, threateningtoconsumethecity.Nestedinthis everexpandingshellarevoids,servingas spacesforthepublictogather,discuss, pontificate,mourn,remember,honor,and celebrate.

Theprojectitselfwasamuseumdesigned aroundaselectedtopic,inthiscaseToxic Landscapes.Althoughgivenanexistingform, ourgrouparguedtodesignamuseum detachedfromagivenformorsitesoasto facilitateatravelingpop-upmuseum educatingandwarningusersofthedangersof nuclearwasteandtesting.

Inresearchingthecitywefoundthatthe largestdemographic,kidsandteens,were underrepresentedintheurbanfabric.To rectifythis,wecenteredourdesignaround play.
