Au 79 Charlotte Gold Mine Museum and Speculative Office Tower in collaboration with Mackenzie Helm

Charlotte, NC Located on the historic Rudisill Gold Mine in Charlotte, the museum and speculative o ce tower celebrates the city’s history by creating an interactive experience that teaches of Charlotte’s past, connects the present, and glances towards the future innovations to come. From a 130’ geological void excavated from the site, museum patrons traverse from the underground museum on a funicular cart system that wraps the exterior of the building. Users complete the museum experience at the top of the tower, absorbing expansive views of Charlotte. 01

RECYCLE + BURIAL Bremerton Islands in collaboration with Mackenzie Helm

Puget Sound Navy Shipyard, Bremerton, WA This is an investigation of the postindustrial landscape of naval shipyards in the United States. While mostly inactive, of the four remaining active shipyards, the Puget Sound Navy Shipyard operates the decommissioning of nuclear powered submarines. This project investigates the relationship between water and ground, while reimagining boundaries in a restricted area. Ecologically productive lands begin to form from the recycled ground of the existing waters that have been exposed to nuclear material. These new grounds begin to examine the possibilities of unpredicted growth by ora, fauna and human intervention. 17

BUNDESSTRASSE14 B14 Underpass Park Stuttgart, Germany Dominating the automotive industry, Stuttgart, Germany is home to Daimler AG, the owner corporation of Mercedes Benz. The B14 highway exchange is located directly between the public and private sectors of the site, dividing industry and tourism built around Daimler. Like most underpasses, the space beneath the bridge is highly underutilized and lacking environmental diversity. As an investigation of infrastructural vacancy, the park becomes a prototype for how these spaces can become activated. Privileging environmental and ecological growth, the new park utilizes a series of bridges and play spaces supported by the existing structure to create connections between contrasting programs on site, bringing together locals and tourists alike. 26

FIBER FACADE NEW INC. Building Kinetic Facade New York, NY This facade is designed to be retrofitted onto an existing building occupied by NEW INC., a cultural incubator for creative innovation led by the adjacent New Museum in New York City. The facade is made of fiber optic cables that harness piezoelectricity. As the fibers move internally by users and externally by wind, energy is harvested while creating a playful streetscape and workspace. 36
