I have often imagined myself as a scavenger wandering on the streets ever since early childhood. To me, searching for valuable “debris” discarded by others has a lot of fun. When night falls, every supermarket throws away piles of food, and trash cans near delivery stations are packed with recyclable packaging boxes. These awakening calls often come to my mind at night. Perhaps, all scavengers would agree that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, which aroused my interest in urban spaces.
To me, my passion for “scavenging” reshaped the meaning of landscape studies. The way I see it, knowledge and skills are my “scavenging tools”, while design assignments allow me to practice my “scavenging” skills.

Our place is located between Novena and Toa Payoh, near MacRitchie Reservoir, which could have been a wonderful public space with natural scenery. However, with a wide vehicle road in the middle, the green and blue system is abruptly halted in front of our place, making it difficult for people to access. To revamp this "isolated desert" into a "vibrant oasis," we propose three strategies:
-First, create a blue and green connection from MacRitchie Reservoir along the middle road on the site, building a linear oasis;
-Second, optimize the road system by cutting unnecessary roads and introducing new ones to improve access;
-Third, connect Toa Payoh with our site through highly accessible pedestrian pathways and a newly built Toa Payoh town

The parcel of land is in the mid of the North South Ecotone in Singapore. As an old and outdated industrial area established since 1970’s, car repairment stores and light industry occupied most of the land area which barely leaves room for green spaces and reasonable pedestrian. Therefore, the parcel is rather isolated and not neighborhood-friendly , which not only cutting off the green connection of bishan park but also lowering the neighborhood accessibility. However, the monastery, Buddhist temple in the parcel and the nearby bishan park attaching the peculiar character in the context which allows it to be a cultural district and a nature expander
Our vision Revolving around 4 main concepts of introducing the mixed use characteristics , expanding the public space, interwining the nature within expanding the system from the Bishan park to further beyond, and also being energy self sufficient by maximizing solar panels in the site.
